Re: 2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread
I could see that as well but can kanter play the 4? They already have McGee at C. Plus Blatche, Lewis and Yi already there. There lack of any true wing man is why I suggested Williams, even though he may be more of a PF than a SF.
One thing we all can agree on is that this years draft will be really interesting.#WeAreUKComment

Re: 2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread
I agree UNLESS they make the 20 year old rule to the NBA for next year. Then you will have a lottery full of good players with a few being studs and then everyone else. This year's freshman class was not overall a great class full of superstars. Next year's class (2011) will be phenomenal and when they come out, either next draft or the following, you will see a bunch of studs.#WeAreUKComment

Re: 2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread
Was really hoping to the Blazers could grab Markieff Morris with their 1st rd. pick but with all the guys dropping out of the draft, he's now slated to go mid first round.
Portland has shown the willingness to put something on the table to move up on draft day if they need to though, so I guess it could still happen.Comment

Re: 2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread
I've been MIA for a sec but here's my take.
Barnes has more strength then people give him credit for. He has the strength and while he isn't jump out the gym athletic, he has above average athleticism. While he did struggle early on he still showed why he was regarded as a high pick.
He has the mid-range game, pull up jumper and rebounding already in his game. Where he needs improvement is ball handling(that can be worked on), reading screens(often times he comes off the screen wrong and helps out the defense) and getting to the free throw line. The last one is a big one though because he knows he can just pull up and knock down jumpers easily he settles for them instead of attacking and getting the much easier points at the line.
Another overlooked part of his game is how unbelievably clutch he was as a freshman. The only person in the country that hit more game winning or go ahead buckets then Barnes last year may have been Kemba.
I think he can be a career 18 ppg scorer now but if he were to attack more and get to the line then he can easily add 5 more ppg to his avg.
Even though the sample size is small you can see the talent Kyrie has. He came back and was still the best player on the court for Duke despite being a little overweight.
As a Wiz fan I want Derrick Williams. We need a player with heart who isn't afraid of contact (Blatche & McGee)Comment

Re: 2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread
It's really insane how weak this draft is going to be. Can't see anyone in it turning into an all-star, I mean I like Kyrie Irving but there's so many great PG's in the league today I don't even see him as a sure all-star in the future. It makes you feel like if you're a team with a lottery pick you should try and go after solid role players that look like they'll have a long career instead of taking a shot with a young guy with upside and little chance of turning into a star.
I like a guy like Kenneth Faried and don't see why he won't be a top 5 pick in a draft like this. You know what you're getting with someone like that and lottery teams usually don't have the opportunity to pick guys like that because they're always taking shots at guys like upside and passing on DeJuan Blair types. These teams need glue guys that play defense and rebound. This is the draft to look for players like that.Comment

I'll also say this. Barnes has the skills to be a very good player in the NBA. But he is not even close to comparable to Mashburn. Their skillsets and body are no where close to the same.#WeAreUKComment

Re: 2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread
Exactly. That's the problem and I heard once that there are a lot of GM's that would rather swing and miss on guys that look like they might have potential and upside to be a superstar rather than going with those types of glue guys.Comment

Re: 2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread
I'm sorry, but that's just not true. Being a lifelong UK fan and Mash being my favorite all time Cat, I can say without a doubt that Mashburn was known for his cross over at UK and was absolutely not primarily a post player.
I'll also say this. Barnes has the skills to be a very good player in the NBA. But he is not even close to comparable to Mashburn. Their skillsets and body are no where close to the same.
Back on topic. I'm still shocked that Jones & Sullinger came back in this weak year.Comment

I just don't personally see any resemblance to Mashburn when talking about Barnes. Literally none.#WeAreUKComment

Re: 2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread
Well of course he wasn't the perimeter player in college as he was in the NBA. In college and at 6'8"/6'9" he utilized his size when he needed to against smaller players. But he also played quite a bit out at the perimeter and utilized his crossover and 3 point shooting ability to take advantage of bigger players. When he got to the NBA, his perimeter abilities translated better because there were plenty of guys his size. Plus he could handle like nobody's business for a guy his size.

Re: 2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread
I've always been one to talk up the talent of a draft because it seems like every year the draft is called weak, but there's gonna have to be a LOT of Landry Fields coming out to make this one look respectable.
No mater. 2012 is gonna be a world stopping draft. Lots of prime talent should be coming out by then.Comment
