Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
Just so you guys know:
Jesse Rogers was just on with Waddle and Silvy, and said he talked to "many scouts who think Addison Russell is better RIGHT NOW".
He also thinks there's a chance the Cubs trade Castro(and other parts of course) to the Phillies for Hamels as soon as Russell is ready.
Man, would that be sweet. Out with the bad, in with the good!
Let's go!!!Comment

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
So hold on...assuming Russell is ready next year.
You'd like to give up one of the best pure hitting SSs in baseball, 7 years the junior for Cole Hamels who is making over $20 million a year until like friggin 2020??
Instead of keeping one of the best contracts in baseball, and moving him or Russell to 2nd and having both of them on the team and instead signing one of the 10000 pitchers available in next years FA class??
Jesus lord I'm glad you don't run a baseball team. It'd be the Jim Hendry show all over again.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
This bad defense thing is such a casual viewers complaint at this point anyway. The last two years he has been solid with the glove. He gets to more baseballs than almost everyone in the league at the SS position and is near the top in put outs. His fielding percentage has improved every single year. You've been brainwashed by Brenly who for some reason had an Anti-Castro agenda while he was a broadcaster.
Enough talk of extra years and team-friendly contracts and ****.
I love how you act like finding a guy that has the ability to hit .300 + with some pop is just something that can be easily replaced and can be taken for granted. Apparently you forget the days of trotting out Ryan Theriot and Ronny Cedeno. Having a guy that can be dangerous at any spot in the lineup is also a luxury.
Oh yeah, and I almost forgot, HES 24 YEARS OLD!! STILL GETTING BETTER!Last edited by JODYE; 03-20-2015, 10:56 PM.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

After reading this article, it seems like Baez might start at AAA. He really needs to change it up.

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
Starlin has worked his way to a league average defensive player. He went from -15 Defensive Runs Saved in 2013 to 0 last year. He does still need to work on his focus pitch to pitch, but that can be said of most 24 year olds.
I would actually love to see him move to 2B, Russell to SS, Baez to 3B, and Bryant to OF, but I don't know the likelihood of that.Comment

"Castro Apologists". That's a term?
Not that hard to defend a guy that possesses as much talent as he does. Per usual, you find a marginal flaw and take it to the absolute extreme to justify your hatred.
Guy hasn't taken a single at bat in the bigs, but Russell is already worlds better than a guy who has made 3 all star teams and was the youngest player ever to lead the NL in hits. *TK Logic*
Par for the course I guess.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
This is just not my opinion. There are Major League scouts that are saying the same. His approach to the game SUCKS. He's LAZY AS ****. Yes, he can hit. And he can hit for average which the Cubs need. But there is someone better waiting in the wings. If you don't think Russell is or can be better, then you're not paying any attention.
Dude is 25 years old and he runs like my granddad. His feet are slow, and when he does in fact field it cleanly, there's a chance he'll throw it away. There's a reason Rizzo always shoots him dirty looks after a bull**** throw.
Brenly called him out. Buck Martinez called him out. Jim Deshaies called him out. AND...Len Kasper called him out. And when you get called out by Kasper of all people, something's really wrong. It took that game in Atlanta for Kasper to FINALLY say something about Zambrano. Now he did the same for Castro.
Some of you guys as Cubs fans are conditioned to 'settle'. STOP SETTLING for average garbage. This is a team on the rise. Let's start acting like it.
Okay, I'm done now. lolComment

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
What are you rambling about? Who are these scouts?
You know for a fact Russell is better because of what he has done at the minor league level? Even though Castro actually outperformed Russell at the plate in the minors at this stage lol Great logic there.
Noticed how many of the people you just mentioned actually managed Starlin? Oh that's right, none. Len Kasper? Seriously? Guy never played a day of competitive baseball in his life. Do you believe everything the media feeds to you?
And now you can interpret how people look at other people?
Everyone who has managed Castro sans Sveum (who completely lost the team) has raved about Castro's work ethic and motor to be great. Maddon has even made multiple comments about it this off season. It has been well documented that the last two years Castro has taken on extra hitting and fielding work in addition to club organized drills. But you certainly know more than them right?
You're seriously comparing the Zambrano situation to Castro? Zambrano was FIGHTING PEOPLE IN THE DUGOUT. But, not running out a routine ground ball every now and then is definitely much worse than that. How could I have been so blind?
'Conditioned to settle'. Wut? If settling for one of the best pure hitting middle infielders in the league is settling, then yes, I'm guilty.
If Castro is this bad, why would the Phillies even consider taking him for Hamels in the first place? You continue to talk yourself in circles and make zero sense while doing so.
Yes, please be done. Thanks in advance.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles
