Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

    Hornets Association going.

Started off 1-6. Then made trades to bring in Eric Gordon and Tyrus Thomas while keeping my core in tact. Giving up all my draft picks except Current1st, W. Green, Marcus Thornton and scrubs to make the finances work.

Since then a)I learned how to better play the game & limit turnovers and b) our record is now 10-7. Just got off a tough week on paper, in Cali I had a back2back against the Clips then Lakers. Blew both of them out. Eric Gordon returned to Staples and dropped a season high 44points (averaging 17.0ppg so hes not a 'monster' persay, he's just been a solid starter). Couple days later went to Boston and won easily by double digits as well. Playing on Allstar sim.

I'm going to restart my association now, because that just doesn't seem right. Either that or up to Superstar. I'll just do the Ty thomas trade and deal with Marcus Thornton at the 2 instead of getting Gordon because Gordon's probably untouchable IRL. Even though he only has a 3.5star value.

I think 1 trade is enough. Especially since NewO has already made deals this offseason bringing in Ariza/Bayless. Do you think bringing in EG was cheese?

    New O traded:
    Marcus Thornton (71)
    Future 1st round
    Current 2nd Round
    Scrub

    Clips Trade:
    Eric Gordon (78)

Hmm, why trade Thornton for a potentially similar (more explosive) player like Eric Gordon? I'm running a Hornets assn myself, and through 10 games Thornton is averaging 18 PPG for me. Personally, I prefer starting him over Belinelli. His shot is sweet and some development drills will just improve it. He is perfect for me when he is running off screen plays like the 12 Cross etc. And if I ever decide to upgrade the 2 position, he'll be a perfect sixth man.

Currently locked up in a tight one on my Indiana chise at the moment vs the Rockets 64-64 but I thought I would check in on OS and tell everyone that Roy Hibbert is TANK! I really struggled in this game early on when he got into foul trouble but now he's back in the 3rd he's propelling me on 14-3 run! Anyone else had experience with this beast?

DEFENSE! Belli is bad enough at Defense with his low Dstats and low foot speed. Gordon has a stronger midrange game than thornton, and adds alot defensively to complement the lineup. Him Ariza & Paul with Oak behind them and TyThomas off the bench is VERY solid and puts a LOCK on teams.

Thornton's contract I didn't like either as he is on his last year -- without bird years enough to resign him competitively. EG just made sense long-term, and he has superstar potential =)

Thanks though for the input NOsaints good question.

But like you mentioned, I'm considering restarting and just dealing with the thornton situation -- maybe use the mid-level to sign Larry Hughes to help situationally or take Peja's minutes off the bench when he's in a cold spell. If thornton leaves ... we'll cross that bridge l8r

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

So, I decided to go with the Bulls... I love Derrick Rose but they need a few tweaks before they are Contender ready.

I made one trade with the 76ers that may have put me where I want to be

            BULLS GET:
            Andre Igoudala
            Jodie Meeks

            76ERS GET:
            Luol Deng
            Ronnie Brewer
            1st Round 2011
            2nd Round 2012

I felt like the Bulls needed an off-the-ball scorer and slasher and Iguodala is reportedly unhappy in real life in Philly. Plus he and Rose played in the world championships together. So I liked it from a realism standpoint.

            My rotation looks like this:

            G ROSE
            G IGUODALA
            SF KORVER
            PF BOOZER
            C NOAH

            -Bench-

            6th Taj Gibson
            7th CJ Watson
            8th Brian Scalabrine
            9th Keith Bogans
            10th Jodie Meeks
11th Chris Anderson (trade w/ Denver for james Johnson)
12th Chris Duhon (trade w/ Orlando for Osik & 2nd rounder)

Just took out the Lakers and Rose is a lot more effective when he doesn't have to score 25 a game. -- thoughts?

I know a lot of you guys are professionals when it comes to trades, just wondering if this makes any since to you guys.

              Bulls Recieve:
Melo (we all know his current situation)
JR Smith (according to DEN's new GM he was looking to trade JR because he wasn't a big fan of his)
Kenyon Martin (honestly I think he's not returning to DEN, With the contract Al Harrington received it looks like they just gave away K-Mart's extension, plus he's aging)

              Nuggets Recieve:
Luol Deng (of course he'll be in the trade)
Taj Gibson (young PF, DEN could benefit from this)
Keith Bogans (a temporary fill in, once Melo's gone, DEN rebuilding process will begin. Small contract and easy to get rid of)
              2011 1st round pick
              2012 1st round pick
(won't really need those picks once Melo comes over)

Obviously I'll have to do these trades before the start of Association, I'm just asking does this make sense from a mental standardpoint considering their current situations. It looks pretty decent in my eyes but we all don't see out the same eye so I'm asking for feedback.
Not really fair since you are hindering Denver's rebuilding process by giving them a terrible contract in Deng.

Something more realistic might be sending Deng to Utah, and shipping Kirilenko to the Nuggets. That way they get the same talent back for the year, but can clear AK from their books after the year and start over again with cheap talent.

Korver's gonna have a heck of a time guarding Lebron and Melo. Iggy's gotta be the SF.

Never thought of it this way, haven't had the chance to pull this trigger, so maybe sending Deng to Utah is an better IDE, thanks bro!

Hey Guys, I started my franchise with the Timberwolves. Right off the bat i made a move to land Joakim Noah and have a little reunion with his college boy Corey Brewer. I gave up Beasley(cant stand him) and Ridnour to Chicago for Noah, Watson and their 2011 first rounder. My first game went well against the knicks. My whole rotation contributed to the win and the final score was 107-117 for us.

                      Top scorers included:
                      Wesley Johnson (Off the bench)
                      26 pts and 3 rebounds.
                      Kevin Love-24pts 3rbs 2blk
                      Joakim Noah-18pts 14rbs

Second game against the nuggets, got another win and my team again was clicking just right and right as i was coming back onto the calender the Bucks offered me Michael Redd and their first round pick for Nikola Pekovic and my first round pick and i accepted. Ive always admired Redd and it would be nice to see him make some real contributions to my team.

thanks for listening y'all! please offer suggestions if you got any.

the trade you mentioned may be fair, but I'm pretty sure the CPU doesn't accept it in the game unless you trade override it. (which just in my opinion, feels kinda cheap)
Yea the trade override just messes up all the excitement because there's nothing like making a great trade, playing GM brings a whole new excitement to your association lol, but I may have to do this before the season starts, hopefully the bulls get him in IRL. ^_^

Hey, great thread. I love reading about everyones association.

I started mine today, I was trying to wait for "The Big 3 / Dynasty" roster but I just can't hold on. I'm using Nogsters latest roster and have downloaded all the rookies that aren't on the rosters.

I've gone with the Clippers (82 games - simulation - 12 Mins - All Star) I'm intrigued to see how good Blake Griffin can be.

First move I made was to get rid of Baron Davis. I just don't think he suits the way the team should be playing and devloping. I need a true shooter at PG who doesn't wanna be the star.

I traded Baron plus a 2012 2nd round pick to Cleveland for Mo Williams. I think this fits as Cleveland may want a star player who can take the limelight and that sounds like Baron. Mo gets out of the nightmare that is Cleveland post Lebron. It also frees up anpther $5m for a possible free agent in the summer (I have one eye on bringin Melo to LA)

So first game was vs Portland. A loss 94 - 88. Good game, but Roy put the beat down on us with 26 pts and they limited us to 16 pts in the 3rd. The game was pretty similar to Wednesdays game!

Griffin was a beast! Mo Williams shot well and Kaman was steady inside.

                          Williams 17pts 2 asts
                          Gordon 12pts 3 asts
                          Gomes 6pts 3 rebs
                          Griffin 28pts 15 rebs 6 asts 2stls 1 blk 11-17 FGs
                          Kaman 15pts 12 rebs 4 blks

There is promise there but I think its gonna be a tough season. I'll sim some games (which we'll probably loose)

                          I'll keep updating.

                          Happy Ballin!

OK, I've finally gotten far enough into one, even though I've simulate a few games, to give the breakdown on my moves with my hometown and beloved Pistons. I *tried* to keep the team chemistry impact together, but injuries and just a certain feel in players had me make a few moves going into the next game I will play.

Rosters are Nog's, and I use Papernut's settings found in JD's slider set. Page 51. 12 minute quarters, I am playing exactly 50 of the schedule, here's how I worked it out. The way the NBA schedule is devised, you play every team in the other conference twice, once on each home court. So, I play each of them ONCE, and will rotate in successive years with the home court.

Then you take the four teams remaining in your conference. You play everyone in your conference twice (to simulate more of the rivalry), and then 1 game home and away against all remaining teams in your own conference. Do the research and find out which teams your team only plays in conference three times, and rotate them for the first 3 years. (They do differ every year, but 3 years will cover most people playing 50 and playoffs, and if you do get there, I'm sure you're quite capable of doing it how you want.

So, trades: I did try to keep realistic with the Pistons, but I did have bad contracts, but some young talent, so I could make moves. Here they are BEFORE I started the season:

I traded Greg Monroe (4 stars) and Rip Hamilton (2 or 2.5 don't remember) and the 2nd in 12 for Blake Griffin and Foye. I don't think the Clippers would do this, but this was the first trade they offered in trade finder, so I took it when it saw that both picks were 2nd. Monroe will probably be a good Piston, but I'd rather take the chance with Blake (and he looks great in human play so FAR!)

I then used the trade finder because of Foye's role as a sixth man and knowing he'd take a morale hit, and traded Villanueva and Foye and 11's 2nd rounder for Jermaine and Big Baby. After trading away Monroe I had no real center player after Wallace, so wanted to use for Jermaine for depth and Baby can play there in a pinch as well. Combined with Wallace and Griffin and Jerebko, nice! My house rule was I refused to part with a first round pick in any deal in order to build through the draft, and not to overbalance trades in my favor.

I then traded Jason Maxiell to the Thunder for PG Royal Ivey, a (59) over, and their 2nd this year. This was again, strictly a role and good cap move, and Ivey even with the low overall HAS gotten into games and been productive in limited time, surprisingly.

All this happened on 10/26. Ben Gordon got injured to an out status on a 2-4. He actually got back to hurt status but was a -8 so he hasn't been playing. Sign Larry Hughes to fill in, make him a role player trying to get added morale for trade value. Played eh while in but did make some plays. Traded to Celtics for Marquis Daniels on 11/7 and also picked up 11's 2nd rd from the Celts.

They like to deal, they have to be having rotation trouble also.

This all meant that Gordon healed fast, so I was in a minute quandry. I go by what I've seen occurring and the style I want to play as these sliders function excellent for 12 minutes. Again, this trade may not be "feasible" in real life, but I'll address that quickly at the end because this is already a novel. And I got ripped off to boot (I'll explain after this because I just FOUND OUT.)

                            I send:

                            Ben Gordon
                            Tayshaun Prince
                            and 2 of the 2011 2nd rounders
and HEY, TRADE FINDER THINKS MY FIRST IN 2012 should be great too. This needs fixed immediately.

                            I got Noah and Deng.

Obvioulsy I gave them a lot of players, and the 1st being added is probably still fair. I know some people are going to say Noah as untouchable, but then you have the school of people that said if Melo could haved moved for Noah by now he would have because the Bulls are on board. Regardless, here's the starting 5 of the new Pistons as of 11/9.

                            Rodney Stuckey (PG) 73 -1 36min
                            T. McGrady (SF) 75-1 30min
                            Luol Deng (SF) 76 -1 38 min
                            Blake Griffin (PF) 75 -1 40 min
                            J. Noah (C) 74 -11 35 min

                            Rotations - Minutes:

                            Bynum/12
                            Marquis daniels/16
                            Jerebko/10
                            Big Baby/10
Jermaine (hurt still at a 69 with his -5 and about to be demoted from starter to role) 8 min
                            Wallace 5min (bitches hes traded)

Got Ivey as the 12th, with Wilcox on reserve, Daye and Summers are on reserve.

We're 2-6, our team chemistry is down around 11% (I fired everyone but the trainer, and the head coach who I would if I could afford it!) Had a D NBA scout making 3 million. Coaching salary limit is garbage. Have not played yet with Noah/Deng.

One of my wins was a played game, played a great OT game winner with Chicago, 115-105. Amazing game! Durant has 33.5 per so far to lead league, and Wall and Griffin are neck and neck for ROTY with Wall putting up a sick 19.8 and 8.6 dimes. Griffin 18.1/7.4 with a steal and a block per.

Whew, a book - hope you get some of out of it. If you don't think the trades would be made, I don't care they are all trade finder stuff. I obviously built a "team" as best I could with some of my rotation guys (and starters for that matter!)

                            Later!

To clear up anyone who wants to play a good 50 game played schedule with 32 simmed:

Play All teams in other conference once: 15 games. Rotate Home/Away every year.

Play All teams in your conference once at home and once away. If they are in your division, play again home away. ONE team out of four teams an NBA plays a year only 3 times you only play ONCE. Gotta research which teams that is in your conference.

                              SO:

                              15 Games Other Conference (8home/7away) 2012 (7Home/8Away)
16 Games In Division (2 Home/2away) Skip the 2 each you want, but keep track.
20 Games One Home/One Away with remaining conference foes.

Select ONE game when you find out which teams your team only plays 3 times in RL this year, and subtract ONE matchup=

50 Games Played/32 Simmed, conference rivals, and every team played at least once. That's the way I do it. Might like it too!

one thing i dont care for in association mode during the offseason, is the inability to maneuver through each player (with bird years), you have renegotiate or waive a player before you can get down to the next guy

also i dont like not being able to extend or renegotiate player contracts during the season

besides that, the game is perfect!
