I'll be honest. I was kind of hoping that they would not reach the 10k tickets last year. Without Paul, attendance will collapse and there are plenty of cities (Seattle, KC, Vancouver) that would LOVE an NBA team...good or bad.

I hate to say this because there are some good Hornets fans on here, but the New Orleans market has already failed once before and they tried again with a team that never should have moved in the first place.
This franchise is basically the same thing as Atlanta with the NHL. It looks like a great market, but it won't work for numerous reasons.Too Old To Game Club

Re: Official POST-LOCKOUT Player Movement Thread (Trades, FAs, etc)
What I don't get is, why? Why do you have such a huge problem with what a man wants to do, and what a man has the right to do?
Just as much as Paul can say, "I wanna play with my boys", New Orleans can say, "No you'll play for them when youre contract is up." He's not forcing New Orleans to trade him.
dic·tate/ˈdiktāt/
Verb:
Lay down authoritatively; prescribe: "attempts to dictate policy"; "the right to dictate to me".
Noun:
An order or principle that must be obeyed.
Last time I checked, Paul didn't make an "authoritative" demand. He simply made a request for him to be traded.
I mean, come on: if Chris Paul was as much of a a-hole as you're making him out to be, then why didn't he leave after his rookie contract 3 years ago? When he was in his prime, and when he could have probably gotten a LOT more money than he's about to.
The dude has been there 6 years, going on 7. I think he has the right to say, "I want to play with Melo and STAT, and form possibly the best team in the East, because I actually plan on winning a championship in my life instead of sitting here getting knocked out in the first round by the Lakers and Mavs every damn year."
But he didn't even say all that. He just wants to be traded. It's his right as a player.Comment

Re: Official POST-LOCKOUT Player Movement Thread (Trades, FAs, etc)
Regardless, if he accepts a Lakers deal with one less player, it makes him look like a complete fool. If the first two deals weren't good enough for him, then what would make him accept essentially the same deal with either one less player or a weaker asset? Stern would have to be really desperate, but as the lockout proved, I doubt he gets desperate.
As for GS...yeah I agree. They had to convince Monta to work out his relationship/chemistry with Steph, and I'd still say that chemistry is shaky right now. If GS offered Steph again and had it denied, that could affect the entire team chemistry.
I also agree it would reflect poorly on Stern if he backtracked on a deal, but with the way these events have played out, it seems like most teams won't even bother (multiple quotes I read saying "Agents" and "Sources" claiming nobody want's to even attempt to negotiate with the Don himself). But after missing this robust Clippers package, there isn't a whole lot left for Stern to look at (from everything we have been told).
I don't sense Stern will get desperate, -yet-, but if the Lakers remove all of the assets from the table between themselves and Houston, where does that leave Stern to turn? Ends up with Stern missing the first package from LA/Hou, then missing the revised deal, then missing the LAC deal. Feel like options are slim if he really wants maximum "basketball" value for Chris Paul - once the other mountains start to move in what's left of the "off-season" I find it hard to believe he will still find as effective value as he could now (Stern/League).
Will be interesting to see what happens going forward.
Hopefully Hurricane Stern doesn't claim any more CP3 victims and GSW stays awayLast edited by Drewski; 12-12-2011, 08:40 PM.Follow me on Twitter@DrewGarrisonSBNComment

John Hollinger: BTW, Chauncey Billups doesn't get a cent of his $14 million if he acts on his retirement threat. Methinks he'll show up.
He's a idiot if he doesn't.Boy this habit is as bad as dope!!!

Re: Official POST-LOCKOUT Player Movement Thread (Trades, FAs, etc)
I don't think it's a weaker asset, most people felt LO in NO (and for that matter, ORL) made no sense (why would NO want LO at that age, adding salary to the team). Turned LO into free salary space and a draft pick. For what LO would be worth to NO, the asset doesn't necessarily seem weaker to me. Losing LO for nothing, if that's what the Lakers end up doing, is the only thing that makes the "Lamar Asset" swap for Draft+TPE worthless. Otherwise I think considering the circumstances in the league right now, it wasn't necessarily a terrible asset swap. Definitely a risky swap, but I can see why Mitch did it. Was a gamble but Mitch definitely plans to go all in as hard as he can to land either/both Cp3 and Dwight.

But I think at this point people are wondering what Stern's endgame is, because the Clippers deal was probably the best he'd get. Proving a point? Selling team with CP3 on it? Pushing the Hornets out of the league or to another city? There's just a lot of confusion right now regarding this.Comment

I think he ultimately wants to stay in Orlando and his behavior, comments, and actions are trying to force/push Orlando into doing something moves wise to hopefully entice him to stay and make them a contender again.EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.Comment

I'm not saying Lamar Odom was a weak asset. I was saying they'd have to replace LO in the deal with a weaker asset or two.

League already has spoken to various potential buyers. You don't think they know how team is valued w/ and w/out CP3 among those groups?

You're buying a house. Attached ocean view parcel is for sale. You want seller to do it or do you want control over price and who gets it?
Honestly, after hearing how all of the small market teams are "losing money" and going through work stoppage and the lockout, who wants to invest money into a team like NO that was apparently inoperable while it had Chris Paul. I find it hard to believe any owner thinks he could just waltz in and sell Chris Paul into staying with NO at this rate (especially after how poorly this was handled by the league).
With this huge mess, the lockout, and an uncertain economy, I don't see the Hornet's finding a buyer. All buyers will be low balling the league, and if they can't find an owner prior to the trade deadline, NO is in serious trouble.
Only endgame that adds up to me is contraction. Too many low-ball buying bids for the franchise, and losing CP for nothing. Too much for a franchise to overcome.Last edited by Drewski; 12-12-2011, 08:54 PM.Follow me on Twitter@DrewGarrisonSBNComment

To clarify, Clips drew the line at Bledsoe, as one piece too many. It wasn't that Bledsoe was deemed untouchable.
Especially now that they got Billups.
Well...Billups should be announcing his retirement any day nowso that shouldn't really matter.
