Short and simple. Normally Porzingis is the type of player you build your franchise around, but clearly Porzingis is not happy in New York. They can completely wash their hands of this horrible year by trading away Carmelo, letting Rose walk and packaging Noah with Melo and possibly a pick. The Heat (that'd be me) get a second stud in the forward spot to replace Bosh.

What do you guys think?

My starting lineup would then looking something like:
???, Waiters, Wiggins, Porzingis, Whiteside

Porzingus is kind of a projected star on a cheap contract in the league, he's probably worth more than the 1st overall at this point. More like the 1st overall plus another prospect that's at least going to be a good NBA starter, plus a combination of future picks or role players.

What if I tossed in Tyler Johnson? This would be after a Melo/Noah trade, so they've freed up plenty of cap, and they have a dearth of guards. I could also toss in Rodney McGruder and, say, a future 2nd?

So it would look like:

Knicks Receive: 2017 1st Overall Pick, Tyler Johnson, Rodney McGruder, 2020 2nd Round Pick

What if I tossed in Tyler Johnson? This would be after a Melo/Noah trade, so they've freed up plenty of cap, and they have a dearth of guards. I could also toss in Rodney McGruder and, say, a future 2nd?

So it would look like:

This is more reasonable. The first overall and Tyler Johnson, Knicks needing a PG. and then another prospect and future pick. A little cheap but factoring in the 1st pick and the fact that the Knicks are blowing up and I think it's passable.

Rockets Receive: Goran Dragic

I need to downgrade at the PG spot because, despite how much I love the Dragon, he's a ball-dominant guard and I'm going to be running this hypothetical offense through Wiggins and Porzingas in the frontcourt, so a good defensive anchor and pass first floor general is much better fit, and reduces my salary. I'll also get a decent backup 3 and a low pick.

Hey guys, I got the 2 over all pick in the 2018 class ( nets , Butler Trade ) and 6 ( Bulls, Tanked lol )

Who is the better prospect to pick??? I haven't looked into any of them! I need all roles but PG!

Next to Harden he(Beverely) is significantly better, next to Harden and with Williams and Gordon coming off the bench then it nearly doubles even more. You only need so many offensive minded 2 guards and point guards, Dragic would be a decent two/shooter to pair with harden, but Gordon does that job offensively just as well, and Beverely brings that defensive mix that no one out of all those mentioned do.

Pacers get a lot younger and free up a lot of cap, OKC gets the star to pair with Westbrook, can move Oladipo to the sixth man and start Robertson at the 2 guard again.

Hornets get a potential star scoring big, albeit with defeciences on the defensive end. Only question is are the Hornets getting too much for too little? Williams is kinda meh and expensive, Lamb is more of a rotation player. Should the Hornets give up more?

McDermott can't even get playing time for OKC, Jeremy Lamb is barely a starter on the Hornets , if your trading a Top 15 player in the league you either want at least 2 starting caliber players, multiple 1st rounders, multiple high end prospects or a combination of these.
Considering that OKC will have Westbrook and George they will probably make the playoffs. That unprotected 1st rounder would be at best the 16th pick and the Hornets pick is top 10 protected, personally i think the Pacers need to get a lot more picks

Demarcus Cousins...Hield and unprotected 1st and ****.
Kevin love...Wiggins and Thaddeus young.
Pau Gaso, two 1sts and Kwame Brown.

My trade is meh by all means. But multiple starters and 1sts are really unhistorically by all accounts I feel. Really only the knicks have gone that far and it failed them miserably.
Anyway, issue with the hornets is that They are trading for Kanter who Isn't that valuable. Defensive issues make him a 15-20 min role player on any good team with championship aspirations, so lamb a protected 1st and Williams is easily fair for him. They y just all go to the pacers...maybe flip olasipo with McDermott and a 2019 unprotected 1st from Okc? But then like I said with starts and 1sts, that feels like too much for George, who they could make a run for in free agency already...Kanter will be off the books by then depending on if he picks up the player option, of which then OKC could feasibly go after George with a fully loaded contract.

Can someone point me to a manual about trading with picks? When I offer I can see options like unprotected, swap worst, swap best -- what are these things?

Unprotected is the pick will go to the other team no matter where it lands

Swap best /worst is one team will get the better of the picks

Top 3 or 5 protected - if you receive a pick that says this and it lands at 5 you don't get it if it lands at 6 you do.

The lottery is the top 14 teams (that didn't make the playoffs)
