Lets hope Soto is next. But I think they'll just ride it out with him to get his Value back up.
If Clevenger and Castillo keep hitting, he will be gone, but for hardly anything.

If he's hitting, LaHair is gone as well

I'm don't know, I really like LaHair. I think he'll finish the year with the Cubs. I'd like to see him in left for a year after Rizzo is called up. I feel like LaHair still has the potential to be the 2nd best hitter in their lineup. He just seems to always have a good AB.

I was just thinking the same thing... He raked so much last year in AAA that he deserves a good long look. I hope they don't plan for Rizzo to push him out at first, rather than to simply push him to the OF.

I mean, how long has this stupid team needed a left-handed bat?

I've seen some reports on twitter that Wellington Castillo has been called up after the game tonight, still not sure if Soto is hurt or has been traded.

I will not watch another Cubs game until Carlos Marmol is off of this team. What a worthless waste of space. Release him, DFA him, trade him, I don't care. Right now, I'd take almost anyone to get him out of here. What a joke.

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread

I understand being frustrated with him.

2-3 years ago he was an unhittable reliever. It is no surprise that his weird mechanics have probably gone awry.

I would hope the team is looking at tape from his dominant years to detect changes that may be affecting his control...

then again, he was used quite frequently for a good long while...his arm may simply be fatigued enough to make him ineffective.

My bet, however, is it is a mechanics issue...someone is getting paid a ton of cash to figure that out and try to fix it.

That being said, Dempster and Garza have had a great month.

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread

From write-up of yesterday's win over the Braves:

"David DeJesus hit a leadoff single in the seventh, and Tony Campana bunted him to second and he reached third on Starlin Castro's grounder to first. LaHair then hit a hard grounder under shortstop Jack Wilson's glove to give the Cubs the lead."

We've been reading things like this pretty consistently of late... It's awesome to see the team playing baseball instead of just "hit the ball". Campana gives the team a very useful set of tools. In general they've been aggressive on the basepaths, and it has produced rather often.

If Rizzo can turn his minor league production into Major League production, next year could be interesting.

What happens to Campana if he proves himself a great asset this year, and, say, Brett Jackson is ready? Could the Cubs go with LaHair, Jackson, and Campana in the OF? Stewart-Castro-Barney-Rizzo around the horn?

Heck, we could see this in September.

                      Hats off to Dempster, btw...wow.

I've been a fan of extending Garza all along as long as it's reasonable.

theres nothing hot right now but lines of communication are open & the #cubs will try to extend matt garza, not trade him Via Jon Heyman

I really hope we can resign him, if not then I'm confident that we'll get some good prospects for him. I'm a big Garza fan, and I'd love to have him on the team for as long as possible.

He's a legitimate ace. It's too bad his and Dempster's efforts so far this year have gone to waste. Another solid outing for Garza tonight and the bullpen gives up 7 runs in the 8th and 9th

It's frustrating to watch the bullpen blow the game as a fan, I couldn't even imagine how Garza and Dempster feel after they give us a good quality start. I think we've played better than our record shows. Hopefully we can do something to get the bullpen going.
