Re: NBA 2K16 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread

Have anyone gotten the alley-oop pass to sit consistently? I'm having HUGE problems making the pass even with a full playmaking bar (I'm a C/PF).

19 out of 20 times I either throw a cross-court pass or a low flaccid one usually picked up easily by the defender. I absolutely loathe the passing mechanics this year as I feel I have little control of what kind of pass I make, but something good has come out of it as I'm being forced to learn icon passing (but that takes away the passing options). Self-alleys are impossible as I always throws it backwards, but I can pretend it's because I'm a big man.

is the point of hard hedge to stop the ball carrier on pnrs?

It's designed to do one of two things...

              1) Make the ball handler go very wide (or high) over the screen so it gives time for the defensive guard to recover and prevents the ball handler from coming cleanly off the screen with a head of steam.

              2) An amazing hard hedge will force the ball handler to either pick up his dribble or turn and go in the opposite direction. That's less common at the NBA level but you see it more frequently in college where ball handlers aren't as skilled.

Typically you do hard hedge against your better PnR threats and guys who can shoot.

Pay attention to the defender and try not to over dribble. You're looking for them to "Bite" on something. So say you do a left to right cross, Jamal Crawford in and out, spin back to the left.

If they make a move in a direction, LS+Turbo to explode the other way. You're looking for subtleties, but everyone I've seen tends to just jam the dribble stick every way possible expecting the defender to leap 20 feet in a direction. You need to pay attention to the angle they defend at, their feet, and body position.

It's possible to explode by a guy without a single dribble move, but they need to be shading you incorrectly and be positioned poorly.

This happens in game, but again, no one notices because they usually do inefficient moves, so they miss the launch windows because they are over thinking or over doing it

to add on, release turbo once explode. tab turbo+LS to nonball hand again to change direction. make sure u and the defender got sufficient space. else, ball will hit the leg and make u lose the ball ..

I have the most success blowing by poorly position defenders. The jab step works on occasion. The CPU never seems to bite on any of my moves. About the only "move" I can get to work is attempting to drive and spinning off the cut off attempt. Rarely works though. When motion cuts don't provide a good shot, I end up throwing up something contested.

Probably my lack of skill, but the manual moves (crosses, spins, behind the back) don't seem to effect the defender much. Without last year's escape dribbles, the CPU just watches me until I decide to drive. The size ups seem to be much more effective. I just don't enjoy watching automated animations, so I don't use them much.

Work in and out of the size ups. You can do normal dribbles between them. What you're looking for is a subtle movement. Not a huge bite, but maybe a small shuffle in a direction, or a switch in stance. The drive to spin is effective, but I've gotten "Blow bys" out of normal moves. It's a lot less noticeable when the signal to go is this year, particularly because of the defense.

It won't happen every possession, but you'll start seeing it the more you start looking for it

Can somebody please, please teach me how to throw alley-oops?

I am sick and tired of the mechanics this year, my player REFUSES to throw them consistently. The game is happy to oblige when there's a defender present, doesn't matter if it's a guard, when it can and will intercept. While wide open it either passes way over the player or throws a regular pass 9 out ouf 10 times. I damned myself that I should get it right one game, but gave up after 12 turnovers. With max playmaking.

It sometimes starts out well when you begin a new career (you can even throw self-oops), but as the career progresses it becomes impossible. And I've tried everything, fast taps, slow taps, stick forwards, backwards, towards player, towards basket, towards Mecca, nothing works. It only works in stints.

When the manual clearly states double tap to oop, then the player should bloody well throw an oop. What NBA level player can't throw a 15-25 ft pass somewhat in proximity of the receiver? What the hell am I doing wrong? Any help will be greatly rewarded (spiritually).

Suggestions: Try not to throw them in traffic. There were updates that upped alley defense this year.

If you're on the break make sure the angle is good. I try to avoid throwing any alley in a straight line with the recipient. It's a horrible angle in real life, and it fails more often then not in game. Also, try throwing them out of a lay up. Use the lay up gather to draw the defender in, and alley out of it (Fun fact, you can MURDER squads on the park with this trick. No one throws them out of lay ups).

I think I got what works, I just don't enjoy using the size ups because of the automated animations. But they create more lateral movement from the ballhandler and in turn more reaction from the defender. I sometimes lean on them at the end of the shot clock at the end of games.

I am looking for subtle reactions, I'm just not seeing them when using the normal dribble moves, unless coupled with LS movement. And it seems to be the LS movement getting the reaction. With no escape dribbles available, the ball handler doesn't move much.

I should've also mentioned that I never get the ball handler to explode the way the CPU explodes pass me. I have yet to learn where the launch points are. That may be my biggest problem.

You can also get old escape style dribbles by trying 2 sig. Size ups in the same direction.

For example, if you do the command for the signature in and out, and then do it again as soon as the animation starts, you'll get the old hesitation escape. It's programmed that way to prevent size up spamming
