Re: 2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread
Guys like Nikola Mirotic, Davis Bertans, Tobias Harris, and Chandler Parsons are some other late 1st-2nd round picks that I think can be contributors to good NBA teams.
What does everyone know about Davis Bertans? He seems to be the least-talked-about Euro guy in the draft, but from what I hear, his game resembles Toni Kukoc, just obviously not as good.
Edit: Apparently the Nike Summit coach is quoted as saying Bertans has the best shot he's seen since Dirk Nowitzki too.

Re: 2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread
Edit: It sounds like an NBA team has promised Bertans they'll take him with a 1st round pick. I just read on Draftexpress that Bertans and his agent had decided they would pull out of the draft this year unless they received a promise from an NBA team, so that being said, it sounds like at least one NBA team wants him in the first round.
I think the Euro guys are the ones that will really shake up the draft because I could definitely see one team liking a Euro guy a lot and reaching on one of them causing the whole draft to not go as currently projected.Last edited by Yeah...THAT Guy; 06-23-2011, 10:33 AM.NFL: Bills

Re: 2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread
Would you go for this trade?
Reports from ESPN.com indicate that the Knicks are offering the Charlotte Bobcats the #17 pick and Toney Douglas, for our #9 and #19 picks.
Would you do this trade?
My take: It looks like the odds are good that Kemba Walker will be avalible at this point in the draft. However, Toney is exactly what we need in Charlotte. He will finally have an oppritunity to show what he can do if he comes here. He will be way more game ready then Kemba by the start of the season.
However, Kemba will bring in name recognition that we really do not have currently. That is a plus. So there are pros to both sides. What is you guys' take on this trade, assuming Kemba is avalible? The way to build a good team is not to load it with star players, but to load it with players who play well together with an identity

Re: 2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread
Going back to that Tristan Thompson to Cleveland rumor, via Chad Ford:
"The Cavs have some serious stat guys on their staff. That may explain why they are so high on Tristan Thompson, who John Hollinger has rated third in his Draft Rater.
If the Cavs take Thompson at No. 4, I'm hearing Jonas Valanciunas, who I currently have in the 4 spot in Mock Draft 7.0, probably goes No. 8 to the Pistons."
On a side note, does anyone know who the top rated guys are according to the draft rater this year?
Edit: Ford is also saying that the Thunder are gauging interest regarding Eric Maynor, and that they hope the Kings or Bobcats may bite on a deal to trade the #7 or 9 pick for Eric Maynor, which would allow OKC to take J-Val.
I'm getting all this stuff off of http://www.espn.go.com/blog/truehoop
Edit x2: This isn't a rumor but more of just something really interesting. The only player on the champion Dallas Mavs that was drafted by the team was Jason Kidd, and he obviously just got back to Dallas after playing in Phoenix and New Jersey.Last edited by Yeah...THAT Guy; 06-23-2011, 10:50 AM.NFL: Bills

Re: 2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread
I'm sorry, I just don't see Kemba falling too far. If Im' a GM, I take him early. Dude just has the "winning" game. I think that he'll have a far better career than most in this draft. I'm not sure why the hype isn't there for him, as it is with Kyrie, but whoever ends up with Kemba will have had a good draft. If I'm the Cavs, I go Williams at 1 and Kemba at 4. I know it won't happen, but in my 2k11 fantasy association, that's what is happeningTwitter - WTF_OS

Re: 2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread
I tell you someone else who is in the same situation. Nolan Smith. He lit it up for Duke this past season and I feel he is just as good as most in front of him. Anybody else feel the same? The way to build a good team is not to load it with star players, but to load it with players who play well together with an identity

I would be surprised if teams value Maynor over Kemba. But Maynor did have a few golden boy moments through the playoffs.Follow me on Twitter@DrewGarrisonSBNComment

Re: 2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread
I've liked Nolan through college, very consistent, fundamentally sound player (lol Duke anyone). I think the fact that he's 23 may turn some teams away because he did stick around in college, but I don't think that should take away from his value. I like his game, and his story, so I hope things pan out for him. And yes, he carried the hell out of Duke while Irving was out.Follow me on Twitter@DrewGarrisonSBNComment

Eh, something about Nolan Smith I just don't see working out at the NBA level. Maybe he'll prove me wrong, but I just don't see something in him the way I do in Kemba.NFL: Bills

Re: 2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread
The Cavs still want MORE lottery picks - Chris Sheridan
The Cleveland Cavaliers have the No. 1 and No. 4 picks in the draft. But will they also snag another lottery pick?
Sources say they have been very actively trying to do just that, with a massive $14.5 million trade exception as the device. The offer? Give us your pick and we'll take back a bad contract into our trade exception, which permits the Cavs to take back salary of more than $14 million.
In that scenario, the Sacramento Kings and the Detroit Pistons look like the most intriguing potential partners. Would the Kings be willing to give up the No. 7 pick if the Cavs gave them Ramon Sessions and took back Francisco Garcia? The Kings are already under the salary cap, but Garcia has $12 million over two years on his contract, and Sacramento would love to move him.
Or if it's Detroit, Cleveland could swallow an even bigger contract, such as that belonging to Richard Hamilton ($12.5 million next season) or Charlie Villanueva (3 years, $24 million remaining).
The Cavs would love to get Kyrie Irving, Tristan Thompson and Jonas Valanciunas in the lottery. Or they could also make a stab at getting Minnesota's No. 2 pick for, let's say, the No. 4 and No. 7 (or No. 8) picks.

Re: 2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread
In what area? He is athletic, and consistent. He also could dunk when attacking the rim in traffic. He was a deadly accurate shooter and the floater of his was near unstoppable. The only thing is, he is a natural 2 gaurd, so if he is drafted as a PG he will being playing an unnatural position. The way to build a good team is not to load it with star players, but to load it with players who play well together with an identity
