Re: Official NBA 2k18 MyCareer Thread

    I'm curious...

Those of you that stayed with your original team after your first season, do you still get the cut scenes with Shammy and still sit by him in the locker room before and after every game?

I did leave my original team (Bucks) after year one. As a playmaking PG I just got sick of Greg Monroe and Jabari Parker getting so many shots swatted or going up with weak, half-hearted layup attempts when I'd dish to them on the pick-n-roll. And the floor spacing was pretty bad, too, because Giannis would be wide-open in the corner 75% of the time if I pick-n-rolled because his man sagged in so far and he'd just hold the ball.

Anyway, I went to the Pelicans to play with AD and Boogie which has been better. It's still fairly frustrating, though, because even those two blow good looks or get shots swatted more often than you'd think. It doesn't help that my bleeping SG is Andre Roberson (zero floor spacing) and my starting SF is Solomon Hill. So I have two elite bigs for my pick-n-roll game but my wings consist of one craptastic 3P shooter and one marginally decent 3P shooter.

Re: Official NBA 2k18 MyCareer Thread

That sounds like it’d suit me pretty well because even though we have terrific spacing (Paul, Harden, Anderson and occasionally myself) were way up on the rest of the league for PIP.

I struggled big time early on with Houston, at one point we’d gone from 6-1 to 17-18 but right now, we’re 5th in the West with a 42-24 record. Harden is still our best scorer, averaging 29 a night, mostly because he’s not relied upon to assist anymore. Neither is Paul really because I get the majority of our assists and the other two can shoot and drive off my passes. I’m only averaging 6.3 assists per game but in March, in 8 games, I’m averaging 9.4 assists to go with 27.9 points and 11.9 rebounds.

I’m having a good year personally. 23.7 points, 11.4 rebounds and 6.3 assists plus 0.8 blocks and steals. Shooting 58%, 37% from 3 and 83% from free throws. Top 15 in scoring, rebounds and assists. I’m apparently fifth in the MVP race although Harden isn’t, which I don’t get as he has literally carried us to some wins. First in MIP because I’ve raised my averages by 15 points, five rebounds and two assists.

As I said, were 42-24 on the season. 6th best offense, 12th best defense. Were the best shooting team in the league from the field, from 3 and from the line. 7th in rebounding mostly from Capela being dominant on the offensive boards and forcing a lot of misses inside the paint for opposing bigs. We’re averaging 25 assists a game which is 5th in the league. We give the ball away the least in the league and are also the best on the fast break and we rack up 48 points in the paint which is top of the league by almost ten points. We have the second worst bench in the league behind the Warriors and were the worst team in the league defending the 3. Were also third last in pace which is strange for a D’Antoni team but the Warriors and Cavs are also in the bottom five so I guess it’s just a 2K thing. As long as we make those possessions count I don’t care.

The first part of your question I asked the same and basically if you resign with your team, I think shammy may still be there after the games in the locker room but I don’t believe there are any cut scenes between u and him or anyone else during the second season. Maybe post game interviews at most which is better than when u sign with a new team, where after the game he just skips thru the tunnel by himself with no dialogue and sits in the locker room alone lol. I don’t think there are any post game interviews because the very first player I created when the game released, I played the first 15 games but I️ wasn’t satisfied with the build (this was also before 2k tweaked the shooting and layups bc my numbers were atrocious smh) I️ simmed the first season and ended up winning ROY and MVP with the Bulls. I️ signed with the cavs in the offseason after losing in the first round. I️ created a second build and I’m satisfied with it but it’s just that we really suck lol. I’m currently now with the Bulls and really trying to find a team to play in besides the warriors and cavs. I’m not sure which team I should go to now because there is no way I’m making the playoffs with the bulks. We blow huge leads, like 25-30 pt leads. It’s crazy lol. I’ll get subbed out and when up by as my as 20+ and somehow when I’m back in the floor my opponent has brought the game back within 12 points. Always happens in the second half too. I don’t have many good shooters besides mirotic (very streaky) Lavine and zipser. Everyone else, especially Justin holiday, bricks open shots every single time it’s not even funny how many open shots this dude misses. My main goal was that when I got to 90 overall I was gonna request to trade him. I’ll literally take anyone lol. I’m gonna create a new player but before I do that I have to decide which team I’m gonna play for.

From the jump you can upgrade to 85 by filling up all the yellow caps. 85 Is basically what your player type will accomplish with every subsequent upgrade towards the white caps being relatively minor. White caps are from leveling up via the OVR system which takes everything you do in the game and assigns pts to it. Every time you level the bar to 100% it reveals new attributes to upgrade(adding more yellow caps) until all the white caps are unlocked. White caps are what your archetype can do at max capacity. You need VC to upgrade these caps. It takes about 180,000-200,000 VC to get your OVR to 85.

If you are coming from 2K17 then what I'm saying is everything is integrated. Your rep from 2K17 is linked to your overall and vice versa. To facilitate this everything in MyCareer(ProAM, Park, the NBA MyCareer experience) is linked so whatever you do(shoot 3's, dish assists, grab rebounds, etc) in these modes to help your badge progress or rep from those modes helps to upgrade your overall.

Does anyone else have issues making 3's that aren't perfect releases? I've got my 3pt shooting up to 80 and all of the bronze badges for a playmaker/sharpshooter but I shoot terribly unless I hit it perfect. Even in the gym I shoot around 20% on good releases.

Am I doing something wrong or am supposed to just be better at getting perfect releases?

Love was CLUTCH against the Pistons. Knocked down a 3 to tie the game and send it to overtime, then hit 3 triples in OT to seal the game for us. Was great to see teammates converting on wide open looks for once.

They've tweaked the shot feedback system.

People felt Good releases didn't give the proper percentages(though they did under the hood per NBA2KLab's video) so they made most of your perfectly timed releases that weren't green slightly early or slightly late. I think they also tweaked shooting a bit after this.

Make sure you feel comfortable about your release point and disregard the shot meter and the release feedback(only the contested part matters). Get your badges as fast as you can as they will bail you out on grey areas.

I've stayed, and the cutscenes dry up regardless of what team you're on in the 2nd season.

I have a career with the Bucks, a 6'4 slashing primary, playmaking secondary. I'm currently 2-0 up against the rockets in the finals. I struggled with them to begin with until I figured something absolutely ridiculous out; you have to ignore Giannis unless you're on a fast break. Play 5 out (which is actually 4 out 1 in these days.

Once you beat your defender you should have a clear run at the rim, if the defender guarding Monroe comes at you, oop it to monroe, if one of the defenders comes in off the wing to stop you, kick it out to Jabari or Maker, who've both been absolutely sensational for me knocking down corner 3's and that's on HoF, you also have Middleton, Brogdon, and Shammy who all knock down their fair share.

The problems come when no one challenges you in this position. It's ok for this build because I'll just hit a floater or dunk on someone, but I also have a pure playmaker on the wolves, and then just having someone close to me when I go up for a layup makes it a 30% shot at best.

I'm trying to get Cousins, KD, and KAT in the offseason to the bucks, and if I get all of them, then Giannis will be coming off the bench. He's a really disappointing representation of himself ingame. He must be hard to program, but the infuriating pull up 3's he takes with an open lane just kills me. Occasionally, he'll get the ball and just go and end someones life who's standing under the rim, and I'm reminded how good this player would be if they could stop his shots and get him driving consistently.

I was pleasantly surprised at the last two MyCareer games I played being polar opposites. The first one was against Memphis, and the game ended 83-78. The very next game against the Cavs, we had 109 before the 4th quarter. I really struggled to score against Mike Conley Jr., scoring 22 points with 23 FGA, while being able to abuse IT on the offensive end and having 24 points by halftime. Unfortunately, we lost them both.

Did they mess with shooting again? Haven’t played in a while and I’m back to essentially driving to the hole every play because my guy who is an 85 can’t hit anything but a perfect release. No sense on the gamble really when I can just drive and score or get fouled every time. Killing this game for me. Close to putting it down for good except for the occasional head to head with company.

Edit: not even considering I all of the sudden can’t buy a win in mycareer. No idea what is going on.

I started a career, but I think I'm going to wait and restart it. Mainly because the prospect of a trade involving DeAndre Jordan and Marc Gasol(not including Jahlil Okafor because not likely to happen). I want my season to reflect the real life as close as possible, even if CPU makes trades. Past years, I start a career quick and a major trade occurs and takes immersion out of current career. Gasol seems more likely because of Grizzlies is more chance to accept rebuilding stage compared to Doc Rivers/Clippers.

I created a 6'11 270 Rim Protecting Shot Creator Center. I like the Shot Creator for Center because it gives you decent Mid Range, Post, Ball Handle, and Layup/Dunk. I want to play for the Bucks. It would be a good athletic team. But I don't want to really start until I'm sure no trade is likely to happen in real life within a couple weeks. I just got 2k18, but I have been using the MyNBA2k app since its release. So, I got over 57K VC saved up. I checked, It will get me up to 70 OVR and to focus on main ratings. So, I don't want to use any until I'm certain I wouldn't want to restart my career.
