    Garnett was though.

Definitely wasn't two top 5 players in the entire league, and wasn't pre-meditated, nor were they reaching their prime. Obviously hind sight is 20/20 seeing some of those players fizzled out but at the time it definitely wasn't clear cut.
You kidding me? Pierce and Allen weren't top five at their positions in 2008?

The only players at the 3 I could think of was better than Pierce was James, Melo and McGrady. Anybody else you name me is highly suspectable.

In regards to Ray Allen, I'll give you Kobe, Wade and Ginobli. at Ben Gordon and Kevin Martin even being in the conversation. And being a Bulls fan, during that time if the Celtics offered Ray Allen for Ben Gordon, I'd drive Gordon to the airport myself and pick up Ray Allen.

That being said, Garnet was still playing like a top-5 player. Yes, Pirece and Allen weren't top-5 players BUT with both being top-5 at their respective position, that to me equals(or maybe even exceeds) a top-5 player in the league.

You can laugh if you want. If you don't want a Top 6 scorer in the league at the time in Kevin Martin, then I'm really glad you don't run a team.

Same with Ben Gordon. As as a Bulls fan you should know, he was touted as being one of most explosive SGs in the league and shot over 40% from 3 his first 5 years in the NBA, something Ray Allen didn't even do.

Like I said, hindsight of how some of those players careers turned is 20/20, but at the time, is wasn't as clear as you're making it out to be.

Ray Allen will be in the hall of fame one day. Can't say that about Gordon nor Martin. So yeah, you can have your rotisserie style shooting guards. Yeah, if I was running a fantasy team, I wouldn't fair so good.

Once again, hindsight of how those players turned out is 20/20.

Just because he will be in the hall of fame for a whole career, doesn't mean he was considered a top 5 player at that time.

Up until 2008, Ray Allen was a seven time All-Star who was averaging about 21 points a game for his career. In 2007, Allen averaged 26 points a game. Gordon averaged 21 and Martin averaged 20 that same season. Of course, Allen's scoring took a dip in 2008 to 17 ppg because he sacrificed to win a championship. I'm not sure what else you want from Ray Allen BUT he was capable of being a top 5 scorer as well. He just choose not to during that year.

Anyhow, I'm done. This is way off topic.

What? You keep saying that hindsight is being used by others when really you're the one using it.

Ray Allen was putting up 26, 4 and 4 the season before being traded to Boston and was either that year or the year before in the early discussions for MVP because Seattle started off so well, a team that Ray was the leader and #1 option on. How was he not one of the best SGs at that time?

For comparison, Kevin Martin was putting up a 20, 4 and 2 line.

Ben Gordon at that time? 21, 3, and 3.

So you're still going to tell me both of those guys were better than Ray Allen at that time?

Re: Could Dwight Be Playing Somewhere Else Next Season?

One source close to the situation told ESPN The Magazine’s Ric Bucher that the Magic have promised Howard that they will add a quality player before Thursday’s deadline and that Howard can decide the fate of both GM Otis Smith and coach Stan Van Gundy at the end of the season if he signs an extension. Bucks swingman Stephen Jackson, frustrated in Milwaukee, is available and sources say he and Howard have talked about playing together.
This sounds eerily familiar with another player not too long ago.

But yeah, once you're at the point where you're going to give HIM the power to decide the fate of the GM AND Coach, you're better off just letting him go because now you're telling people who's really in charge of things now and it's neither the Coach nor GM.

                From Alex Kennedy:

Source close to the situation denied the rumored talks between the Warriors, Magic and Bucks: “No discussion whatsoever. Not one call.”

I would like to see that deal get done just to see a frontcourt with Bogut and Lee.

Just agree to disagree. I guess 08 is that far back that people really can't remember.

                    Let's get back on topic.

just something that has crossed my mind the last few days...

if i'm dwight howard, whats stopping me from agreeing with the Magic to be traded in order to allow them to get the assets. and then signing with Orlando when my contract is up? wouldn't that be the best decision if he wants to win?

LOL what is this trash of Pierce not being a top 5 SF in 2008? Pierce and LeBron were the top 2, and when they went head to head in game 7 Pierce proved it.

                              Don't be ridiculous.

KG was a top candidate for MVP that year and was the reason the Celtics defense was nearly impenetrable.

I would say Ray was a top 10 SG at the time, given his role on the team.
