To talk about recruiting for a second, when i look at the enormous amount of 5 and 4 star players, i cant help but think the number is ridiculous, usually only 25 players are 5 star all americans and maybe 50 more 4 stars.... should i bother even giving scholarships to anyone under a 4 star, and im at a bcs conference school? will they just be able to walk-on?

^ You need to download the patch, it fixes that. There are 20-25 five-star recruits each year post-patch."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)
huh? i haventy been able to dl the patch but i know for a fact that there are ALWAYS 25 5 stars, 24 hs all americans (seniors), rarely there will be a 4 star all american, but rarely. maybe you are looking at juco's and undefclassmen? because thats what the patch lowered the amount of, the hs seniors are fine.Comment

I tried to download the patch. I get on xbox live but no update is there. Am I doing something wrong? I know I do not have the patch because in my legacy there are more then 30 5*. Please help!Comment

Its the hot/cold meter. Red means the player is hot and you should get him the ball. Blue means the player is ice cold.
The yellow cell phone bar shows you the players "sweet" spots. When its full then that player likes to shoot from that spot. When its empty the opposite is true.Comment

PLAYS FOR THE CPU, PART 2
I went back through all the plays, testing them out against both man and the 2-3 zone to see which ones work best for the CPU. I started to test them versus the 2-3 matchup, but that defense is so erratic it's hard to really tell what works and what doesn't.
Here's the results, divided by who the play is primarily for... So when you set up a playbook for the CPU it's best to choose at least a few plays for each position:
PG
vs MAN
PG Clearout (1-4 High)
PG Post Up (baseline 1)
PG Loop (Motion 3)
PG Combo (Motion 4)
vs 2-3
SG Stagger (Motion 5)
C-SG Flash (triangle 5)
vs Both
none
SG
vs MAN
SG Wing Iso (1-4 High)
SG-PF Two Man (Box)
PG Choice (Flex 2)
Guard Pick & Fade (Flex 3)
SG Stagger (Motion 5)
SG Low Post (UCLA)
Wing Exchange (triangle 3)
vs 2-3
Baseline Curl (1-4 High)
Zip (1-4 High)
Rollback (Motion 2)
PG Combo (Motion 4)
Hawk (Motion 4)
24 Motion (4 Out Post)
Quick Hit (3 Out 2 In)
C Playmaker (triangle 3)
SG Corner 3 (triangle 7)
vs Both
Double Cross (1-4 High)
Cal-Wheat (Box)
SF
vs MAN
PG-SF Pick & Roll (baseline 1)
SF Post High (Box)
SF Triple Screen (Box)
SF Iso Wing (Flex 1)
SF Low Post (UCLA)
PG Pick & Roll (UCLA)
Screen the Screener (UCLA)
SF Screen ISO (triangle 4)
vs 2-3
dribble motion (4 Out Low)
Wing Exchange (triangle 3)
SG Corner Pick (triangle 8)
vs Both
SF Popout (Box)
Cal-Wheat (Box)
SF Weakside (Motion 1)
SF 3pt Wing (Motion 4)
Baseline Stack (Motion 5) *fixed
PF
vs MAN
PF Screen Post (baseline 1)
PF Decision (baseline 1)
PG Choice (Flex 2)
PG-PF Pick & Roll (Flex 2)
PF Low Post (Flex 4)

PF High Iso (triangle 1)

Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)
Fixed a typo in the "PLAYS FOR THE CPU, PART 2".
Also, I started up my All Time Rosters for Legacy Mode project again. So folks with the PS3 version, be sure to hang on to it. The one catch is I'm kind of waiting to see if there's going to be a new version this fall, and if there is I'll probably stop.
Making teams is easy, especially the way I'm doing it: only nine players per team, and very little work done on player's faces. Teams I have done so far are:
Indiana
Michigan State
North Carolina
Illinois
Georgia Tech
Wake Forest
Ohio State
Villanova
UCLA
Washington
I'm trying to figure out a way to make it so scrub players don't get the post season awards...
Well, like I say... I'm kind of in waiting, to see about Choops 2K10, which I guess will be announced at E3 if at all.All ties severed...Comment

Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)
I edited out the play "PF Pop Clear (Box)" for the SG because the play mostly results in a shot for the PG, and not a very realistic one at that.
Also, I uploaded four playbooks to 2K Share (Playstation 3) if anyone is interested:
1. Hoya High Post - A balanced playbook featuring plays where big men come to the high post area.
2. Carolina - A balanced playbook featuring isolation plays.
3. Yellow Jacket - A balanced playbook featuring plays for 3pt shooters.
4. Heathcote - A balanced playbook featuring low post plays.All ties severed...Comment

Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)
The Baseline Stack in the Motion 5 playbook is set up under plays for the SF in Koshi's PB breakdown. Against a 2-3 it actually sets up a wide open 3 point shot from the corner for the PG. I never use it for the SF but only for the PG to get the open look when I see the 2-3.Comment

Great work btw, I still use the original 3 PB's you posted on 2K Share and the cpu plays much better in the half court utilizing their good players. I consistenty see the top 3 players on teams take the bulk of the shots.Comment

Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)
I highly recommend that people switch all the coaching profile playbooks that use "Box" to some other playbook. Seeing the PF come around to the FT line to catch the pass... Make a few jab steps... Then pass to the PG for an automatic shot (due to your guy always sagging off the PG) just makes for some ugly basketball. All ties severed...Comment
