OK THAT outta the way.

NBA Live is a game you WANT to play. From the menus to the overall fun factor you get from playinga QUICK game. it's very INSTANT. there is a instant gratification with this game that is very similar to Madden. madden over the years has been trying to catch up with it's former self though whereas NBA live is trying to become that NEW Fifa game... meaning it's getting it's barrings until the REAL one comes out.

the best way to start even comparing the two or even start criticizing the two is by getting down to what is it that both games try to achieve. but how can you do that without starting a flame war or a fanboy march? you can't. opinion is based soley on one's inherent mindset that it's hard to agrue with. i mean i got friends who love the Boston red sox just because their dad likes em'(get the point?) so trying to evaluate why this games this or this games that has to be heard from the horse's mouth ...the developer.

If the developer states what they are trying to achieve then the decision there to make itself know what it's trying to do is all the more clear. take MLB the Show for example...those guys make it VERY clear that they are ALL about SIM baseball...

has 2k or Ea really ever gone on the record of what kind of game they are trying to capture? i mean NBA 2k sells to more yet Ea has a very strong user base ANd hardcore base that plays and edits it(mainly me LOL)

so I'm still kind of unsure what kind of game they are both trying to market...

i know what i wanna play and i make it play that way that's for sure......................

That's because of the jumpshot animations. They square up on each shot and only shoot an up and down jumpshot instead of being able to shoot off the dribble. Its one thing that sucked in college hoops to me, because beating your man is only half the battle.

In the beginning I kept asking if you could shoot off the dribble because of this, but everyone kept referring to the off the run animation.

I do feel you, that is something that needs to be changed. Players make a move and go up in one motion all the time in the nba.

this is definitely true. I've found that it's better if you almost pre-load the shot. going into the motion right before the previous animation ends. takes stupid timing tho. Live gets a +1 for this.

the 2k sliding is a mixed bag for me. but after playing live more, has become almost an excercise in frustration. Defensively is the most glaring, because on offense you have a plethora of moves that offset it. Can they make some sort of adjustment to this system without losing the fluidity of the animations?

That's a good point Sirjam. Live just feels more alive to me. I know thats corny but 2k9 is a great game in a great series. It might even be teh last of its kind as far as a real sim. But I think they went a little bit far with certain things. Live and NCAA for that matter just do something else. EA has always had a knack for capturing something that you dont necessarily get with other games. I know a lot of you guys are 2k diehards and i understand why because I like them as well, btu one thing i never liked abotu 2k games is how robotic and predictable their games are. EA lost their way for a while. But for whatever reason they've found their way again and are getting back to what made them the company they are in the first place. That's a good thing. That's not a knock on 2k it's just good to see is all. I'm really enjoying this game and the little things that it brings as well as NCAA, and it reminds me of the old days.

Yep Walker the predictability of the 2k game and lack of cut throat superstars is why I play live now. Also about the crowds in live that someone stated were not real like. I have to disagree with this. Now they are dead if you are playing on the road and you are winning but if they make a comeback. Oh Nelly, watch out. They really get into it. And the sound effects kick in and the crowd starts cheering defense, defense. I heard this and thought I was listening to a real game. Its hard to explain but if you see it you will know what I'm talking about.

First off Kdre and Sage yall wrong for that !!! : ) I agree with Jam here if I remember correctly Live got their crowd sounds from real nba games. listen during the timeouts and you will here a muffled coach talking to his team. The arena sounds alive.

The dynamics to me are what make it seem so Alive. It can go from church mouse quite to a home town party. I like that.

since a lot of the vets are chiming in. I wanna put this out there.

Defensive rotations for the cpu. Which game represents closer to what you might actually see in an nba game and why. I know jam touched on it with the swing the ball but can we zero in on this ?

I'm not going to on a 2k vs. Live thing. All I will say is that I play Live more because I enjoy the experience more.

Basketball games are my least favorite games to play online so I do not care about that aspect of it.

1 game I have fun playing, the other, not as much.

It's really that simple, and I dont need to justify what I play to anyone, so the OP can jump off of a bridge and into oncoming interstate traffic as far as I am concerned.

because they do? why does it matter? if you dont like it dont play it.

that wasn't very nice buddy he's just asking a simple question.

as for me i like live and 2k because they are both good games and they play very different. i enjoy live because of the controls, it just feels like i have more control over everything that is happening on the court. atmosphere is fantastic and i love playing with the fiba teams (tournament).

Some of you might think my view is bias because I am a community leader and moderator for NBA Live...But here are my reason why I like Live more...

1. Live 365: It changes the game...Kobe plays the way he does in real life...They get into position just like they do in real life...All their hot/cold streaks and tendencies...

2. Foot planting: I have played NBA 2K9 and have Live 09...I can say the foot planting is better...I see sliding in Live 09 but saw more in 2K9...

3. Spacing: It one of the biggest things in basic basketball...It gives you room to operate with your offense...Such as driving into the paint and then dishing it out to a open shooter for a three...

4. Game play features: Such as the Pick and Roll Control, Signature Play Calling, NBA Academy, Lock Down Defense where you are able to get up on your man and drive him away, FIBA World Championship.

Sorry to bring up 2k but I just played a game on all-star with default sliders, lmao. Pure comedy. Pacers Hornets(me). I won 120-113 Pacers shot 67% I shot 66% .

when you pump fake you can actually get around the defender.this game has some good emotion,especially in close games...broadcasting team is nice and relaxing and very good.love the dunk or shoot button option,thats huge for me.2k9 probably has better looking faces,but i'll take fun over frustation anyday...

I was thinking more along the lines of when the cpu doubles you how well or do they rotate at all. or when you beat them off the dribble how do they react. I have to say though that I would love to see a game where the best defender attemts to guard the best offensive player.

However the downside is if the code isn't tight I can see bowen checking in to guard D howard and then we have another problem.
