    Re: The LeBron James Thread

As for some of the leagues all time best Big 3 groups..

Russell, Cousy, Heinsohn - substitute Sharman for Cousy/Tom even
    Havlicek, Jones, Russell
Wilt, Greer, Cunningham - or substitute Walker
    Wilt, West, Baylor
    Wilt, West, Goodrich
    Kareem, Oscar, Dandridge
Frazier, Reed, DeBusschere - or substitute Lucas
Love, Sloan, Van Lier - or substitute Walker - kinda weak*
Walton, Lucas, Hollins - kinda weak?*
Hayes, Unseld, and Dandridge/Kupchak/Chenier? -also kinda weak*
Williams, Sikma, DJ - or substitute Fred Brown
Cheeks, Julius, Moses - or substitute Toney
    Magic, Kareem, Worthy
Bird, McHale, Parish - or substitute DJ
    Thomas, Dumars, Laimbeer
    Jordan, Pippen, Grant
    Nance, Price, Daugherty
Drexler, Porter, Kersey - or Buck? Also kinda weak*
    Tim, Mitch, Mullin
    Barkley, KJ, Majerle
    Penny, Shaq, Nick
    Jordan, Pippen, Rodman
    Payton, Kemp, Schrempf
    Malone, Stockton, Hornacek
    Shaq, Kobe, Fisher/Fox/Horry???
    Duncan, Parker, Manu
    Nash, Amar'e, Marion
Billups, Sheed, Ben - or Rip
    Pierce, KG, Allen
    Kobe, Gasol, Bynum
Dirk, Kidd, Marion - or Terry, kinda weak**
    Durant, Westbrook, Harden/Ibaka
    LeBron, Wade, Bosh

Off the top of my head that's the best trios I can think of as far as talent combined with success. Again I agree as far as the entire team goes I don't think Miami is near as good as a lot of the teams the trios mentioned above had. Lots of those teams had other HOFs paired with them, 6th man of the year candidates, and all star caliber talents.. But as far as just 3 players go to say they aren't up there with those guys is ridiculous. Especially if we are talking about all around talent, and how well they contribute at both ends of the court.

If I had to pick just one team? Probably Bird/McHale/Parish or Magic/Kareem/Worthy.. But still it's not like I can say that with any certainty.

I know the Jordan/Pippen/Rodman group is basically the consensus choice here but honestly Rodman was never a great all around player. He performed his role perfectly but really Harper and Kukoc were probably equally important for that team. Rodman made up for not having a good rebounding center and was still a good defender, but his days as a lock down guy and arguably the best defender in the league were ending.. He was more of a nuisance get in your head defender who was not scared to do the dirty work.. I would maybe chose the Jordan, Pippen, Grant 3 over them. And according to win shares and estimated wins added I believe this group is ranked the highest of all time.

The big thing the Jordan/Pippen/Rodman trio has for them is the 72 wins. But again Kukoc could arguably be that third guy, or Harper even for giving them the best perimeter defensive trio of all time.

But there isn't many trios on the list who could drop a combined 80 points and at the same time be one of the most effective defensive trios in the league. Combined with how well rounded LeBron and Bosh are skill wise they are easily up there with those other guys.

I just wanted to know who you guys thought were good to great exec's, because I can't think of any who's success you can't explain away like done above is all...there is always going to be a circumstance a GM took advantage of that he didn't singlehandedly create, always some luck involved...and if your overrated after bringing a team together who won 2 ships in 3 years, who qualifies as a properly rated, great GM?

      Think it's a fair question.

I think you're looking a little too into the comment. At the end of the day, Pat has success which is why I said I give him props for what he has achieved. However his overratedness comes from guys acting like he's above all other executives in the league. I've seen here and other places the argument about LeBron's future feature comments like; "why would he leave that organization? Pat Riley can build winners" yadda yadda yadda. Is there always going to be a circumstance where a GM takes advantage of something or have luck on their side? Of course, but does anybody talk about any other exec as if they're the second coming and a cut above the rest like they do Pat Riley?

When is anybody ever praising R.C. Buford? Does anybody know who Bob Myers is? Larry Bird has been doing a pretty good job. Gar Forman falls in the good to great range of GMs. But of course Pat Riley is the end all be all of execs because of the big three that largely happened because of D-Wade's doing. In order for the big three to even be a possibility he put together some lousy rosters for three years that had no chance in hell of winning anything so he could save up his cap space for LeBron and Bosh because he could afford to do it without pissing off his star because it was basically the star's brainchild.

          Re: The LeBron James Thread

Jerry West, who is universally praised as a great FO executive, once said "If you're hitting on 51% of the moves you make, that means you're pretty good at what you do". I mean obviously if we break down every GM's moves there going to have some misses as well that includes Bird, Buford, Presti, Morey...I could on and on. But we look over those because their track record as whole is pretty damn good.

But sorry King, I've never heard anyone, at least here praise Riley like the way you're describing. I know I've said that one of the reasons why I don't see Lebron leaving is because if you're Lebron and you trust your FO to help make and keep your team competitive and successful, why would you want to leave that? Especially in comparison to the other teams that will make a serious run at him. If I wasn't on Tapatalk now I'd continue on this but typing an essay on here is a bitch so I'll address the rest of it when I get to a computer.

If were talking about over zealous Heat fans, that's one thing....I'm sure there are some of them that think Mario Chalmers is a top PG as well...nature of fans..

but like Pack, I haven't seen him praised in that manner generally...

              Re: The LeBron James Thread

What about the miscellaneous pieces Riles put together that came through in the clutch for them the last few years.

              Battier
              Mike Miller
              Ray Allen
              Resurrecting Birdman
              Posey the first go-around
Hiring Spo & sticking with him and/or entrusting him to manage 2 of the games biggest stars
              etc...

Yeah Wade helped land Bron & Bosh but Riles surrounded them with pieces that were vital to their success. Even a guy like Rio who alone isn't going to wow anyone is a great compliment to their System and their roster.

He's not DPOY but I don't see how he's an overrated defender.
