It worked for the NFL because they didn't wait until AFTER games were cancelled to bring him in.

If they had brought this guy in here alot sooner, they'd probably be a lot further along then where they are now.

lol...yg... thats exactly how they described his actions

PP... but as stated I guess they figured they could hash this out themselves, and this was a planned contingency thing. Of course the two leagues go about business a different way

This is actually Day 2. He met with both sides yesterday to get a feel for the issues.

There actually isnt a stack of issues. There are only 4: BRI, Luxury Tax, Bird Exception and annual raises. If both sides actually work this a deal that can be done in a day. My concern is that both sides may not be ready for a deal.

The NFL had to bring him in early because of the lawsuit and they couldnt afford to miss any games. The NBA can afford to miss 2 weeks.

I'd bet that he wasn't brought in sooner because the NBA's plan has been to get to the point where players were missing checks if they hadn't already bowed out of this thing. This thing was pretty much destined to cost us games from the start.

I thought it was yesterday that it was supposed to start... he met with both sides seperately right?

I am still concerned myself that im not sure they're ready..unless this guy has some power plays up his sleeves

                Oh I agree.

But the thing is....there really wasn't any reason for them to miss games though, especially coming off a year like last.

Re: NBA Lockout and Collective Barganing Agreement Discussion

We have had the chance to talk to a few of the athletes about the lockout recently and it seems that for the common rank and file NBA player, they just want to play.

Keep in mind that the people trying to negotiate arent always represented by those that has everyones best interests in mind.

Is it the players fault that owners sign them to over inflated contracts? The Lebrons , Kobes, etc...all bring back dollars. However, Arenas, Lewis, Oden and a multitude of others are paid way well above their market value and owners will never get their ROI on those players.

Every owner in the NBA is a billionaire outside of basketball arena. Owners take risks just like any other business. Some win and some lose. Keep in mind that there is never been an NBA team sold and lost money. If an owner wants out, they can simply sell the team and make back every dollar they put into it and still make a tidy profit from the sale as well.

There is a great disparity in the majority of contracts versus those marquee players. The marquee players are the ones getting all the attention, but the rest of the 70%+ of the league thats livelyhood revolves around getting that bi-weekly deposit just wants to play again according to our inside sources.

You are right but missing 2 weeks or a month really doesnt hurt the NBA's momentum though. Most people dont care or know there is a lockout. If they start by Dec 1, they will be just fine.

Wonder what time we'll get the "Breaking News" ticker on SportsCenter, announcing that Stern has cancelled games until new years?

I actually did, up until a few minutes ago, and just had this "feeling" of watching it on tv when that comes on. Just bracing for the worst.
