So, how much longer are we going to keep tossing Marmol out there in the 9th? Why can't they just either trade this bum, or use him in mop up roles. He's absolute garbage.

There has to be another choice.
HOWEVER, I dont expect the Cubs to show any profit in the Win column until at least 2015 so, does it really matter?Comment

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
Yes it does. Why try engrave a winning culture if our most important bullpen pitcher is a lazy, selfish bum that had one good year. I'd rather see Camp in the closers role, heck, put an AA pitcher there, at least we're building a future. Marmol needs to be ran out of town. I can't stand him and never have.Comment

I agree with you on Marmol, Ive never liked the guy, even in his supposed good year.
My only point is, the Cubs are rebuilding. I dont think that a closer is their #1 priority right now and if they lose another 100 games in 2013, it wont be because of the closer.
They need to pay more attention and more money on hitters, defense and middle relievers.
Marmol wont even be a part of the winning team when its been built.Comment

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
I think you're drastically underestimating the Cubs chances this season.
The division as a whole is weak, as well as the entire NL. When Garza returns, we'll have arguably the best rotation within the division.
His return will also move Feldman or Villanueva to the bullpen, which gives us another quality arm late in games. Marmol will not be the closer for long and it's almost certain that Fujikawa will take over full time duties at some point this season.
Our top of the lineup is solid and with a full year of protection from Rizzo and Soriano, you can almost put money on it now that Castro will return to .300+ form and if DeJesus continues to get on base as he did last season, we'll definitely be scoring some runs.
The bottom half of the lineup is the question mark, but I like what I saw out of Castillo yesterday, Schierholtz is a grinder and with Barney healthy, there is at least something to be optimistic about.
We definitely won't be losing 100 games this year, and if we have one or two guys have break out seasons, I could see us being around .500 and maybe looking at that second wild card spot should some things fall in our favor.
The Cubs may be rebuilding, but this team isn't going to be a push over like last year.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
The Cubs had a deal to trade Marmol to the Angels last year but he vetoed it.. it's not as easy as saying "just trade him!" Someone actually has to want him and he has to want to go there.
I think they'll continue to give him chances in hopes that his trade value stays up so they're not paying him $10M for absolutely nothing and are unable to get anything for him.
It's too bad. In his good year, he was maybe the best strikeout pitcher in baseball with the best slider I've ever seen. He just never tried to maintain that or get better which is evident in his atrocious mechanics.Comment

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
He didn't veto it. He had a clause where he could submit teams he didn't want to be traded to, but said he wouldn't veto a trade to a contender.
The deal fell apart because of the questionable medicals the Cubs received on Haren.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles
