In Dwight's defense, he gets mugged all the time but doesn't show it as much just because he's so big and strong. Refs get trigger happy with him too.

Derrick's Free Throw attempts: 532

Dwight obviously leads the league in this category. What's crazy about it is that the second in free throw attempts is Blake Griffin with 688. Howard's got 200+ more free throw attempts than the next person!

The difference being Dwight gets hit a lot harder and fouled more in general. Derrick gets star treatment (whether or not we Bulls fans want to admit it), and Dwight doesn't. Dwight has more attempts because teams are so willing to foul him due to his low free throw percentage.

Isn't there a ridiculous stat that says Dwight has been fouled however many times and none of them were flagrant? I think that speaks for itself.

Dwight plays center... and is a horrible free throw shooter. It makes no sense to compare his attempts to a point guard, even if that PG drives every time down the court. Just doesn't make sense.

Dwight also knows the rules so there is no defense for him. If his complaining didn't work the first 17 times then the 18th time was probably pretty easy to predict.

The thing that doesn't add up is the number of times he's been fouled compared to the number of those that were flagrant. Without looking at specific fouls, those numbers are ridiculous. In my opinion, the reason for that is Dwight's strength and ability to withstand hits, as opposed to a smaller player who can be tossed around. That's one issue with NBA refs. They penalize based on the result, not the cause.

I agree that Dwight gets fouled more and harder, but disagree that Rose gets star treatment and Dwight doesn't. A dominant center gets fouled more than a dominant point guard... a center that focuses mostly on freakish power and athleticism gets fouled harder than a point guard. There's no star treatment. It's not fair to compare players of those two positions.

I still don't think it gives him a pass for getting techs. He still doesn't get fouled as often or as hard as Shaq did, which was part of the reason he left LSU early and continued into the "Hack-a-Shaq" days. I don't remember Shaq getting techs every other night.

I feel like he has to end up as a Laker someday. Every great center before him in a position similar to his has. There's not much in Orlando keeping him there. I wouldn't mind seeing it either with him playing with an older Kobe.
