Since Peavy was drafted by the Padres, they've had three losing seasons, and haven't made a whimper in the playoffs. What suddenly make you think that he'll get tired of playing on a losing team? Meanwhile, all the articles I've been finding that mention him lately are talking about how overrated he is since his ERA is a full point higher on the road.
The Red Sox seemed to want Giles pretty bad last year. Honestly, who wouldn't want a .300 hitter with a .400 OBP? He bats better on the road, and can actually still hit the occasional HR when he's not at home. Kouz wouldn't get much in return, but with Headley and Blanks doing well this spring, they've already started trying Blanks at both 3B and LF, both with positive results. It's not too hard to see him spening a few weeks in Portland to see if he can still handle those positions, and if he does well, bring him up in June like the did last year with Chase, and Kouz getting traded in some worthless trade for a mediocre RP. If he shows that he can't handle either of those positions, Blanks is getting traded.
It's not blind homer faith when I have no faith in the FO, and fully expect this team to have a crap season. I just like rooting for my team, even when I know they suck. This isn't meant for you, but that seems to be a pretty novel concept in California.
