Re: NBA 2K24 Gameplay Videos
The animations are 99% the same as last year.
What a joke.
'Visual Concepts' used to be ahead of everyone. Not just sports games.
Now we have 2K looking almost a generation behind in human models and animation.
It's just so stiff. Players slide, they move on a clear axis and other than long, canned animations simply do not look lifelike.
Where we have tech in non sports games reaching incredible heights, 2K hasn't evolved simply because most of their time and effort goes into monetization.
Such a shame.
This is far from true.

Jerseymade93 with the broadcast video. The sequence starting at 4:20 looks crazy. Steph gives a dribble handoff to Dray who passes to Klay, and then sets a quick pin down for Steph.Comment

Re: NBA 2K24 Gameplay Videos
They re did them for 2k18 after all the complaints from 2k17. I remember because that was the year you either looked like a cracked out high schooler or had the barrel chest with crazy traps. It's crazy how they haven't really figured out bodies yet. The move to this gen should've been when they worked on player skeletons to keep up with the fidelity increase.Comment

Re: NBA 2K24 Gameplay Videos
A classic videogame by the name of Tecmo Super Bowl had these 35 years ago. It went by the name of cinema screens and it would be triggered by close plays. I loved it as it added to the excitement of the gameplay. I never understood why it hasn't been added to modern games. Even Double Dribble had a form of it. Sports games can learn from classic games of the past that were fun, addicting, and exciting to play. Modern games are stale and boring particularly the football genre and still has lots of room to improve in the gameplay and presentation department.
Player ratings that mattered, cut scenes, differences between good and average players. Immersion. The games of yesteryear did alot of things better than today. The sad part is that 2k could take all of the old tecmo, and early EA stuff and add it to the game with minimal effort.Psn: Alabamarob

Indeed. It's like women in 1993 vs 2023. There was less technology, less cosmetic surgery, and we didn't know as much about diet. Yet the women acted and presented much better.

Again, I don't want to get off-topic (or violate the TOS).

I think this highlights what some of us have been saying. The improvements made by ProPlay are nuanced. Players are still performing the same moves (crossovers, behind the back, floaters, etc) the movements are just captured differently and, based on this video, there might be better awareness about triggering appropriate animations in certain situations. It's natural that things look similar. 2k was already trying to replicate these things through mo-cap, the animations are just a little more believable and accurate.
I think it was 24 who mentioned how different things stand out for everyone. For some of us, ProPlay is a noticeable difference. Maybe not night and day, but far from being no different from 23. Other people have an eye for detail when it comes to player likeness and other visual inaccuracies (body types being off, show and accessories being incorrect, hair/facial hair being off, etc).Comment

Thanks for this!

I will say though, the closer and closer we get to that uncanny valley the more minuscle details will stand out to us. That comes with trying to mimic real life.
That said, the broadcast vid Jersey put up with Curry was the best example of the difference ProPlay makes. There were several portions that if you saw when you walked in quick you'd think was real footage. The moves just had an organic look mocap could never capture.Comment
