Petco Park is a beautiful stadium. But I don't think Soto is going to hit well there it's a pitchers park, and that marine layer is going to impact him.

Anyone remember Ryan Klesko screaming how much he hated this park when it was built?

Strange, righties had relatively nothing to complain about with the original park dimensions. I know there was the marine layer, but still.

I could've sworn that Klesko complained as well, or at least he hit warning track shots like he'd be the one complaining.

I don't like when ballparks shrink their dimensions from their original vision, and many of them do it. The only thing I can accept with San Francisco doing it is it put their bullpens out of the playing field, but otherwise that is just as offensive as anywhere else. Center field is 391 feet!

Junior whined and moaned about Safeco as well.

Shots that usually sailed over the Kingdome wall just died in right field.

.. its alot warmer down there though. Especially in July and August. Guess it will be interesting to watch.

I remember talking with my friends in 8th grade who would be #1 when that came out.

it's a mixed-up topsy-turvy world when you can't count on ESPN for sports, MTV for music or the Weather Channel for weather.

I don't know if these clips exist anywhere on the Internet, but does anybody remember any of these moments? (sadly I don't have specific names except one)

                        - Carl Everett was hit by a pitch, then when at first base he barks at the pitcher saying that the next time he'll be hitting it out. Next at-bat he homered. He literally called his shot.

                        - With a runner on second base, a batter calls timeout and steps out while the pitcher sets from the stretch and is checking the runner behind him. The pitcher doesn't know the batter called time, and his pitch actually plunks the batter that is at rest out of the box. He charges the mound. I believe this was at Safeco Field, but don't quote me. Maybe I'm confusing that with the Omar Vizquel/Arthur Rhodes earring debacle, or maybe there was more than one incident that has occurred in Seattle in the history of the game lol.

                        - A pitcher injured himself throwing a pitch, and that pitch happened to hit the batter. The batter began to charge the mound but saw the pitcher was on the ground and in pain, and he stopped charging. Don't know if it was leg, arm, whatever. Don't remember the players involved or the location.

                        - An umpire returned from some time away from the field, I believe due to health concerns, perhaps a cancer battle (just a guess, no real idea). In his first game back, there was a pitch on the black for which the umpire literally did not know whether to call it a ball or strike. As the catcher turned his head, the umpire kind of shrugged his shoulders in an "I dunno" fashion. I forget if it was considered a no-pitch, a ball, or what. In my mind this was a game at the Metrodome if that helps you remember it any better.

I totally know the first one to be absolutely true, but am I making up these other ones? I need video evidence of these to recall them properly, but I don't know if anybody else can remember these ones with me and get me a little more information on them, haha.

Padres must be hoping the MLB allows them to void this contract. Between his injury and this, not a good look at all.

Remember when a few people on here (myself included) were really skeptical about the Padres signing him to this extension before he had played a full season’s worth of games, and we were told how wrong we were for doubting them? Yeah, as much as the Mets get flack for signing Francisco Lindor to a huge contract, the Padres deserve much, much more flack for ever agreeing to this deal with Tatis

We got Lindor on a great value trade, he was a top 3 SS at the time of the trade, Cleveland made it known they would rather rebuild than pay him top dollar to continue contending, and every team was rushing out to try to pay him once he hit the open market. It was completely understandable why we did everything we did, and hindsight is 20/20. I don’t blame Mets management one bit for Lindor not working out

The Padres had no reason to sign Tatis this early. They never let him hit arbitration, they never exercised any of their own options to retain control, they basically signed him out of fear that he would require $50 million a year in the future. Why give a player superstar leverage when most of his case involves potential with a small sample size? The Padres front office has made some GREAT moves to put them back in contention. But this was never one of them, and they may have ruined their future chances at a title with this move
