NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! This would be a terrible move by the Reds. Let's hope it doesn't happen. If they want a cheap player,I would rather have Zanesville native Jay Payton to platoon with Dickerson.Still has some pop in his bat and decent speed.

The Reds signed Jonny Gomes to a minor league deal, huh? I hope Jocketty plans on bringing some more guys in than just Gomes.

For those that live In Ohio or near Cincinnati/Tri-State area, the Reds just announced the Winter Caravan Tour stops:

2009 Reds Winter Caravan Stops Announced

I haven't attended one of these since the Dave Miley years, but Always loved seeing Marty and Joe back in the day. Nice event if you want to ask questions or get some autographs for the kids also.

A good friend of mine works at the Air Force Museum and sent me something about the caravan making a stop there. I may have to come up for that.

Yeah. They used to have it at the Frickers in West Carrollton (South of Dayton), but unfortunately I had to shoot video of that restaurant going up in Flames one night for work.

It still hasn't been rebuilt, but not much you can do in the winter.

I may slide on over to the AF Museum. It's only like 5 minutes from where I live.

                This news is disheartening:

Castellini and general manager Walt Jocketty said the club is already at budget as far payroll – meaning they’ll likely go to spring training with the roster as is, without another big bat. Castellini said for the first time that the economy is affecting the budget.

Yeah, what was unknown to us fans was that they probably never intended to get one. Oh well. I'll still cheer them on. I don't expect to open my wallet to buy tickets very often though unless they're cheap. That has more to do more with having other major expenses (grad school) to deal with than the economy.

BTW, I thought one of the comments about how John Fay has given Mike Brown an excuse (the economy) to not do anything this off-season was funny.

I rarely buy tickets anymore either. Most of the time I've been there in the past two years has been with work and I usually don't stay the length of the game. Get in, shoot some pre or post interviews and leave.

Last year was the first time I didn't actually go to a game and have a beer with friends. Did it each year since GABP was built except for last year.

Did however get to watch the end of the Extra Innings Game vs. the Red Sox from the photo pit in the visitors dugout, which was pretty cool.

I am OK with the Reds offseason. I will go to 4 or 5 games this year. We are a small-mid budget team. I just accept that and hope for the best. It is nice seeing some homegrown talent come up and adding some pieces around that. I'm cool with the Reds.

Until we grow our Albert Pujlois we will always be where we are.

I know they have said they are done with the big boys, but I am still holding out hope that we can get Abreu or Nady. I think the Yanks want more than we are willing to give up for Nady, but Abreu I just read is open to a 1 year deal. I think either one of these guys would make this team infinitely better.

Reds signed C Humberto Cota (former performance-enhancing drug user) to a minor league deal:

why? adding Nady or Abreu to this team does not make it playoff bound so to me that's wasted money and a roster spot that could've gone to a younger player. I too wish the Reds had been a bit more active in the offseason but it's not like we can throw around money like the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs or Dodgers.

I know it's flown under the radar but I'm pretty excited about the pick up of Ramon Hernandez at catcher. Finally some consistent offensive production from the catcher, who's also pretty good defensively.

I've always been a fan of his, mostly from fantasy league experience. I agree that the signing has kind of flown under the radar. It was a good move by the Reds.
