Re: Could Dwight Be Playing Somewhere Else Next Season?

ORL already maxed out, and management doesn't seem smart enough to build a contendor with what they have available

Yall need to do each other the favor of simply not reporting every single tid bit that comes out about Dwight.

You guys are killing this guy, but I really honestly do wonder what it would have been like if the Twitter age existed sooner. I wonder how many other guys you'd roast if Twitter/the internet was invented 20 years earlier.

Nelson didn't play in the post season that year. Anderson is an upgrade from Lewis, Turk has lost a step, but it is similarly constructed with Dwight and shooters. If the shooters are on, it is nearly unstoppable. They were hot in that post season and the lakers series was closer than it appears. Live by the 3, die by the 3.

If Nelson didn't go out with an injury.... who knows.

They had two of the better years of Shard and Turk

              Had Courtney Lee ballin out

Nelson was an All-Star that year, and he truly deserved to be, but after he got hurt he was never the same, even to this day.

But yeah I think that year was just an anomaly because pretty much all of those support guys either flamed out the year after or are middling in mediocrity now.
Honestly Stan Van cost them more than anything with that one. If he didn't try to force feed Jameer back into the lineup in the Finals they might've won that series. It's not like they were getting Steve Nash back to insert in ahead of a hot Goran Dragic or D-Rose to take over from CJ.

There is really no comparison between that Eastern conference title team and any other team Dwight has been on.

Shard and Turk were definitely in the groove that entire year and were much closer to All-Star caliber than Ryan Anderson has ever been.

Both of those forwards still had juice in the tank and did more than just spot shoot. They could handle the ball a little bit and create some offense.

Yeah if Nelson was healthy it would have been intriguing. He was sort of unstoppable that year, getting to the basket at will.

Haha I'll definitely understand if/when people won't root for him. Hell I can admit that this whole thing has annoyed me because this all could've been dealt with long ago if he had flat out just told them he didn't want to be there.

Ryan Anderson is better than Lewis now. But he's not better than Lewis was that year. Lewis was a very solid complement to Dwight back then. Anderson has 16 ppg, Lewis had 17.7. They're shooting % were all about the same, Anderson gets a couple more boards, but Lewis was a much better passer.

That 08-09 team had some really good players. Jameer didn't play during the playoffs, but Rafer Alston scored 12 a game with 5 assists - better than Jameer is playing now. Turk was a 17/5/5 guy and is now an 11/4/5 guy for a lot more money (they let him walk for a reason, panicked, and brought him back). Dwight didn't have superstars around him, but he had guys that score in multiple ways. Three other guys scored 16 ppg or more during that season. This year they only have one other guy scoring more than 13. They don't have a #2 to keep teams honest on D12, especially in the postseason.

If I'm Dwight, I'm absolutely frustrated by it. You were so close in 08-09. And they essentially blew up that team, slowly but surely, and kept trading good players away for guys with worse contracts. Vince Carter's contract wasn't good - so they traded for Turkoglu, who's contract was worse. Rashard's contract was bad at the end. So they traded for Arenas, who's contract was worse (and so was his production). And now, when everybody is joining up (the Heat, the Clippers, the Knicks, etc.), the Magic have put themselves in a position where they can't really improve their roster unless someone is dumb enough to take Hedo.

Re: Could Dwight Be Playing Somewhere Else Next Season?

Dwight Howard has confirmed that he will opt-in for the 12-13 season in an exclusive interview with RealGM's Jarrod Rudolph.

Howard will formally sign the paperwork in the morning on Thursday.
"I have gotten some bad advice," said Howard. "I apologize for this circus I have caused to the fans of our city. They didn't deserve none of this."

Over the course of Wednesday, Howard appeared to be indecisive on his wishes for the 12-13 season in the face of a possible trade from the Magic. The organization informed Howard they would seek a trade if he couldn't give them an assurance of his desire to remain beyond the current season.
Only a few more hours to see what the business really is.

Source close to Dwight Howard says the center plans to sign ETO waiver on Thursday morning. It also sounds like Howard may fire Dan Fegan.

“Dwight doesn’t want to be the bad guy,” one source involved in the process said of Howard’s past 24 hours. “He doesn’t want to be unpopular. He flaked out.”

When you demand a trade, you're going to be unpopular.

                                As you should be.
