Re: 2022 - 2023 Hot Stove Thread

Wait, you're all comparing Diaz's $25M deferred payments with interest to be bad compared to what the Cohen tax would cost them? The final 2022 payroll for the Mets was $282M. The 2023 estimated payroll at the moment is $237M and that's not signing anymore FA. I don't care how many of these deals they're doing they're still saving money going this route instead of an 80% hit if they go over.

MLB and the players' association raised the luxury tax threshold from $210 million to $230 million this year. A first-time offender such as the Mets would pay a 20% tax on the amount above the threshold, 32% on the amount above $250 million and 62.5% on the amount above $270 million.

A new fourth tier some negotiators said was aimed at Cohen starts at $290 million with a rate of 80% for first-time offenders, 90% for second and 110% for third.

The Mets are on track to lead the majors in luxury tax payroll at about $250 million -- and owner Steve Cohen has heard that baseball's new luxury tax level is being nicknamed after him.

Obviously not my first choice where I’d like him to sign, but I live in Dallas so it would be cool to get to watch him pitch live

won't be long before he gets injured again and texas seems to be famous for injured starters in recent years.

I was looking forward to the Rangers sucking for a couple more years so I could go to cheap home games but it looks like they're set on spending tons of money (what a franchise should do) so I don't know if tickets will remain reasonable.

Compared to how they used to be. It’s a lot more expensive than when I was younger lol. Especially the food and drink prices.

Not player moves, but Dan Shulman is stepping away from calling baseball for ESPN.

He'll now be exclusive to the Jays. This also sounds to me like Buck Martinez is retiring from the broadcast booth. I hope they at least give Buck one more game to call if he's fully done. Doesn't feel right having him retiring without knowing it's his final game.
