Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
Midget, Although Wrigley was the name of the gum, the stadium was named after old man Wrigley in honor of him......the gum just happen to bear his name also. So it actually wasn't a corp. sponsorship.
Please dont think i'm talking down to you, but it is a big deal to me. Hell ,I still can't get over "United Center" as opposed to old "Chicago Stadium"( yes, I know is a different arena )Last edited by bluengold34_OS; 01-22-2008, 10:39 AM.Twitch - bluengold34_osComment

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
yeah what is the big deal, do you ever hear them referred to as the Chase One Bears? I doubt it, but they still get paid for it.
And maybe the stadium was name after the old man, but it was still an advertisement for Wrigley gum.
The fact is the Cubs need a new stadium, but since people would be outrage of that idea, the Cubs organization, as well prospectus owners, need to explore all possible avenues to generate revenue.Comment

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
While I don't want the name to be changed, I don't think it is unfair of the Cubs to call out the Wrigley company and ask for money. I am all about winning. If naming rights bring in extra revenue that goes towards increasing payroll than all good.
The White Sox payroll is right below the Cubs for this upcoming year. Three years ago we would have laughed at that. While they enjoyed a spike in attendence I don't think that is what brought their payroll way up. Is it outside revenue streams, I don't know?Comment

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
If they're going to start taking away all the nostalgia from Wrigley I think they just need to shut the thing down and build a new stadium.
If you're going to change the name and throw a bunch of advertisements around the stadium then atleast give me a stadium that isn't outdated 30 years.
If you take away the Ivy and the Brick the place is pretty much a dump."The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Even if you're giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail."

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
Seattle has a pretty good package out there for Bedard in Adam Jones and Brandon Morrow, and I'm not sure the Cub's would compete with that, but we'll see.
I still think Murton is gonna be a real good hitter, but like Pie last season, he just hasnt gotten a chance. Its just to difficult to use a young guy in a back up role and expect them to perform consitently. Heck, its tough enough for a vet to do it, let alone a young guy.Comment

LOL, I like Murton, but if we can pry Bedard from B-More, then I'm all for it. Interested to see who the other guys involved would be.

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
I've heard that there could be a package including Marshall, Murton, Pie, and Gallager to get Roberts and Bedard and then going after FA Lofton to play center. Thats something I think would work Lofton as the CF and if he needs days off Fukudome can play CF and DeRosa can play RF. That deal can open a lot of possibilities. Just my opinion.Comment
