Why, what do you think Wrigley is?

The Bears sold their naming rights, what's the big deal.
Don't you EVER read my blog? It's gotten a lot better.

Midget, Although Wrigley was the name of the gum, the stadium was named after old man Wrigley in honor of him......the gum just happen to bear his name also. So it actually wasn't a corp. sponsorship.

Please dont think i'm talking down to you, but it is a big deal to me. Hell ,I still can't get over "United Center" as opposed to old "Chicago Stadium"( yes, I know is a different arena )

yeah what is the big deal, do you ever hear them referred to as the Chase One Bears? I doubt it, but they still get paid for it.

And maybe the stadium was name after the old man, but it was still an advertisement for Wrigley gum.

The fact is the Cubs need a new stadium, but since people would be outrage of that idea, the Cubs organization, as well prospectus owners, need to explore all possible avenues to generate revenue.

Damn bro, they just raised tickets by 25% I beleive this year. They have a ton of money generating scenarios going on right now. I could see the Cubs play against the Cards in Wrigley, and spend $45(face value) on a bleacher ticket, or when I lived in St Louis, I spent $14(face value) and set in the 8th row of the bleachers.

I'll ask again, are you serious? Perhaps you don't care, but I'm pretty sure at least 95% (and thats a conservative estimate) of Cubs fans would be pretty freakin pissed off if they changed the name of Wrigley Field. It may have been an advertisement for Wrigley, but it's been the name for 80-90 years. It has transcended being an advertisement, and is now the name of a historical landmark. Everyone in America, including non-baseball fans know what Wrigley Field is. They know about the ivy covered brick walls, the manual scoreboard in center field, the rooftops behind Sheffield and Waveland... it has a great deal of sentimental value to the city of Chicago. If you really believe its not a big deal, you're just either naive, or trying to have a different opinion for the sake of reaction or to sound smarter than all of us "regular" Cub fans.

While I don't want the name to be changed, I don't think it is unfair of the Cubs to call out the Wrigley company and ask for money. I am all about winning. If naming rights bring in extra revenue that goes towards increasing payroll than all good.

The White Sox payroll is right below the Cubs for this upcoming year. Three years ago we would have laughed at that. While they enjoyed a spike in attendence I don't think that is what brought their payroll way up. Is it outside revenue streams, I don't know?

If they're going to start taking away all the nostalgia from Wrigley I think they just need to shut the thing down and build a new stadium.

If you're going to change the name and throw a bunch of advertisements around the stadium then atleast give me a stadium that isn't outdated 30 years.

If you take away the Ivy and the Brick the place is pretty much a dump.

Murton has been thrown around in a lot of scenarios from I hear from the Padres, Rangers, and Orioles.

Players of interest are Brian Roberts/Erik Bedrad from Baltimore or Marlyon Bryd from Texas.

LOL, I like Murton, but if we can pry Bedard from B-More, then I'm all for it. Interested to see who the other guys involved would be.

Seattle has a pretty good package out there for Bedard in Adam Jones and Brandon Morrow, and I'm not sure the Cub's would compete with that, but we'll see.

I still think Murton is gonna be a real good hitter, but like Pie last season, he just hasnt gotten a chance. Its just to difficult to use a young guy in a back up role and expect them to perform consitently. Heck, its tough enough for a vet to do it, let alone a young guy.

I've heard that there could be a package including Marshall, Murton, Pie, and Gallager to get Roberts and Bedard and then going after FA Lofton to play center. Thats something I think would work Lofton as the CF and if he needs days off Fukudome can play CF and DeRosa can play RF. That deal can open a lot of possibilities. Just my opinion.

I can see that, but DeRosa isnt all that thrilled with being a backup. Should be interesting to see how this shakes out for the team.
