Too bad as we all know it'll continue to be inconsistent, but it's nice to have Gonzalez reach the 50 RBI plateau this early and a few guys swinging the bat well. It is nice however to come out and blowout the Cubs a day after what happened yesterday.

Too bad the Padres don't get to face Rich Hill anymore. Seven home runs in two games against him (four by Cameron).

On a side note, depending on Kouzmanoff's status, I expect Headley to return to AA before Tuesday if Kouzmanoff is ready. 1-10 isn't impressive, but not striking out every at-bat a la Geoff Blum is quite nice.

I can see why they are high on Headley. He's simply not ready for the show yet. You could tell he was a young hitter who was overmatched by major league pitching. I expect to see him in a Padre uniform fairly soon, assuming of course they don't resort to their normal trick of letting guys languish far to long in the minors.

He'll probably be a September call up, but unless he absolutely mashes in Portland if he does get promoted to AAA after the first half is over this season, I see him coming on 2009 after a full season in AAA either as our 3B or LF (depending on what Kouzmanoff does from here on out. I'm guessing if Kouz pans out, Headley's defense will push Kouzmanoff to LF).

There's definitely no reason to rush and stunt Headley's progress.

WTF at the score!? Since when did Petco Park turn into a hitter's paradise.

11-6 Padres through six and a half.

                      Interesting trade.

Padres don't ever deal for "problem" players, what happens to Bard? Bowen? Is this part of another trade, hopefully to bring some power to an outfield position? Can Barrett throw out runners?

EDIT; Oops Bowen was part of the trade

maybe Barrett was being a problem because he wanted out? In another Barrett thread....Bardo is now going to become the backup, do to he is falling out of favor with management and think starting is starting to get at him.

Not really. This year, he's thrown out 7 of 39 would-be basestealers, giving up 32. Last year, he threw out 21 of 110 would-be basestealers, meaning he gave up 89 stolen bases.

It's no secret that the Padres can't throw baserunners out unless Peavy is pitching. I think even Bowen had a tough time throwing guys out because of how slow most of the pitchers are towards the plate.

Michael Barrett should fit in perfectly, giving every other division rival a reason to exploit the Padres weakness.

Not if every single/walk turns into runners in scoring position. Every stat is over-rated except wins and loses.
