Ok. Now I'm really confused. I thought the whole point of giving speights, Ellington, and a first rounder to the cavs for nothing was to keep Gay? Maybe they are going for a huge free agent hunt.

Chris Paul,David West,Josh Smith,Dwight Howard are some of the big names who are likely to be free agents. Maybe Grizzlies want to attempt to sign multiple guys?

I'm really surprised Raptors aren't giving up a pick in any year. That seems like the typical thing to do for a Toronto team that's "rebuilding"

I would think at least a lottery protected pick would be included, even if the they manage to get Prince or Maggette.

Well. This pushes Toronto into the playoff hunt now. The less minutes they have to play Landry Fields the better.

Surprised they didn't try to dump him and his contract in the trade..

With the way the Clippers look, Paul isn't going anywhere, Dwight(if he leaves) wouldn't pick Memphis over Dallas or Atlanta, signing Josh to a max would just put them in the same situation they are dealing with now and David West wouldn't fill any needs...

Ya. I just hope now the Raptors are able to trade Fields and Kleiza away.

Their 2013 roster right now:
C-JV,Johnson
PF-Bargnani,Acy
SF-Gay
SG-DeRozan,Ross
PG-Lowry,Lucas

Kleiza and Gray also with player options(which I REALLY hope they don't use) and Fields also under contract.

If Raptors could get rid of Bargnani,Kleiza,Gray and Fields, then just get a new starting PF, backup SF and 1-2 other guys, that'd be great for them.

What do people think it'd take to get Pau from Lakers for Raptors? Would a deal like Bargnani,Kleiza and/or Fields and something else do it?

The Grizzlies don't want more bad contracts (IE why they got rid of Gay).

But yeah, Toronto was only losing games by 2 points this year (They lose more close games than any team I've ever seen bar the Mavs this year). They could easily go on get above .500 before the season ends and snag that 7 or 8 spot.

It's discouraging to see non-glam teams choose to gut their core for money purposes. Clearly Gay was overpaid, but MEM did so out of fear of losing him. Now they are losing him anyways.

No they didn't. The grizzlies have new owners that don't want to go into the luxury tax (which I think they would've because of Gay's contract) by the end of the season.

That's why they traded away Speights and Ellington for peanuts.

But yeah, Toronto was only losing games by 2 points this year (They lose more close games than any team I've ever seen bar the Mavs this year). They could easily go on get above .500 before the season ends and snag that 7 or 8 spot.

In order to have realistic playoff shot, Raptors would need to go something like 25-12(that's almost .700 basketball).

Really don't see it happening, though I see a more realistic finish like 19-18.

That sounds like a straight Phoenix Suns move right there. Eventually he'll gut the team to be below mediocre.

This is the reason people are losing interest in nba basketball. Its turned into a huge 401K portfolio.

You're incorrect. They traded Speights and Ellington to get out of the Luxury tax. They could have kept the squad they had in tact for one last push for the finals before having to make a move in the offseason, and avoid the tax next year. They would have been fine for the rest of the year.

This trade is ignorant. Straight up ridiculous. They're in no position to sign any of the big names this summer, even without Gay.
