    Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread

Would be a great guy to get. Lefty reliever who has had a real good year this year, with real good numbers despite pitching in Colorado. And to top it off, he has AL East experience being with Yankees for 4 years as well(and putting up good numbers there too).

Shouldn't expect Rockies price to be too high for him. There's 5 teams ahead of them in the WC picture, and he has an expiring contract. Get whatever they can if someone really does want him.

Taijuan Walker drawing "strong" trade interest. A bunch of scouts will be in attendance this weekend for his start.

Marlins and Rangers are front-runners for Andrew Cashner who's expected to be dealt within the next 48 hours.

From who? We better get a substantial haul that includes a top 20ish prospect or three. If the Yankees can get what they did for half a year of Chapman then if we trade Walker the return better be on par or better than what the NYY got. A controllable starter with huge upside and an insane K:BB ratio. I believe he's 2nd to Kershaw in K:BB.

Also, instead of buying high on Bruce, I think the Maeiners should consider buying low on Puig. I say that because we have one of the best hitting coaches in baseball, who was one of the best hitters of his generation. Who also happens to be Hispanic, so I honestly think Edgar has a chance to reach Puig, and get to him. If Edgar can't fix him I doubt anyone can.

If you're talking GOAT in Mariners franchise history, sure. If you're talking GOAT of the 1990's, ok, maybe. If you're somehow saying he likes to eat grass, well, I don't really know about that.

But, if you really mean GOAT as in greatest player of all time literally, then you need to read some books about the history of baseball to get some actual perspective. You're selling dozens of players that are/were better than Griffey short. A lot better than Griffey. You really can't have any serious claim to GOAT if the final decade of your career was mostly trash, playing out the string as a shell of the former player.

If you actually think Griffey is ahead of Ruth, Mays, Mantle, Williams, Bonds, Aaron, etc...then you will be having your baseball commenting license revoked. Expect a notice in the mail.

He was hurt a lot in the 00's. And unlike some people he didn't 'Magically' get better with age. He played the game with a wreckless abandon that eventually caught up with him and took it's toll in his later days. He could have resorted to chemical help to get him through it, but chose not to. And as stated before, Griffey is my favorite player ever, and a huge reason why I'm a Mariners fan, and a baseball fan in general. And to me he's the GOAT.

And please don't ever use Bonds' name in a GOAT discussion again. That fraud has no business being mentioned among the greats. Griffey by default is better than Bonds.

Trout is not in that category, yet. It it weren't for the Reds ruining him, he'd have the HR record, and 3,000+ hits. And, a legit HR king on top of it.
                    As of 3 days ago:

                    First 750 career games

                    <s>#</s>Mariners Ken Griffey Jr. .304/.375/.523 136 HR & 78 SB

                    <s>#</s>Angels Mike Trout .306/.400/.560 158 HR & 130 SB

                    via @theaceofspaeder
                    Griffey thru 24: .306/.379/.541 (144 wRC+), 172 HR, 88 SB, 35.0 WAR
                    Trout thru 24: .305/.400/.558 (167 wRC+), 158 HR, 130 SB, 44.3 WAR

                    via @augustfg_
And I don't even know what this is but:

Mike Trout has never finished a season with a lower wRC+ than Ken Griffey Jr's best season's wRC+

                    via @augustfg_
I don't get caught up in stats too much for various reasons but to say that Griffey is ">>>" Trout is ****ing asinine. He's very legitimately "in that category." Not sure why I'm even bothering. I know there's no swaying you, but I figure I'll post these just for others to see.

I'm sorry, but Bonds was better then Griffey in virtually every way, that's no knock on Griffey. But I would imagine most everyone would take the 7 time mvp over Griffey. Even throwing out his Insane 73 hr campaign, he still trumps Griffey.

Of course, maybe that changes if Griffey stays healthy. But Bonds eye popping obp, power, great fielding, and world class speed made him the perfect baseball player.

People forget how damn good he was, before he ever touched a needle.

They're all amazing, all-time players. I just can't stand the ridiculous bias and denigration.

Anyway, this thread has veered quite off topic.

yeah me either. We might as well start questioning if the baseballs are juiced too.

Fits exactly what you think of with the Giants--fielding, speed, contact over power. I still think they need a power bat, but I like this move
I loathe the Giants, but this was a great deal for them.
I have Nunez in my pool so hopefully this doesn't affect his value being a utility player once everyone comes back healthy. Fingers crossed they don't.

Andrew Cashner going to the Marlins per Ken Rosenthal. Padres receiving 1B Josh Naylor (2015 top pick for Miami) in the trade along with others.
