Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
According to Kap on Twitter, Pedro Strop was involved in a car accident in the Dominican Republic. The article that I translated from Spanish doesn't say anything other than people were taken to the hospital.
Hoping that it's not too severe.Comment

Not that it needed to be said but Cubs inform teams that Castro is not available in any trade talks.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
Two years, $18M for Hammel. There's an option at the end with a $2M buyout, which Hammel can void (mutual option?), so it's really 2/$20 guaranteed.
Echoing what I said a few posts up, I'm excited to have Hammel back.

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
Just going to be interesting to see how they shift those guys around at the back end. Hammel adds to a crowded bunch of solid pitchers who pitched well at the end of the year.
Still would really to go out and get another front line guy. I like Arietta but I would feel more comfortable with another 1A in that rotation.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
So if we don't end up landing Lester, who should we go after? A FA like Scherzer or Shields, or one of the potential trade guys like Price, Hamels, Zimmerman, etc.
Or do we just stand pat with what we have and wait til next year?NFL: Bills

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
I'm content with us waiting until next offseason to sign a free agent like Zimmermann or Price (next tier would be Latos/Porcello, probably). I just don't see the point in trading away valuable guys for one year of control + an imminent extension when we can just wait a season and grab them, especially since we're just now saying that we're ready to compete. IMO, we're still at least a year off of those kinds of moves.
Also, I've completely given up on the chance of getting Hamels. Amaro is a moron, and until he's either not the GM or doesn't want three T25/50 prospects for Hamels, we're not going to touch him.Comment
