How about Ham's catch last night? And a big win against those rascally Brewers.

Hope he's fine though. Seems like he's coming along.

EPIC. Of course Carlos Gomez makes an amazing catch... Just like it seemed like Jim Edmonds could make the HOF just on his career v Reds it seems like Gomez has that same magic when playing us.

        Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread

Looks like the injuries just keep coming for us unfortunately, cause Bruce has a torn meniscus. Saying 3 to 4 weeks, but with our idiot medical staff that might be 3 or 4 months

I know Dr Kremchek has always had a good reputation, but I dont have a lot of faith in our medical staff anymore. Seems we have what is said to be minor that leads to be more than that.

I use to think Jim Edmonds was just bashing the Reds medical staff because he was washed up and needed someone to blame, but after the whole Votto debacle I have started to change my mind about the medical staff.

Bruce injury is alot like Votto's from what I heard and while Vottos was suppose to be minor we know how long it took him to get back to being right. Heck some will say he still isnt back yet from it,lol. Hopefully Bruce is a quicker an better healer than Votto.

I know Bruce hadnt been doing much so far, but it was only a matter of time before he started to hit. He had gotten the nickname over at ther Reds Forums " May Bruce" because in May he looks like one of the best hitters in baseball each year and wins POM.

This is definitely another major blow as we have had more than our share this year with injuries, its amazing we have done as well as we have to date. I think Price and his coaching staff has done a pretty darn good job considering all the injuries so hopefully we can overcome Bruce's injury, and hopeful he comes back soon.

I feel the same way if this were to be true. However there are a lot of woman out there looking for ways to get rich and have a sick way of doing it. We see so many times with athletes having to go thru stuff like this, that you tend to think that the athlete is actually the victim in all of these cases. Atleast it hasnt effected his pitching with all this going on. TBH any woman that meets a guys at the bar whether it be a athlete or just a normal person should not be going anywhere with them, especially when there is alcohol and or drugs in theri system. Not saying its right to take advantage of them, but they are asking for it by leaving with them.

We really need either Heisey or Schumaker to step up in Bruce's absence. All things considered the start to the year hasn't been that bad. It could have been a lot worse. Didn't have our top 3 relievers, our ace & Mesoraco + key bench guys.

Thankfully Mes (when healthy) and Pena have raked, Cueto has been the best pitcher in baseball & Broxton has been great since coming back. Chapman coming back soon & possibly Latos should help the bullpen a lot.

3 of 4 from the best team in the NL? I will take that any day. That was a big series.

I didn't realize until you said it that we are without our co-ace (I'm going with that term because Cueto is en fuego currently), our probably best reliever/closer, Bruce now, the catcher we were handing the reigns over to, and other assorted guys.

I've said it before that I thought we'd be hanging around .500 and finish with 80 something wins, but we're ahead of schedule in my opinion with the way injuries have hit us from day 1. We gain back Latos, we gain back Chap, Mes, etc it's like adding a couple of really good ballplayers.

When the dust settles, it's gonna be us and STL fighting for this division. That's the saving grace, that STL has gotten off to a similar start. You have to think MIL comes back down to Earth (or maybe we brought them back!!).

Historically April has never been a great month for the Reds, so considering all our injuries I do think were in descent shape. It has helped that the Cards have had struggles so thats been a positive thing.

Like you said the Brewers will come back to earth and we might have helped with that, hopefully. I ddi think the Brewers would be the 3rd best team in the divison this eyar cause I thought the Pirates would drop some, they played over theri heads last eyar, kind of like we did in 2010.

Brewers will probably hang around and the Pirates wont be North Side Losers bad, but the division will be between us and the Cards once again when its all said and done more than likely.

We just got to find a way to stay healthy, we cant keep losing keys guys or its going to be a tough road to hold all season long. Hopefully we get them out of the way and then every one comes back healthy and stays that way. We definitely will need Bruce to be what he typically is along with Mez's offense, plus as good as the starting rotation has been we will need our 2nd ace is Latos to get back and be what he always is.

I was talking more from last years perspective but right now Cueto is our ace. It's funny because last year was the opposite, Cueto was our ace in 2012 but he got hurt & Latos became it. Now that Latos is hurt Cueto has regained his title as "ace" of this staff.
Latos coming back helps a lot obviously, but it's huge for the bullpen because it allows Simon to go back there where he has been so good for the Reds. It won't happen because of the $$ we are paying him, but if Simon keeps pitching well and Bailey struggles, he should be moved to the pen instead when Latos comes back.

I was looking at the WAR leaders and it's funny that Mesoraco is still in the top 20 for position players WAR despite having 75 less at bats than everyone ahead of him. That shows how well he was hitting. Hopefully he can return and continue to hit. The way Pena has been hitting as well it's gonna be tough to put him back on the bench when Mes gets back. Shame he can't play LF or something.

It was good to see Chapman come strolling out of the bullpen today and get 4 strikeouts (that walk was a strikeout Mr. Umpire). Couldn't imagine back when he got nailed that he would be doing that by Mother's Day.

Hopefully the bullpen will get back to being one of the best in the NL instead of currently the worst in the league.

How about Homer putting together a good one? Chap with another save, and I swear Frazier been hitting a homer every other game.

I actually really like Frazier, probably my second favorite on the team. I think he's a solid compliment to our Votto, Phillips, and Bruce core. I'd love to see him take the next step
