Before LeBron, the Cavaliers hadn't made it out of the first round of the playoffs since '93. If we're talking they've BEEN relevant before, yes then. The Bucks were also relevant when they had Lew Alcindor and The Big O. But the Cavaliers were irrelevant for almost a decade before they signed LeBron. This may be because as a Knicks fan in the 90's, the Cavaliers were not a major concern of mine so I didn't look for them, but the Cavaliers were not a big deal on a national stage.

In the 33 years before Lebron the Cavs made it out of the first round three times and no Finals appearances.
I don't get upset when people say the Wizards are irrelevant despite the four Finals and a chip in the 1970s. Why? Because nobody cares about those.
I admit I'm a young guy, but in the pre-Lebron era, the only two things I knew about the Cavs were that MJ hit one of the clutch shots of all time against them and that Ricky Davis made a rebound on his own basket to get a triple double.Comment

Re: The Official "Where is LeBron going?" Thread
The Cavs were relevant enough in the late 80's and early 90's, Born's list of players shows why, they had some good-to-great players but were never a contender. But yeah, to most fans they're known for getting tortured by MJ."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: The Official "Where is LeBron going?" Thread
All that means is more waiting time for LeBron. Wait for guys to retire, contracts to get moved, etc. and all during a time where the free agency is not nearly as loaded as it is now.
Cleveland tried building around LeBron and they did it poorly. They hired a bad coach and gave LeBron a shoot-first PG as a sidekick, big defensive stiffs as post players, and guys with low bball IQ as role players. Jamison came in and looked horrible, and now they're stuck with his contract.
Now he has a new GM and a new coach and will have to go through more growing pains as they look to re-re-build around him and manage to move Jamison's and Varejao's huge contracts.
Rebuilding is a reach, bro. Maybe I did a "poor" job explaining. Shaq signs a contract this off season. Cavs get a ton of cap space. Right now. The second he signs it. Same with Z. Wally has been encouraged to hold off on retirement so he could possibly be used in a S&T. There is no long wait. I know Mo and Jamison, (who isn't half the value Shard is at 100+ right, lmao) are suddenly the worst supporting players in the league, but you're trying way too hard.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

I guess everyones just different. I wouldnt be happy if Kobe came to the cavs either. To me, Lobe's a Laker. Its where he should be. When I think of Jordan, I think of the bulls. When I think of Montana, I think of sf....yet both of these players played successfully elsewhere for 2-3 years of there carears.
Its not just the superbowls, its who they were, they were litterally physically a part of those teams. My favorite player in any sport was Barry Sanders. Not once did I want him to come to Cleveland, or play anywhere else. I just dont like players that switch to other teams, to me it hurts there Legend..... and hurts sports in general.. Its no so bad when its a player who doesnt cut it, but a star?....There the face of the franchises.
Take Emmitt Smith, the cardinals? Really? Shame on you Cowboys. Just as I expect a player to try to stick with his team, shame on the Cowboys for dumping that man. The guy brought them multiple superbowls, and was the all time leading scorer. This kind of stuff gives sports a bad name. I know Im the minority, but all this money talks, switching to better teams, etc, stuff, is just killing the game.
I had respect for Montana, he got a bumm deal also, he didnt want traded until they just benched him. But to me, he should have got to finish in SF. I dont care if Youngs there or not, Montana is usually voted best all time. Brought you countless superbowls. How do you just throw that Legacy in the trash?
Same with Greenbay. Im not saying who's fault it was,. Im just saying favre as a Jet, Viking? In a way, it kind of sucks. Hes Brett Favre, #4 on the Packers.
Lebrons a Cav, born and raised a Cav really. How do you just walk away? I just couldnt do it personally. Thats just me. If I had to play mind games to get some money I deserved because Im underpayed, then what ever, but I would leave if I absolutely did have to. Thats just me.
By the way, I just dont agree theres more talk about Kobe then Lebron. Even when I lived in Southern CA, Lebron was everywhere. That was just 2 years ago. Sure, Kobe may get a little talk right now, after some championships, but it will be 50/50% again. Everyone said Brady's the best when he was winning Superbowls, now its Manning by a wide margin on peoples top QB. Ive persoanlly said Manning all along, but people are easily influenced by superbowls of the moment, and not looking at the individual player. Back in the day E. Smith was always rated over B Sanders, he had the Super Bowl spotlight man....now the polls are tilted in Sanders favor by a wide margin. Its just how people are. There not judging the player, there judging by the moment..Last edited by wheelman990; 06-30-2010, 08:31 PM.Comment

Re: The Official "Where is LeBron going?" Thread
Get this, guys! There are actually odds on where LeBron will end up that you can bet on in Vegas:
Heat: -140
Bulls: EVEN
Cavaliers: +280
Knicks: +1200
Nets: +1200
Clippers: +3000

Looks like Miami is the favorite by a decent margin with Chicago and Cleveland as the only others that aren't long shots.Comment
