I'm not into soccer (or hockey, for that matter) but with very little else on, sport-wise, I've watched more soccer the last couple weeks than the last couple years combined. I also opted out of NASCAR when they switched to stage racing but I've also been enjoying that the last few weeks as well. I've found myself missing MiLB more than MLB, which surprised me. I had come to take the Birmingham Barons for granted but IF things ever return to normal I'll never take them for granted again

I have a few coworkers that always laughed at me for watching soccer but they have slowly grown to enjoy it these past 2 months because nothing else is on. I'm interested to see if they keep following once MLB, NFL or NBA starts.

I know it's fun to pick on the Mets but let's also not forget that the Braves are annually on the hook to Bruce Sutter for $1.12 million until he is 69.

Also, even though it's a different sport, I think Charlie Weis is still being paid by both Notre Dame and Kansas.

I was actually not aware of that.

I mean, while both are egregious the Bonilla one really just takes the cake because they didn't want to pay $5.9m to finish out his contract, for better or worse, Sutter's money was written in to his contract.

Speaking of Bruce Sutter, how did he win a Cy Young, get MVP votes, and wind up in the hall of fame?

Am I missing something, because his stats to me just look like a closer who has several good seasons.

He was basically the original closer.

Well, at least you can have peace of mind knowing a pitcher with Bruce Sutter's resume wouldn't get into the HOF in today's day and age.

That's another one of those things where people can't complain about the game changing too much because it's always been changing.

Even something as simple as the way we look at stats.

A closer with a 2.22ERA and 37 saves gets a CY Young over a starter who had a 2.71ERA and struck out over 300 batters?

In the AL that same year you had Jim Kern with a 1.57ERA and 29 saves. He didnt even get a single 1st place vote. So voters definitely were weird with criteria

There's obviously countless other cases of this in all different races over the years.
