Soler looks very promising. I don't think we should start the hype train yet. Ask me again after one full season of professional ball. As for Campana, I'm said to see him go considering how exciting it was to watch him play. It's been a while since the Cubs had a legitimate base stealer. It's a shame he could never get the ball in play. I still remember watching him in AA, and loved how he was a grinder. I didn't think he would be an everyday player, but hopefully he can be in Arizona. I wish him the best of luck.

Soler is a great talent. He has all the tools you hope a player can have. The goal is to progress and fine tune all of those tools. He could truly be an outstanding player and an All Star caliber player every year. The more you watch this kid, the more you're happy they signed him instead of Cespedes.

Obviously I'm going to defend campana blindly, but to his credit when he got everyday playing time early in the year he hour over .300. His stats slipped once he was out of the lineup and lost consistent ABs.

either way, I am also excited for the season even though my expectations arent high

Same thing happened to Tyler Colvin. I still think he could've been a good Cub.

Yeah, the Campana situation was a tad questionable. Especially with how miserable we were last year and how little of a threat we were on the base paths. Felt he gave us an added dimension when he was in the lineup. Thought he played well in limited time, and you can always use a speedster off the bench. Think dumping him was a bit hasty, but that's baseball.

As for Soler, kid appears to be the real deal. Incredible upper body strength. Only real thing that I can see right now that needs improvement, is his swing needs to be a little more direct. It seems he can get a bit loopy at times, but other than that the kid possesses all the tools. Definitely a bright looking future for him in a Cubs uni.

Tony Campana couldnt get on base. Simple as that. He was given plenty of opportunities to do so and failed.

His speed is useless if he cant do the simple thing of getting on base.

I won't shed a tear over him or Colvin. They were given chances and failed.

Stats last year while he was an everyday starter (for the most part).

                      Spoiler

Hit .306 with a .360 OBP while starting full-time for a month. Granted, it's a small sample size.

In comparison, Michael Bourne hit .274 with a .348 OBP. DeJesus hit .263 with a .350 OBP. Alejandro De Aza - .281/.349

                      Just a few examples.

The stats above suggest slightly otherwise...

But my issue, even Colvin aside, is that you seem to have so much faith in an organization that has made very few good decisions in the past several years, regardless of front office personnel.

I'm not saying getting rid of either Campana or Colvin was wrong, I'm not nearly enough of an expert to make that call, but I have grown to find it hard to trust this organization's ability to discern on way or the other.

                            Pads fan here...

I went to the Pads/Cubs game today in Peoria...

                            Some observations for Cubs fans..

Baez made an unbelievable play on a line drive up the middle. He must have jumped 6 feet in the air...

Soler looked overmatched by Richard... Where is he projected to play this year... AA?

Lillibridge played 1B and made some good defensive plays... Is he gonna be a utility guy for the major league team?

Obviously more highlights but these stood out...

Soler is most likely going to start in AA.

Baez is an elite athlete and could end up being an elite SS in the bigs.

When we brought Lillibridge on, no spot was guaranteed but his versatility could be valuable off the bench, and right now signs are pointing to him being a platoon guy at the ML level.
