we can go on and on about this but i think the main premise here for me is this: i think you guys are severly disrespecting the player that reggie was. and on the other end of the spectrum i feel you guys are slightly overrating wades greatness.
since when was wade ever known as a lock down defender. he was a solid defender but he was also a defender that sold his team out alot because he gambled alot of defense. he definately was a better defender than reggie, but to say he was a lockdown defender is the slightly overrating that im alluding to.
and its not like the pacers tried to hide reggie defensively, he manned up and gave it whatever he had good or bad. you guys make it sound like when they faced the bulls they took reggie off of jordan. if he was so atrocious defensively why did larry brown stick him on jordan for the entire series. you dont think larry brown knew that was jordan reggie was guarding?
see what i mean by underrating and overrating...

As far as SG only, he's top 5 for sure. He's top 10 for all guards only because there have been great defensive PGs like DJ, The Glove, and Kidd.

I don't really reponsed well to that kind of talk from ShawnKemp40. All I have to say is grow up. This forum is all about respect each other opinion. And even mistakes lol. But after that post. I won't be reply to any of your post ever lol
We are talking about Shooting guards here. My post was more of a joke about how people always go back talk about the calls refs made of a player was treated even though he won or lost. Wade has won a ring carrying a team and has also won being a role player or second option. Reggie never won period.
But in regards to TajDeni post above. I agree with you whole heartedly. I know a lot of people complain about player gambling for steals. Or gambling period on defense. But I can deal with the player who makes plays on defense. I think first option type of players should be a loud to roam once in a while. Second of all, Wade not playing in your golden era should in no way have anything to do with how his career is judged..
I guess we need to take away Russell's 11 rings since the weren't against the bad boy pistons. Take away Wilts 100 point game because it wasnt against the bad boy pistons. Take away all of Kobe's achievements and rings because they were in the same era as Wade and also weren't against the bad boy pistons. Take away Tim Duncan's rings because they weren't against the bad boy Pistons????

kobe was a great defender for alot of yrs.
see heres what fans miss that coaches dont.
the title prolly now goes to lebron, but up until lebron assumed the title kobe was considered the best help defender since scottie pippen. and if you want proof, JVG quoted that on live TV in the NBA finals against the Celtics. thats why kobe started guarding rondo, to somewhat help contain him but more importantly to be a help defender.
next. if you look at the polls on nba.com b4 the start of every yr. how many yrs in a row did coaches and gms rate kobe the best on-ball defender in the league. (he held that title until lebron assumed it). why? its not because he did it all the time but because they understood that if 4 some reason he had to set his full attention to guarding you, whatever havoc you were causing the lakers was reduced severly.
again i think the name part comes in from them understanding that yes he didnt pay attention to his man alot, because he put so much into being aggresive offensively. and alot of times he would guard whichever wing player couldnt really score in the later stages of his career to conserve energy.
however, the reason why he kept making all defensive teams is that coaches and gms understand that if he turned his full attention to you defensively, its was over 4 you.
ex. lakers dont beat OKC or Boston to win the chip, without Kobe's ability to contain westbrook and rondo because fisher was getting cooked. and as you can now see when kobe no longer could contain westbrook the following yr they lost the series.
so you can say its just the name of kobe, because he didnt do it night in night out, i get that. as a laker fan kobe can be frustrating at times with his help-d, but at the same time i dont know if coaches look at it like what he does all the time or what they just simple know that he can do if focused when votiing.
that would be my guess as to why he kept making all defense teams.
back to wade and reggie, but i had to speak on that.
