They can't risk offering it and him taking it. They don't need him next year.
Their rotation is set without him, they need to use that $14 million else where.
They have Latos, Cueto, Bailey, Leake, and Chapman set for next year.
Price and Walt want Chapman to start next year.

They were not going to offer Arroyo a qualifying offer for two reasons...

        1) They don't want to pay Arroyo $14.1 million next year.
        2) If they offered Arroyo and he declined, it would've drove his free agent value down as teams would balk at signing him at the risk of giving up compensatory picks.

So they kind of did Arroyo a favor by not offering him a qualifying offer.

Just couldnt afford him at that price if he should take them up on that offer. I cant imagine any team paying Bronson that, so we might be able to bring him back at a team friendly contract after he finds out what he might be worth to other teams.
Bronson has been great for us over his time here, and I will miss him if he is not back with us, which I doubt he will be with all the starters we have, on top of if Chapman goes to the rotation.
Were probably better off letting Arroyo go, as much as I will miss him, as he is one of my favorite Reds pitchers of all time. Bronson is probably better off going to a more pitcher friendly park at this stage of his career, and were better of having more power arms in our rotation with the hitter friendly park we play in. Having Leake in the rotation is enough soft tossers for my taste.
We need all the money freed up we can get to get Latos singed long term, as well as Homer depending on how bad Homer once to stay with the Reds. I think Latos once to stay here, so I dont see him being a issue getting singed and he bought a home in Cincinnati this summer and plans on staying there year round, so I think he isnt going anywhere. Homer on the other hand hasnt been too interested in signing long term as of yet anyway, and I have heard rumors he just might want to test FA, as some feel he would like to get back close to home with either the Rangers or Astros. Maybe with him being as close as he is with Bryan Price he might rethink that now Price is the manager. Personally while I would like to keep Homer after all the time it took to get his head out of his rear, Latos is the top priority. Personally I wouldnt mind seeing Cueto gone considering he breaks easier than glass, and I do think Stephenson will be a top of the rotation guy in time, but probably stillatleast a year away from the bigs.

I don't see anyway Chapman starts next year. He couldn't throw more than 120 innings if he did, and I'd be willing to bet those 120 innings wouldn't be nearly as good as what Cingrani gave us this year.

Cingrani will be the #5, Chapman will be the closer, and if Cueto stays healthy we will have one of the best rotations in baseball with Latos, Cueto, Bailey, Leake, and Cingrani.

Latos has better career numbers than Greinke I don't see anyway you get him to sign long term before he hits the open market. Latos is a 20 million per year starter I don't think the Reds can afford him.

They need to fit him in. He reminds me of Aaron Harang for the 5 or so year stretch he had on bad Reds teams where you penciled him in for a 3 something ERA and 200+ innings.

Shame he wasted away in Cincy.

We NEED Latos, maybe more then any other player on the team. He's a legitimate ace. I'd pay what it takes.

I don't think Chapman will work out as a starter. I would not mind trading him for a package of prospects to replenish the farm and set us up for the future (or for a win-now trade). We can plug and play as a closer. I love Chapman's mental intimidation, but he's not untouchable as a closer. He blows saves just like any other closer. The older he gets, the more tape teams get on him, the less he can rely on that triple digit fastball. Sell high.

All i know is both Walt and Price were adament on starting Chapman last year.
The only reason they didnt start him is because Dusty was against it, i really dont think they care what Dusty thinks now! lol
I wish i could find it but C. Trent wrote an article last year during Spring Training about how good of a Starting Pitcher that Price thought Chapman would be.

I think Latos wants to be in Cincinnati, so thats a + for us, and I will be surprised if we arent able to sign him long term.

Yep. as much as I like Arroyo, it was the right move not to offer him. Obviously they were going too offer Choo, cause its a win win either way for us.

So it looks like BP will never wear a Reds uniform again.
Multiple sources are reporting he will be traded this off season.
I have even heard he has been told not to come to Reds fest.
On sports talk last night they were saying Walt doesnt think BP is a team player and that Dusty covered for him way too much the last few years.
It will be interesting to see what they get for him.
I am very mixed on what they should do with him.

In the same boat. Really like him as a person, think he's the best defensive second baseman in baseball, but wonder about some other things with him. If they are going to trade him, which it sounds like could be within a week, I hope they get some major league-ready pieces, or at least one. Walt has a lot of work to do.
