Hey guys, I have a trade I'm mulling over that I wanted to run by you guys. I'm in 2012 in my Cavaliers association, and drafted Jared Sullinger 4th overall in the draft. I also acquired Darrell Arthur in the offseason, which has left a bit of a logjam at the PF position.

I've engineered the following trade:

Cavaliers give:

Tristan Thompson
Boobie Gibson

Raptors give:

Jose Calderon
2013 1st Round Pick

I like this trade for a number of reasons. First and foremost, it puts Tristan Thompson in his hometown of Toronto with an opportunity to start, something that he wasn't getting in Cleveland. The Raptors needed a solid Forward to enter into the starting 5, and their hometown kid can play the 3 this season, and become the PF of the future in Toronto.

Their starting 5 now looks like this:

Rodney Stuckey
DeMar DeRozan
Tristan Thompson
Amir Johnson
Andrea Bargnani

Meanwhile I love the trade for my Cavs because it gives Thompson a chance to not be mired on the bench when he's way too good to play, picks up a likely high draft pick for a team still in rebuilding mode, and picks up a veteran guard that can help me contend for a playoff birth this season (and who I play pretty well with in-game).

I think it's pretty fair on both ends. Thoughts?

Even with that lineup, Toronto is still probably a lottery team. So they're giving up a solid draft pick for a guy who couldn't start on a bad Cavs team (sorry Bed.) Cleveland seems to be getting the good end of that deal unless you think Thompson is gonna be a stud.

He is (in game), he's got high potential and is already a 75 overall in his second year in the league. Plus he's a Toronto native, so that adds incentive to the deal.

The only reason he couldn't start for my bad Cavs team is that I drafted Sullinger, who I like better, and acquired Arthur from the Grizzlies. I also signed Batum in free agency, so there's really not a whole lot of forward time to be had, since I prefer Alonzo Gee coming off the bench at the 3.

I don't really think Toronto would take the Tristan Thompson trade because they are loaded at PF. They already have Bargnani, Ed Davis, and Amir Johnson. Their primary needs are PG and SF.

As for the Monta Ellis to Cleveland trade, Golden State would definitely need more than Sessions and Varejao. At least 1 first round pick and maybe something else. I think they are sold on Curry at PG so Sessions would be a backup. They have Klay Thompson at SG so they wouldn't specifically need a SG to replace Ellis. Outside of C, their biggest need is SF but Cleveland can't really help with that.

I guess we will agree to disagree on that one... Maybe with Brown it could be top ten protected...

After seeing Lebron leave I have a feeling the Cavs are going to value draft picks very highly, only way they can rebuild for cheap.

I doubt they would do a trade without lottery or top ten protection

Ya, I agree, but I don't think the Cavs would be going after Ellis IRL. They already have a stud in Irving, and seem better off just keeping the pick to draft a good SF such as Barnes or Gilchrist. I was just what would be fair value for Ellis. Ellis trade value is pretty high, as he could probably net you a really good SF or PF

I really don't get how being Toronto native adds value to the deal for Raptors. Most players don't even like to play in their hometown as they often get nervous when they come back home and play.

The deal doesn't make a lot of sense either in that Toronto has a good amount of quality 4 and 5's already on their roster. It would be one thing if Tristan had superstar potential, but he's only going to be a good starter going forward. If their giving up their number 1 pick, which in all likelihood would be top 5, then there going to need a superstar potential player coming back.

Sessions should definitely not be starting at the 2... He rarely plays there at all in real life

Normally when he's in the game Gibson plays the 2

Don't know why then... Maybe Gibson is out. I'll check it out.

When is everyone bringing back the Overseas players(Martin, Brooks, etc)? Mid-Feb. is when they can come back in real-life, so that really shouldn't change even if I'm doing an 82 game season/assoc.

I yearn to fire D'Antoni for the knicks. But apparently one of the richest teams in the NBA cannot afford to fire him

I'd be so happy to dump this coach, I'd even replace him with a rock and be happy.

This is another question, may be more at place in the roster thread, but if 2k12 updates its rosters to remove Flip Saunders, will Bedwardsroy make the adjustment, or are these roster sets fixed to a certain official release?

Actually, there not allowed to come back and play until the end of Chinese playoffs, so they can sign on March 31st

First thing I did in a test run was fire Vinny Del Negro. Retribution for making me watch him when he coached the Bulls and then moving to LA so I can continue watching him on local broadcasts. He retired after I fired him. When I start my assoc. for real, I'm gonna probably do the same thing.

Why fire D Antoni? Is it his fault his GM chose to trade a cohesive group for an overrated ball hog? Amare is not that effective w/o a competent PG which he had in Felton. Baron is a scorer and he wont make life easier for them.
