You'll still see some slashers/athletic finishers in the rec center, but that's just because most of the people in there don't know any better and are still trying to play this game like it was 2K18 back when athletic finishers were unstoppable inside. Whenever I see someone with an awful win/loss record in rec, it's usually some sort of slasher/athletic finisher. Those two archetypes have gone extinct this year in team pro am because of how easy it is to contest layups and dunks into misses compared to how hard it is to contest jump shots into misses. The only things slashers/athletics are good for in 2K19 are alley oops and takeover cheese. And there are so many other superior archetypes who can consistently catch alley oops that the takeover cheese is really slashers'/athletics' only selling point.

I'm certainly not trying to question your expertise, but I want to bring up a point. I watch arguably the best Pro-AM team when Dimez steams on Twitch and they run a pure glass cleaner at center. Is that because they're an organized team and they need that? I've seen pure glass cleaners being able to hit mid range jumpers and even corner 3's with boost. I believe Tyceno uploaded a YouTube video a few days ago with his pure glass cleaner friend he always plays with and the video was focused on how great the glass cleaner was.
Glass cleaners are only great at two things: screening and rebounding. And there are other archetypes who screen just as well as glass cleaners (post scorers & rim protectors) who can give you a lot more options on offense or defense than a glass cleaner does.

As soon as you play a team that knows how to switch or rotate during pick and rolls, a glass cleaner becomes a useless player on offense, because he isn't able to do anything as long as there's a defender staying between him and the basket. It's also tough for glass cleaners to do anything on defense aside from standing in the paint like a statue due to their lack of athleticism and inability to cover very much floor space.

It's just not worth the extra 3 or 4 rebounds a game to make a character that's so slow on defense and so unskilled on offense. At least go sharp rebounder or rebounding post scorer if you absolutely insist on putting rebounding in your build so that you can contribute something on offense besides screens and dunks. The sharp rebounder can at least space the floor for your teammates, and the rebounding post scorer does have effective back to the basket moves.

i might go back to playing in post im thinking about a shot creating post scorer
7'0" shot post PF and 7'3" pure post C are the best builds for that IMO

You'll need the hall of fame post badges to combat the silver defensive stopper that all those glass cleaners have. And you'll need the maxed out height to shoot and finish over contests with as little penalty as possible.

Sorry I read over the "pro am" but yeah its only for rec from my experience. And yeah most are bad players and im pretty sure those were all made directly after release when people thought slashing bigs are still op like in 2k18...

Yeah my experience doesn’t really mirror jyoung’s. I agree that GC’s are easy to defend one on one. I just don’t think great teams need them to score many points when they have 4 other better scoring options. It also depends what mode you play. In team pro am, it’ll be harder to score as a GC against organized defense that switches effectively. But in Rec, you’ll find your openings as long as your team has some spacing. It’s also stupid easy to trigger takeover on rebounding builds so that will help you get some favourable animations in the paint. Most of the better pro am teams I’ve seen do feature a GC at the 5.

I also don’t think having Athletic Finisher in your build is as bad as some make it out to be. A lot of Centers try to play it like last year. Max size, strafe in and out of the paint while trying to trigger standing dunks. That doesn’t work anymore. Going max size also nerfs a lot of the statistical advantages you get from being an AF - vert and speed. Knock a few inches and a few pounds off and it becomes a lot more viable. Your vert and speed help maintain your rebounding and also allow you to get out on the fast break. You can also DRIVE in from the perimeter instead of just floating in and out of the paint. I won’t pretend it’s the optimal build, nor would I likely recommend it. But it’s not a train wreck if played smartly.

I might have to give up on the dream of hitting 95 with my rebounding rim protector. Most of my regular buddies stopped playing and I often find myself having to use a point guard because nobody else has one or the ones that do, aren't so comfortable running it

My 6'9" 258lb sharpshooting athletic finisher is really the jack of all trade builds, I can legitimately play and guard 2-5, and could even run point in a pinch. The build isnt as good in park, but in pro am I'm an absolute game changer. I've been winning at an 80% clip over the last month running almost exclusively with randoms

Been having this problem too but with no C. I usually only play at night PST and people that still plays are PG's-SF's, so I'm forced to run my 6'10 shot sharp against other bigs.

How you like it so far? I love to take people off the dribble and shoot a mid range. Is this build good at that?
