Re: Ask the devs : Physics
Yeah, it looks weird sometimes. No doubt about it.
We haven't done any work on the mesh physics this year. Basically kept what we had last year.
As I've said before, we focused on player physics and keeping the ball loos and under physics control as much as possible.
Improving the mesh physics is something that would have to wait until next year.Comment

It's not something you guys could address in a title update or anything? Not that it's THAT big of a deal lol.Yeah, it looks weird sometimes. No doubt about it.

I think for the most part the interaction between the ball and the net were pretty solid last year, it was just that one instance after a swish.Comment

Re: Ask the devs : Physics
Yeah, I know exactly the case you're talking about. It bugs a lot of people here as well.
Unfortunately it's more work than would be worth spending time on right now, especially in a year where we have so much other stuff going on.Comment

Re: Ask the devs : Physics
Completely understandable. The fact that you guys took note of it for next year is good enough.
Thanks for the response's.Comment

Re: Ask the devs : Physics
Programming is definitely not a piece of cake. We all wish making games was as easy as making a creature in "Spore" but alas... you have deadlines, lower budgets and not enough programmers so you do what you can with what you have.
The net was a big issue for me last year, and that particular net animation was really bothersome. But if you can't fix it it's no big deal. It's a nuance I'm willing to ignore.
The main purpose is making the leap in basketball simulation as you are doing.Comment

Re: Ask the devs : Physics
Thats consequent and good news
I just pray that the balance will be allright.
Do you plan to have somekind of ingame adjustment for the physic effects?
I just ask because the NHL team had tuned their physics up for showcasing big checks in their E3 coverage.
I wonder if the tech is (nearly) the same and is adjustable (while coding and maybe even within the final product).
Btw, great work on giving so much feedback!Soccer: Werder Bremen, FC Barcelona,
NBA: Celtics, Bulls, Supersonics
NHL: Flames
NFL: Steelers

Re: Ask the devs : Physics
There will be more videos released, but I don't know the release schedule and what's in each one.
I'm certain they'll be something dedicated to physics at some point though.Comment

Re: Ask the devs : Physics
Just wanted to keep you guys in the loop on this one, since it was requested here.If this gets added, it'll be one of the sweet little touches that add icing to a cake.
Seriously, there have been countless tennis games where you can play a shot or two after the ball goes out etc and there's no reason it can't happen in an NBA game. It'll just make it look and feel so much more authentic! You could even have it as an on/off option like the after play cutscenes.
Thanks mate
We have a build with this enabled, and for the most part it works (and is pretty cool). There is one bump in the road that we've hit and at this point I don't know for sure if we'll sort that issue out, or if we'll have to pull the feature again. We have a plan on how to deal with it, we just have to be careful.
At this point it's 50/50 that this will get in this year. Maybe a little better than that but I don't want to get your hopes up.
I hope you can appreciate that it's not as simple as flipping a switch. There are consequences to changes like this and we need to make 100% sure that we don't put the title at risk by introducing problems too late.
But we are taking your feedback to try and make this year's game that much better, and this is an example of a feature that if it makes it in will only have made it in because of your feedback.
So thanks for that, and I'll keep you posted on how it goes.Comment

Re: Ask the devs : Physics
Firstly, thanks for the update. It's much appreciated and if our feedback is really making it to the devs then it's pretty amazing really.
I would love to see this included, you could even mo-cap specific 'relaxed' animations for the players after the whistle. These little touches are the things that fans appreciate I think.
But this late into development, I guess it's expected to be added next year
