Seems like Jays are trading Teoscar Hernandez to Seattle.

Haven’t seen who is coming back though.

    Maybe Winker?

          Bittersweet.

          Swanson was fantastic last year.

.. no chance Winker will be back in Seattle. Word is out he was a bad clubhouse guy.

Another thing to think about, Jays recently DFAed Zimmer and Tapia.

They have 3 MLB OFers on the 40 man roster.

            Another deal coming? FA signing?

I can think of a certain big name FA in right field who would fit in well, and with Ryu injured, the #99 is probably free...

Or not as exciting but still decent, they have interest in Nimmo. Would be the lefty OF bat they need. That could push Springer to RF. Maybe bring in Brantley too (he was rumored to be signing with Jays before he went back to Houston). Brantley as a 4-5OF but their primary DH would help with flexibility.

Taijuan Walker to the Blue Jays to replace Ryu?

Your showing interest in Nimmo now after the trade.

If Braves dont resign Swanson, they dont plan to go after any of the other big name SS's.

I don't think you move a big name like Hernandez without having a guy lined up.

And if you sign a guy first, then teams know you have to move someone.

Atkins admitted Springer would be open to playing RF if someone comes in at CF, so that sounds like Nimmo could fit in there.

Comparing Nimmo and Hernandez, they had similar numbers in 2022. Nimmo the way better on base %, Hernandez way better slugging %, but batting average and OPS and OPS+ is near identical. Big difference being Nimmo hits left handed which is a big need for the Jays, as well as way better defensively than Hernandez (and also pushes Springer into RF).

Nimmo will be the bigger commitment, projected 5 years at 110m. Apparently Jays have never offered Hernandez a long term deal, so perhaps they never saw him as a long term plan. He would've made around 14m this year and wanting more beyond that. Nimmo likely getting around 22m a year, so long term it would've cost a similar number for both.

Not a bad move if they pull it off. Replace Hernandez with a guy who had similar numbers last season, while also getting one of the better relievers in baseball this past season, and a prospect that management has apparently been high on for 3 years.

I can't find the article right now, but AA did an interview with local reporters recently and kept talking about how great Grissom is and how he's ready. AA never said resigning Swanson wasn't an option, but he sure hinted otherwise.

Interesting. CY (or the director of baseball ops) was on the local sports radio recently talking about how DeGrom is still "very high" on their radar. Part of why I love this time of year, the messaging games teams play to throw people off their scent lol

Interesting to see reactions to the move.

Baseballtradevalues says it's a big win for the Jays (if they don't retain any salary, which doesn't seem to be the case), but some fans seem to be on the fence about it.

In the end, it's really just 1 year of Hernandez for 3 of Swanson and then hoping Macko turns into something.

If the legendary Drew Hutchinson trade tree has taught us anything, it's that the further into the tree we branch out, the better the guys get.

I'm 100% expecting them to let Swanson walk and install Vaughn Grissom at SS. Not sure how I feel about that; he really cooled off after his hot start and he's a liability defensively at this point (despite what they try and say)...a mistake, IMO, but a very Braves move.
