Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
If Montero's third, AND Fowler is fourth, this is probably just a one-off shakeup...for kicks, so to speak.
But, at this point, MOntero has to be in the top 4 of the order...
unless the idea is that he is the only one that can break up the black hole that is Castro-Soler-Coghlan...
with that in mind, I think they have to drop the Pitcher-batting-8th thing...with 4-7 being so anemic (with the exception of MOntero), there is all the more need to push the pitcher down and get Russell more involved in the back end of the order.
Break up C-S-C with Russell and Montero? Why not...?Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment

Agree with you on the roll over stuff. It's really odd but your golden boy also has had a bad night defensively.Wolverines Packers Cubs Celtics

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
I so badly want the Cubs to call up Baez, move Russell to SS, Castro to 3B, and Bryant to LF.
Every ball hit to Starlin and throw from Bryant terrifies me.Comment

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
Reason being that Baez, who was also a below average fielder looked good playing 2B last season.
Russell's error was also much more costly but of course it's Castro so, we know context will be ignored.
That said, I'm not opposed to moving Castro to 3rd if LaStella can ever get healthy. There really is nothing to lose by moving guys around.
I honestly hate being right about Castro. 4-23 with 2 outs and RISPCubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

LOL, you really love dude.
Honest question: if they trade him, would you be okay with that? Would you be okay, period? lol
I don't think Castro is meant for the hot corner. He has trouble reading ground balls and getting his proper footwork down as it is at short. It should be either LF or trade him. I have this feeling though if you move him to LF, you might get in his head and he'll actually regress.
Whatever the case may be, they cannot keep Baez down there for too long. Let him come up and figure it out. He's doing well enough to get the call up.Comment

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
Nah, I just don't have the obsessive need to pile on one guy when the team as a whole has struggled defensively and has shown the inability to drive in runs consistently.
It's not one guys fault, as much as you want to make everyone believe it is.
If they trade him, then so be it. Will I be disappointed? Sure. Because again , he is on a really team friendly deal and is still one of the best pure hitting players in the game when he is playing well. Since his debut, he leads the entire league in hits and he just turned 25. As much as we want to talk about youth on this team, he is still young himself with his best baseball still ahead of him. Unless you are getting a top tier prospect for him, then there is literally no reason to get rid of him other than having a personal agenda against him.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
The only questions defensively are at LF and SS.
Rizzo is outstanding. Addison and Bryant have only been in the league for 1 month, so they basically get a 'free pass', for now. But their effort on defense will NEVER be a question, and they both look the part. Soler and Fowler are doing really well in the outfield. Montero and Ross are solid.
That leaves LF and SS. We all know that LF will be addressed at some point in the near future. That's why there is such a target on Castro's back. He's been here for 5 years now, and it doesn't seem like he's getting better.
I'm a huge proponent of trading him because you'll get better defense at SS with Russell, at a fraction of the cost. His offense wouldn't be a significant drop-off either.
Just think of that up-the-middle defense with Russell and Baez! My God, I'm salivating just thinking about it.
Baez has also been playing 2B for the most part lately, so I wonder if that means a call up is coming soon.Comment

Man...the Cards' 5 games with Minnesota in a couple weeks will be big...
Cards get to see Milwaukee, Miami, Philly, and Colorado all kinda together...so the Twins series, given the timing, could be big for the Cubs...if Minnesota can win 4 of em. Pretty much the toughest team they'll face until the Dodgers and Cubs at the end of the month.
Cubs schedule isn't brutal, but still, a tough road...Tigers, Mets, Washington...
Cleveland is in there; hopefully the Cubs will miss Kluber. Need to be in decent position come the trip to StL.Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment
