Huh? I'd like to see the posts.

I mean at one time Gay was a great player. At his peak years he was one of the best at his position.

Now I would have a hard time putting him in the top 10 of small forwards.

People were asking his worth, I'd say he deserves to get paid as your third best player. He isn't garbage or anything like that, his style of play just isn't that desirable.

I am a Memphis fan lol

15 shots a game isn't exactly a black hole. And he's not really a Melo-type who just goes iso every time he gets the ball.

You asked for them and I found them, don't ask me how I remember this stuff (really though I remembered it was before a Pacers/Grizzlies game and I remember that game last year was on MLK day).

He may be having a better season than Gay but I'm going to hold off on saying George is already a better player.
        Here's the thread... http://www.operationsports.com/forum...sscussion.html

Discussion was in the 1st and 2nd pages.

As I said I don't fault you for saying it at the time. Just funny to think about it now considering what you're saying about Gay now. lol

As far as Rudy, I think he can be successful in the right situation, but I don't think he'll ever be any different than what he is now unless he's in that situation(not being the 1st option).

          Re: 2013-14 Transactions Thread

At the time of the thread (January?) I didn't think it was fair to say George was without a doubt better than Gay. I don't think I said anything that outrageous, after all Gay was still teetering on "is he just not recovered from his injury" or "is he done being a star player". Plus like I said in the posts, his name was constantly in trade rumors which no doubt affected him mentally.

The hype for George turned out to be warranted. George had a tremendous finish to the season after that thread was made and Gay went in pretty much the opposite direction after the thread.

When the trade for Gay happened to Toronto I was one of the folks saying it wouldn't be so bad for Memphis. While most people were being hyper critical of the Grizzlies for being cheap.

Nah it wasn't outrageous at all. Not trying to call you out or anything like that here. I actually agreed with you. It was too early to say that as I said a few posts down in that thread.

Looks like OKC is considering trading Jeremy Lamb...isn't he the last hold over from the Harden deal?

I feel you Z. You got a damn memory on you though

I think it says more about George than Gay to be honest. George exploded and is no doubt an MVP candidate this season. That's another discussion though.

As far as Gay goes, I do believe he can be fine as a third option, just depends if you're willing to pay him 20 million over the next few years. He could also be used as a big expiring contract next season.

Unless they get a solid veteran I don't know why they would do that. Adams and Lamb seem to be potential solid role players at least.

D.J. Augustin is waived by the Raptors, according to multiple sources.

Also, the Kings and Raptors are highly unlikely to be done trading with one another. Jimmer Fredette seems to be on Toronto's radar.

Strange to hear that, cause Jimmer was in rumor for Gray, but Kings already got Gray, so wonder what else will happen...

Steven Adams came from that deal as well.

Don't know why theyd trade him.

If Rudy Gay is your second option, then you're not going to be a very good team.

He's not a black hole, but he is too inefficient to be anything but an off the ball slasher/transition threat.

The Kings wanting to play him at the 4 is incredibly puzzling. I'm not sure if their goal is just to play no defense at all or what, but any advantage that Gay has as a perimeter defender will be neutralized putting him in the post where he will outmatched 9.8 times out of 10.

The problem is, one, is that what he is being paid, basically warrants teams to use him as a first or second option. Hard to justify taking on that cap hit, to use the guy as a 3rd or 4th option on a championship contender. Not going to happen. The other issue is, the things that Rudy Gay can do well, require the ball to be in his hand in some capacity, and as a team, you don't want to get in the habit of putting Rudy Gay in iso situations.

I think that after this year, you will see Rudy's value increase. If someone could get him for the MLE, and as someone said, treat him as Iguodala-lite, coming off screens, slashing to the rim and getting out in transition, I think he could be a key piece on a team that is actually contending. Hell, if you could get him to buy into a bench role, that would be even better. Will that happen? Probably not, because teams like the Kings still exist and will probably overpay for his services.

Why would the Thunder want trade Lamb? Unless they are getting James Harden back.... Right? lol

I just feel bad for Derrick Williams actually looked really good in the last few games.

If it was me, I'd have this lineup:

                              PG Isaiah Thomas
                              SG Ben McLemore
                              SF Rudy Gay
                              PF Derrick Williams
                              C DeMarcus Cousins

Whatever Derrick doesn't do at the 4, Gay can make up for at the 3.

Off the bench, they can finally bring in Ray McCallum, who looked good during the summer, and deserves a chance to prove his worth.

Anymore trades would involve Jason Thompson, Jimmer Fredette and/or Marcus Thornton.

The Raptors looking at Fredette seems to be another plan in Ujiri's wizardry. Fredette coming off the bench could really flourish in a floor that's spread with Novak and others on the team.

Ujiri is a really interesting man. Can't wait to see what he pulls next!
