Not to mention Ortiz is a two-tool DH, something that used to be the biggest no-no when it came to Cooperstown qualifications.

I think if Bonds got that ring in 2002 (not his fault) and had a complete 2005 season for a 3,000-hit
and 2,000 RBI career, you literally couldn't say no after ten years of voting. And yes, if he was a good guy that apparently also would've gone a long way, but damn it if that should be a reason to exclude somebody.

Personally, I still think the man can play even at 58 years old. That's much more outlandish than HOF consideration, but I'd give anything to see him step up to the plate again. I always dreamed about a return. (I don't want this to be the focus of my post lol)

I'd love to see that too. Though I'd love to see Manny Ramirez come back instead.

Jays unveil plans for their renovated stadium.

Bad news is that they aren't touching the roof or the field.

Good news is that the changes all look real nice. Raised bullpens, eliminating 500 level OF in favour of patios, 100 level OF seats will now be right up against the field, and the 100 level infield seats will now be angled to face home plate (it never has before because the stadium was build for multi purposes, so the seats used to just face straight ahead).

Interestingly, no field dimensions on the walls. Could they be changing it? The wall right now I believe is even from foul pole to foul pole in terms of height. Now the wall looks to be higher in some spots, and straight away to CF now looks much lower (chances for over the wall catches, or more ground rule doubles).

Fans were hoping that they just dig out the concrete underneath and have grass while also making the roof transparent so sunlight gets in the building. They've done a study, but I guess it's not possible. Or maybe it is but it costs more than they'd want to spend.

If they do build a new ballpark, even if it's in the exact same spot, they do need to figure out the grass situation for sure.

Have to say, I have really enjoyed The Captain.

Lifelong West-coaster, absolutely resent the eastcoast bias, especially in baseball. I have to say, I really didn't have a high opinion of Jeter.

Loved the last episode, with the A-Rod fallout front and center.

Almost surreal listening to the two explain their side. A-Rod sucked the air out of the room, Jeter just spoke like a professional.

.. just takes me back. Crazy that the Ms had 2 generational talents that could have been THE best ever, and it just wasn't meant to be. Junior relied solely on his absurd physical ability, never worked at it. A-Rod became consumed by his massive ego. If they had half the work ethic, determination or professionalism of Jeter.. my lord.

Look forward to the rest of the series.

He didn't take care of his body the way other greats did.

The Mariners were definitely stacked at that point. The A’s too, btw. I remember the Chavez comments, vividly. Next episode will certainly cover the 3-0 meltdown.

I think most-Non Yankees fans would tell you both Nomar and ARod were ‘better’ players at the time.

                        hold my beer, Madden08:

if Jeter had applied himself properly, went to college and gotten a proper education from U.Michigan like Tom Brady, he could have played as long as Tom Brady, who did receive the education he needed from Michigan, so that he could play agelessly forever. if Brady can play a physically demanding sport like football at his age, Jeter should have been able to play MLB till he was 60. heck, MLB is practically a beer league softball event, compared to football, be it NFL, high school or even peewee football. because Jeter didn't go to Michigan, he'll always be remembered longterm as being ''that underachiever'', this ''captain'' thing is just a passing fad, I won't even remember it in a hundred years from now. more Yankee Doodle capitalistic propaganda

if Jeter had the benefit of more than just a couple years under George Costanza's tutelage, he'd have passed Pete Rose on the all-time hit list and he'd have won more WS championships than Yogi Berra
if Jeter hadn't been the playboy skirt chaser he was and settled down at a young age with a wholesome All-American girl like Bridget Everett, he could have kept his mind frame right and concentrated more on baseball, and Ted Williams frozen head would have readily admitted 'there goes Derek Jeter, the greatest hitter who ever lived'

Kid Griffey's real Achilles heel was he should have worn his cap backwards during games instead of just for HR Derbys. wearing a cap backwards has scientifically been proven to create less drag and resistance. Jr. could have played CF & a corner OF simultaneously, freeing up a spot for 5th M's IF'er

                        *takes beer back*

I looked and didn't find anything. His body broke down because of he threw his body around on the field. I think taking a single quote about stretching and extrapolating that to say he didn't work is a bit much. He also had a quote from his HOF speech that said he worked extremely hard to be great. So which is it?

It might have been Buhner that said that in the MLB Net piece, I know he's said it on the record. I went looking for it, but they pulled the MLBNet stuff off Comcast.

I'm sure playing on astroturf for a decade didn't help his body at all.
