Re: Playmakers All-Star/Press Box Cam/Team Specific Plays

Hey PM, just curious if I can use these sliders on 5 minute quarters? I am starting an NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, NCAA, PGA theme and would like to keep all seasons equal. Seeing I have to play 4-5 games of NHL, NBA 10 of MLB
(5 innings) to 1 of NFL, NCAA, I enjoy NHL on 5 minutes much better, as the shots seem more realistic as the season is going. I'd like to keep the NBA on the same pace as the NHL as the amount of games are equal, I guess I could go to 29 though. But anyways, I was wondering if I will still get subs into the game and if you think this is playable, what should I set my simulation minutes to?

I'm using default rosters with no player edits to ratings. I did make all the updates for free-agents and trades that went down. I switched a few players Super-Star abilities but other than that everything is normal.

Wow, 5 minutes is really short. If anything since your only playing about 5 minutes I would probably speed up the gamespeed to about 55. I can't say what types of stats you would get at 5 minute periods. I'm guessing the scores will about 65-60 or something around that neighborhood.

I would definetly increase the SUB FREQ to about 48-50 for 5 minute qtr's.

Playmakers - Are you using 12 minutes qtr. for simulated games(dynasty settings)?

What if I still can't hit mid range shots with cpu shot control on? I seem to shoot better with it off.

Yeah that's not mandatory i play with it ON so that it makes it tougher for me to hit a high percentage of shots. CPU Shot control ON is just another way to get ratings more factored into the game. IT's optional.

I think at 100 it takes away from the realism of a big man that plays good defense. When there is a fouled called 100% of the time there is contact that is just not realistic! And again it is set at 100 % for IN AIR COLLISION FOUL FREQUENCY.
All of you other sliders are near perfect in my opinion, I have played this game to death with your sliders since it came out and I am loving it!

I thought about this post after watching several games this weekend. Here's the problem I tried lowering the shooter fouls sliders and in reality if you guy's check the NBA box scores not just during this pre-season but also last year the FT's per game and fouls per team are really high. I understand that everyone hates to see fould being called but in reality if there's contact in the paint 90% of the time it's going to get called.

There is a stoppage of play in the NBA just about every 3rd possession simply because guy's are reaching in or getting beat to the basketball. In reality we assume the fouls are too high yet when you actually watch an NBA game that is what we all complain abotu every postseason because we believe are favorite team(s) is being called for too many fouls. There should be atleast 2-3 players on average per team that has 4-5 fouls.

Here's are 3 games just from tonight alone and look at the FT's and Total fouls called on each team.

                  Dallas-21/29 FT's-35 Total Team Fouls
New York-38/47 FT's-25 Total Team Fouls

                  Minnesota-14/24 FT's-29 Total Team Fouls
                  Detroit-27/36 FT's-25 Total Team Fouls

Golden St-28/42 FT's-31 Total Team Fouls
                  Sacramento-35/44-31 Total Team Fouls

I understand guy's don't want to leave at the FT line and they also hate sending the other team to the line but the #'s don't lie FT's and Fouls are definelty more apart of the game than most of us would like to have overall.

Re: Playmakers All-Star/Press Box Cam/Team Specific Plays

                    REVAMPED FINAL BASE SLIDERS10/16/05)

These sliders were adjusted because I wanted to beef up the CPU defense and also get the amount of fouls back to NBA League averages. There was too much up and down play without stoppages of play for extended periods of time which is unrealistic in my opinion. If you don't agree with the high foul totals then I suggest lowering them to your desired taste. I'm going strictly based on league averages with my sliders. As I mentioned before the total team fouls should be around 20-25 per game with FT's attempted being very common around 25-30+ per game.

I also noticed that if you limit your control to one guy defensively like the PG you'll see more realistic fouls spread out between him and your AI Teammates. Allow your other 4 guy's to defend their own man and you'll see more realism in how the game plays out. Usually the contact fouls are called because your trying to block every shot in the paint instead of letting your AI Big-Men take some responsibilty. Not all players will perform the same defensively if you relinquish some control but hey that's makes the gameplay better in my opinion. IF your San Antonio why not control Parker and allow your AI controlled Bowen or Ginoboli try to handle Kobe by themselves or your AI Duncan defend the post on his own.

I also set the Rebounding sliders back close to DEFAULT because it seems like things just get worse once you move them around. It seems more balanced at DEFAULT especially if you block out on defense and don't try to crash the rim after every offensive shot. Have trust in your low post defenders and they'll rebound on thier own if they are rated pretty good. I think too much tweaking get's the game too unbalanced. I also went back to just two seperate Game Speeds 45 and 50. I think below 45 just makes the players become slow to react or make moves. In return 10 minute QTR's is the highest I would reccomend overall because stats come out better with these sliders based on that time and game speed aswell.

Level: All-Star/Press Box View -2 clicks from DEFAULT Camera/Shot Control Optional

Assign High Pressure Defense to all PF's and C's for both CPU and Human players.

                    Game Speed's
                    45=8-10 MINUTES
                    50=6-8 MINUTES

All Penalties sliders are setup based on NBA League average. So, if you don't agree with the league average lower them at your own personal options.

                    Game Speed: 45 or 50
                    Free Throw Difficulty: 100
Boundary Force Field: 80....(I set this higher now seems to stop all the stupid out of bounds plays)

                    Charge/Block Foul Frequency: 100
Shooting Foul Frequency: 40.........(Use 1 guy on defense & let your AI teammates function solo)
Reach-in Foul Frequency: 52.........(Helps to spread out fouls amongst players)
In-air Collision Foul Frequency: 100.....(This is very realistic if U control 1 defender)

love the sliders except for cpu stealing and the cpu is still a monster on the boards. What can i do to get the cpu to miss some lay-ups becuase the never miss one.

Lower their Layup Percentage Slider and decrease their Steal Slider. But if you are below 10 Turnovers per game that wouldn't be really accurate. Turnoovers should be anywhere from 12-20 per game. Under Nash last year Phoenix averaged around 14 per game so that should give you some barrometer.

Check out this monster game KG had vs me tonight.

                          Memphis-71 (Me) at Minnesota-95

                          Garnett (11/19 Fg, 6/6 FT, 28 Pt's, 18-Reb's, 3-Stl's, 33 Minutes).....

He only had 3 Dunks but his low post game was brutal all night for me. I went Zone most of the 2nd half and he still found ways to manuever inside. The T-Wolves called his # just about every other possession. They basically forced me into a jump shooting game because they used Zone aswell for the part.

Ok Playmakers I read your last few post and decided to go ahead and play exactly the way you described things. I set up Houston vs Chicago on 9 Minutes with a Speed at 45. I used all the above sliders and I must admit at first I hated that the CPU Rockets were getting calls for T-Mac and Yao but it felt so realistic simply because it did seem like the pace of the game was NBA pace and I had like 3 guy's Hinrich, Deng and Sweetney all with 4 fouls but they still played 30 or more minutes which was oustanding man. I was shocked at the way the game presented contact foul animations in the paint so I think you nailed that sucker just right. I lost the game 96-88 and McGrady was huge scoring 27 Points while Yao had 16 Points and 14 rebounds. I can tell you improved the low post defense for the CPU because they blocked 6 shots but none of it felt cheesy. These were awesome blocks by Stromile Swift who really did a good job in applying help defense when ever I would beat Rafer Alston with Hinrich or Gordon. I'm definetly going to start my Dynasty with these now because the tempo and pace just feel so balanced. I played defense all game as the PG and sure enough I saw my guy's reaching, stealing and blocking shots aswell as getting fouls called on them for bad plays. Thanks for all the hard work man.

I had half an hour spare so I tested the new sliders out and was pretty impressed but there is one or two things that could be improved.

I used the exact sliders but only played 8 minute quarters on game speed 50. I was at home with the Hawks against the Lakers with plays and match-ups all set.

I also (for the first time) only controlled the PG on defense and I love it. Makes it so important to have good AI defenders this way. Actually makes you want to build a decent team because they have to work themselves.

It was a really enjoyable game that played fairly realistic. I was worried about offensive boards early on but they were taken when there and balanced out ok. That was with the sliders at 30.

One thing I am worried about was the lack of assists but this could be due to the fact that neither the Hawks or the Lakers have a floor general like a Nash or Kidd so I'll test that out in other games.

For now though, it turned out great. Fouls were consistent and so were free throw attempts. I like the way the fouls are actually. They work very well.

Great stuff Playmakers. An enjoyable experience

I think that the assist totals really depend on the Offensive AWR of PG's because I've seen guy's get 7-9 assist in games. But this is also why I like Live because not all PG's should be John Stockton and you'll see guy's with good, average and below average totals.

As for the Fouls that's the reason I increased it back. It helps to give a better flow to the game instead of teams going up and down just shooting. They help to keep shot totals lower around 75-80 should be average per game and fouls help to balance that out. I'm watching Dallas and Detroit right now and the game is being stopped every other possession for a reach in foul or shooting foul. It might not be pretty to have that type of game but hey it's better than run and gun style all game.
