Re: **The Official New York Yankees Thread**
I agree. They should have passed on on Ellsbury and McCann and just given Cano what he wanted. I'll never understand why they gave a huge contract with 7 years on it to a guy who's biggest asset is arguably speed, espeacilly an injury prone guy. Even though it's unlikely Cano will still be out there manning 2B in the final years of his deal with Seattle I'm willing to bet he ages better then Ellsbury does. Plus Cano would probaly perform better in his later years even if only slightly better in his later years in Yankee Stadium too. I would prefer to still have Cano around right now and for years to come then Ellsbury and McCann. McCann's deal isn't too bad years wise but it's still big money. I would have been fine with them letting Cano walk because they were trying to avoid big long contracts but then they go sign Ellsbury and McCann? Makes no sense.
Ellsbury was dumb. Speed guys do not age well especially injury prone ones. Keeping Granderson would have been better.
While I thought Cano wanted much too much money it would have been better to have thrown the money his way.
CC? A couple of good years and that was all she wrote. I would have let him walk.
The NE Patriots do it the right way. Better a year too early than late.Comment

Re: **The Official New York Yankees Thread**
Severino will likely and better be added to the 40 man on September 1st. Stick him in the pen for the rest of the year, No way in hell he could be any worse then Yates, Parker, Swarzak etc..
Goody
Shreve
Heller
Severino
Warren
Clippard
Betances
Nothing special, but seems decent enough.

Re: **The Official New York Yankees Thread**
Don't care about our bullpen at this point, this team is a ton of fun to watch but it's peak has been hit. We aren't going anywhere. We need to be making decisions for next year and beyond.
If Severino got sent down to work on his change up, I really hope he suddenly has it. They scratched his start yesterday and I'm not sure what to make of it. He's already on the 40 man, so they could've called him up already. Maybe they plan to bring him back up as a starter? I'd rather that, I have no interest in seeing him in the bullpen. If he goes out and throws nothing but fastballs and sliders, which he would only have to in the pen, then demoting him was pointless and his development will probably slip.
We'll see. I've got my 62 Joba jersey at the ready to wipe my tears away. Seems like they're ****ing another one up.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: **The Official New York Yankees Thread**
I see it in a different light, stick him in the pen for the stretch drive. Let him gain some confidence back. He's got all offseason, and spring training to work on his change.
I'm not even thinking about Sev being a starter right now, he might thrive in the pen, and that could be huge going forward.

Re: **The Official New York Yankees Thread**
This season has taught me how little relievers mean and how volatile they are. We had the best reliever in the league, doing his job day in and day out and it just didn't matter, the impact a starter has is way bigger. We can always find a bullpen guy, and if we do, what's it even mean. Shreve was Billy freaking Wagner for the first half of last season, and then just fell off a cliff and forgot how to pitch.
I'm so sick of watching dudes go out every day that I have little to no confidence in. Tanaka is the only guy in our rotation that I believe will get us where we need to get to on any given day. It's almost more of just orgazational fatigue and like I said, looking at my old Joba jersey and remembering thinking he was going to be Mariano, then he wasn't, and it didn't even matter because Houdini came out of nowhere and took over the closer role. Im much more confident that they can find a random reliever and turn him into a star than I am that they'll find a young decent starter. Hopefully Severino can be that. I think a problem with waiting until the off-season is that he really needs to be using the change against live hitters. Even if they swap his role out kinda like they've done with Dillon tate, intending to groom his as a starter but keeping him in the pen to use every couple of days and get some live work in. Maybe he'll play in a winter league.
Like I said we'll see. I'd just like to see more of a plan. If they sent him down to work on his change up, I don't want to hear that they're calling him up now at the end of a lost season when he could be improving in the minors. I don't understand the purpose of the call up basically. What's the point?Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Agreed. Like you said, Joba they bounced around back and forth. Hughes too. Hughes was actually very similar when he got called up the book was he still needed to work on his change. But they kept rushing him up, they put him in the pen in 09, and that was a good move it helped us win a world series, but he never really developed.
Rather they completely focus on development down the stretch. If its enough to sneak into the playoffs great, but that shouldn't be the focus.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: **The Official New York Yankees Thread**
Traded Ben Gamel, 24 year old AAA OF, to the Mariners to for 2 Rookie Ball pitchers.
He just won MVP of the International League with a .308/.365/.420 line. Not a huge deal IMO, there wasn't any room in our outfield. They probably still need to move Gardner (as sad as that makes me) to clear things up a little more because Ellsbury is probably unmovable. We've got a ton of talent in the outfield in our system.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: **The Official New York Yankees Thread**
The only thing I was happy about for the last month was that I could see how good our team could be in a few years and now the Red Sox have just made it so everyday I'm going to see how good our team should've been. There's no happiness in this life. Watch Yoan go full Gary in September. Everything we have they have more of, it's just infuriating. We've got a few great 24 year old prospects, they've already got a few great 23 year old stars. We get a cheating DH who can't hit and everyone hates, they get a cheating DH who can and people love. Re: **The Official New York Yankees Thread**
I may be in the minority on here but I believe Severino could find himself a niche in that pen, if he can't put it together as a starter, time will tell. But yea those Yates and Goody guys are freaking awful.
Hopefully Green is ok, but I'm not holding my breath.Comment
