As far as 10 games, yes I realize that. But you realize how significant 10 games is when you have the least talented and thinnest roster in all of baseball is right? Just like with the Chargers you are completely overrating the team you are a fan of.

As far as Peavy, it's very simple baseball economics. The Padres are in the midst of an ownership change. The Bottom line is all that matters to the FO at this point. Jake Peavy's contract takes up about 20% of the entire payroll. They are coming in last whether they have Peavy or don't have Peavy. So they'd rather just come in last and save that 20% of the payroll.

I have not heard a single actual baseball person say he thinks Peavy will be with that team at the end of the year. Why you would have faith in that FO to do the smart thing and keep him, I have no idea, other than blind homer faith.

Not to mention, Peavy is going to be sick of losing by June or July, and there's little doubt he'll ease up on his trade restrictions.

Where are Giles and Kouz going? Who the hell is going to want to take either of those stiffs off the Pads hands. You really think anyone wants Giles?

    It's that simple.
Since Peavy was drafted by the Padres, they've had three losing seasons, and haven't made a whimper in the playoffs. What suddenly make you think that he'll get tired of playing on a losing team? Meanwhile, all the articles I've been finding that mention him lately are talking about how overrated he is since his ERA is a full point higher on the road.

The Red Sox seemed to want Giles pretty bad last year. Honestly, who wouldn't want a .300 hitter with a .400 OBP? He bats better on the road, and can actually still hit the occasional HR when he's not at home. Kouz wouldn't get much in return, but with Headley and Blanks doing well this spring, they've already started trying Blanks at both 3B and LF, both with positive results. It's not too hard to see him spening a few weeks in Portland to see if he can still handle those positions, and if he does well, bring him up in June like the did last year with Chase, and Kouz getting traded in some worthless trade for a mediocre RP. If he shows that he can't handle either of those positions, Blanks is getting traded.

It's not blind homer faith when I have no faith in the FO, and fully expect this team to have a crap season. I just like rooting for my team, even when I know they suck. This isn't meant for you, but that seems to be a pretty novel concept in California.

They wanted Giles "last year" and when they had a OF problem. Have you seen the market on old OF'ers right now? There is no market for Giles.

There is a difference between losing and losing with no hope for being competetive. Peavy's going to want out. And like I said, it's basic baseball economics. Come in last, or come in last with an extra 20% of your payroll back. There is almost zero chance Peavy remains with the team. That's blatantly obvious. There's a big market for Peavy, and his salary is excellent for any team no named San Diego or Pittsburgh.

I no longer root for this team. Not because they are crappy I can live with a team being bad (see Chargers, Clippers, etc.), but because they don't care they are crappy. Why root for a team that has zero desire to win, and who's only motivation is milking the fans for every dollar they can. Why invest my time and money in to a team that doesn't care if they win or lose?

Don't don't even get me started on that dump/disaster known as Petco.

Lets get one thing straight. I have always followed the Angels, since even 25 years ago, living in SD, the Angels I could see on TV every day, and the Pads I couldn't. Not much has changed.

And if you read my post, it says, I no longer root for the Padres, and quite specifically why.

I don't know BK, as long as I can remember you are always bad mouthing the Pads. Never knew you were an Angels fans until a last years ago. I also thought it was funny when you bad mouth them and they ended up winning the division a couple years ago. You and that Lions, Red Wings and Wolverine fan are so HARD on your teams.

They won the division by default. Any other division and they finish 10 games out.

Just to put things in to perspective, when they played the Cards that sesaon, in the playoff series, the #3 hitter for St. Louis was Albert Pujols. The #3 hitter for San Diego was Todd Walker. That team had no business in the post season.

As far as not knowing I was an Angel fan, I think the Vlad Guerrero avatar I was running with 3 years ago, would have been a nice hint.

Despite being an Angels fan, you obviously care enough about the Padres to take the time to bash them to no end. It's funny, because no one is being delusional here about the Padres, but you still insist on bringing your condenscending tone here? You're right, why waste our time with this team when we could go the easy way and root for a winner in a bigger market? Why waste our time with a team that's obviously in the ****ter right now?

I don't know, you tell me.

Tell me what fan does not say that about their teams. I mean you have some that are hard on their teams and then you have the ones that think their teams are going to win it all! Even if they suck. I am in the middle. I know the Giants will be just around 500, but I like some of these young guys.

Yep. You don't need to look any further than 82 wins and 87 wins in 2005 and 2006.

I don't think any division winner has topped 95 wins or has had a roster that screamed playoff contender. Pretty sad, although things are looking up for a couple of ballclubs in this division.

Again has nothing to do with them not being good. If that was a problem I wouldn't root for the Chargers or the Clippers.

It's the mere fact they don't care they aren't good. They have no desire to be a championship team. Their only goal is to fleece the fans for as much money as they can. See Petco Park.

I do care, I invested a lot of time with this team. I have been followed them for more years than you have been alive, and guarantee you I have seen more games and spent more money on them than you have by a landslide.
I have more, I repeat more than earned my right to be critical of that team.

If you want to be one of the blind sheep that's on you.

And Anaheim is a bigger market? Hardly, it's a bigger payroll, since it has an ownership group that cares, but it's not a bigger market by any stretch.

LA is really looking good on paper, but we shall see. I just want a power hitter and the Giants will be back.

That's true. You'll always have your realists and optimists, then you have people who are straight up out of their ****ing minds overrating every single player in the system and trashing any player that's about to be moved or isn't on the team.

Around the time they announced Peavy was going to be traded, I got pissed much like I did when Perez and Bay were traded, but then you always come to terms that players will always be traded, even your favorite players.

Like I said before, I'm just hoping they don't get stupid and sell themselves short of an ace they don't need to trade now that the sale is a done deal.

I disagree. There are plenty of teams with ownership out there who've made it abudnantly clear winning is the priority.

The Padres are not one of those teams. Hell thanks to their ridiculously short-sighted TV deal, I can't even watch them on TV, and I am in the middle of their market.
