This is what ive been trying to figure out. (Mainly because i grew up idolizing him and modeled my entire game after him, i still remember how excited i was when he got his live cover)

Im gonna have to disagree with post scoring defender. KG had the athleticism and skill to guard 1-5 and play 3-5.

So hes a defender right? But wait - He had the same number of seasons averaging 6 assists as he did averaging 2 blocks.

Okay so a playmaker? Well he probably has more infamous 'brick wall' highlights than Ben Wallace, and he led the league in rebounding for most of the early aughts.

Alright well then hes a rebounder? Well he scored 20-25 pts a game for most of his career, milking that baseline turnaround, or yamming all over some poor traditional pf with a baseline reverse.

Yes he worked out of the post, but that had more to do with an NBA that didnt understand what to do with a unicorn before the term unicorn even existed (he refused to be listed at his real height for exactly that reason). There are very few people that will point to his post move repertoire as his calling card, in fact the biggest hole in his game was probably his ability to get a bucket on the block when his team needed it. He scored because he was a walking mismatch - too fast and skilled for big men to cover and too big and strong for wings to slide down.

I guess if you are referencing his one good year in boston pre-injury you could make the post scoring defender argument. But KG in his prime? Thats a real conundrum. Heck, he even shot 37% from 3 on 1 attempt per game early in his career! Right now im leaning towards shot creating rebounder - it seems to offer the closest thing to the versatility and athleticism needed to replicate what he did on the court night and night out.

(Sorry for the rant i just couldnt let one of the most underrated players in nba history be reduced to a guy who protected the rim and scored on the block here and there - ask any of the 'unicorns' in the league today who they modeled their game after and almost everyone of them will say KG)

Re: Assuming archetypes are similar in 2k19, what you making?

I had a 6'7" pure playmaker in 2K18, which was an absolute assassin. Matchup nightmare for sure.

He was like the best parts of prime Penny, prime Odom, Jamal Crawford, with some Kyrie mixed in.

      Pros:

It was basically "pick your poison" every time I touched the ball. I'm going to either break you down and hit a nice open jumper, or draw the help and hit a teammate with a pinpoint dime. Only archs that could really slow me down were some locks and taller wings, but that really depended on if the user was any good on defense. If not, he was cooked more often than not. Even if they did manage to limit my scoring, I'll get everybody else involved pretty easily.

I have plenty of highlight tapes. That was a really fun build.

      <div style="width:100%;height:0px;position:relative;pad ding-bottom:56.250%;"><iframe src="https://streamable.com/s/9qo2a/nhujnw" frameborder="0" width="100%" height="100%" allowfullscreen style="width:100%;height:100%;position:absolute;le ft:0px;top:0px;overflow:hidden;"></iframe></div>

      Cons:

The shooting is not good at all. I survived on really good shot timing, shot selection, spacing, hot spots, and sometimes boosts. But fresh out of the package? Shooting is real suspect and I struggled early on. Once I badged up and did some of the other things I mentioned, it was a lot better. Streaky, but a lot better. You're going to struggle with shooting when the game first comes out.

The layups were suspect also. Which was frustrating because I can create all of this space only to miss the finish. That's supposedly improved for 19, but I don't know. You damn near have to be completely alone to hit layups in 18. Even if a big is standing near you it's almost like the game is considering that a contested look for some reason. Forget dunking too except for real basic dunks on the break or if you can find a sliver of daylight.

With how it's looking right now, I want to keep a playmaking focus but add a shooting secondary because I'm really over the shooting struggle at this point. I'm still undecided.

I see a lot of people on social media all of sudden want to make pure playmakers now since 2K took away HOF ankle breaker for shot creating playmakers. All they care about is getting that badge, but they're going to be in for a rude awakening when they can't shoot (it takes a lot of skill to be a scoring threat as a pure play) and are forced to actually pass.

Still no real infos on lockdowns...kinda interested in the sharp slash now though, anybody have insight on that? Its cool that they are giving slashers/athletic better defensive badges. They were always better in terms of stats compared to other archetypes and now they got the badges to back it up.

Which build do you guys think would be closest to Jonathan Isaac off the Magic? He was a beast in play now online last year and I think it would be super fun to play like him this year for park.

They really brought down the defense and finishing for Playmakers and Sharpshooters, Pure Playmakers only get Bronze Acrobat, Relentless and Tear Dropper now, alot of Playmaker and Sharpshooting builds don't get Defensive Stopper at all.

Really only useful if you mess up your first build . Feel like you’ll know way before 92 if you like that build

I usually stick with one because I don't have time to make multiples. I really research before I make my decision so I haven't been completely disappointed yet.

But if they are basically going to give me another free build maxed to 92 already, no way I'm saying no to that.

It's a real good and fair idea.

I'm leaning towards Two-Way Sharp or Two Way Slasher. Will do a Defensive primary. The 3 & D build has 23 badges, good athleticism, and what looks to be 77-82 3pt/Mid. Two-way slasher has 19 badges(4 HOF), Elite/Maxed athleticism, better defense, and what looks to have 89/90 dunk. 3&D is what I want to do, but Two-Way Slasher seems more fun and better right away. Leaning towards the Slasher. Only will do a 3 & D if it has a max 3pt over 80. And with the uncertainty of cap breakers, don't want to wait until I am over 94 to get to maxed 3pt.
