We're not going to compete this year or next...try to stock up for when you think the top prospects will arrive so you've got a team that is coming up together. It's like the 2005 Braves - all of those players grew up in the minors together and won a thrilling division race together as rookies. They want to repeat that so when everybody gets to the majors (assuming 2017 is what they're gunning for), ATL will be the team to beat for years.

That said, it's all speculation and at best potential unrealized. He's trading proven MLB talent that is YOUNG for unproven prospects like 2-3 years younger. Regardless of the hauls and prospects we get back, surely you all understand how easy it is to become apathetic towards this team and rooting for it. It's not just one player...it's the entire lineup.

The trades completed are a mixed bag. Oliveria is 30 years old - how does he fit into this "young and contending for years to come" plan? What about trading Simba? Others are great deals...the trade w/AZ to get Touki Toussaint (2014 1st rounder) for practically nothing; Shelby Miller trade is great as SF is right in we basically traded Heyward for 4 long time MLB players (again potentially).

I saw an article where Hart/Cop were talking to reporters about the state of the franchise. Cop isn't very media savvy but Hart is and he explained that he understands the fanbase is dispondent and frankly has contempt for the front office but it's a process and they want to be relevant for years to come vs. short fixes like what we tried with the trade for JUp. I agree with his perspective as I want ATL to be WS contenders annually but this is a risk they're taking - both financially and in public "approval".
I get that we are trading "proven" talent for prospects, but let's look at what we've traded:

        - Heyward: wouldn't have resigned him and we just turned him into 3 stud prospects.

        - Justin Upton: Wouldn't have resigned him and turned him into Fried, Peterson, and Smith AND Austin Riley (with the draft pick)

        - Kimbrel: Had to be traded to get rid of BJ's contract and we don't need a stud closer anyway right now. Turned him into Wisler.

        - Gattis: Had no future with the team as he's an AL type. Turned him into Rio Ruiz and Folty.

        - Simmons: A player who I loved, but if he isn't going to hit he could decline quickly. In return we get a proven commodity in Aybar plus two stud pitchers in Newcombe and Ellis.

        - Wood/Peraza for Oliver's, Rodriguez, Withrow. I still love this deal. Alex Wood is a ticking time bomb and Peraza will never amount to anything, IMO. If Olivera hits well they could even turn him into more players at this year's deadline.

        - Miller: Solid starter, but we literally got a guy in Blair who is probably as good as he is plus two very good players.

Can you not see how much talent we have gotten back and outside of Simmons they were trades that had to happen? What Hart/Cop have done is remarkable IMO.

Interesting, would you happen to know offhand who has the greatest disparity all time?

No, SF...I get it. I really do. I see the light (albeit like the moon on a cloudy night) and what the front office wants to achieve. It's just...I guess to be abrupt, hard to accept, given my entire life of watching baseball has seen ATL be relevant and contending.

Get this bull**** outta here...the Marlins would take that trade yesterday. Even if you took out Schwarber and Russell.

The Justice/Grissom for Lofton certainly didn't pan out...let me ask, why do you not like the deal? These prospects that came back aren't 18 years old kids. Enciarte put up a 5 war season this year and is 25, Aaron Blair is 23 and probably big league ready now. Swanson is 22 and will move quickly...
I've already made clear why I am disillusioned by the Atlanta Braves franchise, and sports in general.

I edited that part out...I realize 2016 Braves were going to be bad anyway and any terrible team provokes a lack of interest.

Hart said that they have $$ to spend and 2016 offseason will be much different than 2015. I hope he lives up to his word.

Perfectly sums this deal up. Glad Boston stayed away from this kid.

FWIW, The Castro deal is official...

And so is the Zob deal
Marlins wanted Corbin on top of that.

It just occurred to me that the Braves have acquired the DBacks last two #1 picks (Dansby and Toussaint) for Phil Gosselin and Shelby Miller...

Yeah. Had this guy started accumulating value at 22 or 23 rather than 28 or 29, we'd be having the discussion about his HoF prospects in the other thread. Zobrist is legit as they come.

Jesus the Diamondbacks got slaughtered in that trade. They better hope they can win the title in the next couple of years because their future was mortgaged for a #3.
