Re: 2K19: Return of The Sim Roster

YAK- One thing I am noticing for both the USER and CPU is there is not enough defensive resistance against layups and dunks. When the offensive player triggers a layup or dunk on a dribble drive to the basket, it appears to completely overpower the defenders blocking or defensive animations, at times, it will even completely move the defender (even rotating centers) and they won’t raise their arms or attempt a block.

This may be the cause of the inflated FG%’s we are seeing. I’m not a slider guru, so I will lean on your expertise and thoughts on the topic.

    Thanks!

There's a tough balance for finishing animations. Most guys can get to the paint off the dribble in the NBA, but few can finish over/through defenders when they get there. I'll test a raised Layup Defense Strength Takeoff/Release combination to see if that make layup animations more difficult, but guys shouldn't be brick walled from entering the paint either.

They also released some gameplay updates around the time of Patch 7 and shot percentages have been completely different since then. I was missing inside shots that are now almost always going in with more green releases than ever before. I'm happy we get updates, but the constant changing and lack of transparency on these updates has made publishing sliders a nightmare this year.

I'm down to 47/47/47/47/50 on the Inside/Close/Mid/3PT/Layup sliders for both CPU and User on Superstar difficulty. I've been in edit mode more than playing the game lately so that's what I'm using after 10 full games of testing.

Also, ignore the TEST sliders on 2KShare. Those are an older version of the sliders that were uploaded for a friend to test a more open gameplay experience. The v0.3-SS are still the most updated sliders, but I'm play testing with changes since the patch. Check percentages after using those shooting sliders above, especially for inside shots.

So have all teams been edited or just the ones you have on the first page?

YAK- Some feedback. Playing in practice mode, so I do not have %’s, but the changes you made to shooting sliders make a noticeable difference with regards to contested layup success. I am still seeing issues with rotating defenders in perfect position and making no effort to block or contest shots, but you are definitely on the right track.

          Thanks!

Just the ones on the first page. I’ve been going through attribute by attribute and tendency by tendency across the league for about 3 weeks. It’s going to be another couple weeks, but all teams will be playable soon. Most of the athletic attributes are finished across the league.

Playbooks and play types are the most important aspects of gameplay. They have been updated for only the teams listed. The others are still release day default, but I’m excited to update them with schemes from this season.

Thanks to everyone who has given feedback on the roster and gameplay while waiting patiently. I know it seems like there’s no progress but it’s because I’m going through data and applying across the league instead of updating everything team-by-team like in the early play test versions. Trying my best to get this out, but also knew it would take a couple months from the start.

Have you tried the custom defensive settings to fix the help defense? The help defense is a mess on defaults, but improves once defenders start using more gap coverage on opposing bigs and flooding the strong/ball side of the floor.

There still isn’t any concept of helping the helper or double/triple switching to help avoid mismatches no matter what you do. It’s tough to simulate real NBA defense without that so I’m faking it with weakside rotations.

Question. Across the league what exactly are you editing beyond tendencies? For individual player are you editing (signature styles? Gear? Badges? Etc)
And for gameplay beyond playbooks and sliders?

Happy holidays! Hope everyone enjoyed time with family and friends this week.

Now it's time for the home stretch of player editing. I've been getting the MyLeague itch lately and can't wait for this to be finished to start enjoying the game finally.

Good news, so we almost have to enjoy the game?

We finally have enough data from this season to start updating the shooting attributes across the league (Open/Contested/Move for Close/Mid/3PT).

To avoid any confusion, shooting attributes will be based upon data from the last 3 seasons (2016-2018). Consistency is rewarded. I've already updated the teams listed in the OP and should have the rest of the league updated tomorrow.

It's probably a good time to describe what some of the shooting attributes control in the game engine.

Mid/3PT Open: Open stand-still jump shot percentage.
Mid/3PT Contested: Contested stand-still jump shot percentage.
Mid/3PT Move: Pull-up and special move (spin, stepback, sidestep, etc.) jump shot percentage.
Shot IQ: How quickly a player recognizes they have an open shot after catching a pass and transitions from the catch animation to a shooting animation.

These definitions all come from 2K game devs in gameplay blogs or posts on these forums (Mike Wang, Mike Stauffer, Czar).

You will see preset Shot IQ attributes based on the type of shots that a player typically seeks to score off. Here's how the scale breaks down:
25 for players that don't seek to catch-and-shoot
50 for players that seek to score off the dribble and rarely catch-and-shoot (most primary ball handlers)
60 for stretch bigs and wings that get spot up looks
75 for good/great spot up shooters and catch-and-shoot specialists
90 for elite spot up shooters with quick releases
95 for the best off-ball shooters in history

Open/Contested/Move ratings are based on the last 3 years of shot data. Manual common sense adjustments are made for players with a low shot count, especially rookies and bench players.
