      Re: 2021 Offseason Thread

Lillard posted on his IG "Back for more...Ripcity is my city" I think fhaf pretty much reaffirms the thought he wasn't going to request a trade this year.

Which also reaffirms that the best deal for Sixers is a complementary package. Which I don't mind. One of ideal packages I would want is a Haliburtonm and Hield. But, I don't see Kings giving up him of Fox. But that would be an ideal package for Sixers. You'll be adding in two volume 40% 3pt shooters, Haliburton has a lot of upside, Hield could benefit from having a good post player like Embiid who demands doubles. But again, don't see them giving up either Haliburton or Fox. I do feel like Kings are the most likely right now. No one on Cavs scream win now. Minnesota is in the same boat.

If the kings decide to trade Hield on his own once the season starts then I think he would fetch a pretty good return on his own. His contract has 2 more years on it and it declines in value each year. Sacramento probably doesn't need him and a lot of teams would want him.

Barnes is the player that makes sense for Philly since he is a vet. They just may have to move off Tobas if they bring him in. If they are out of the playoff race I would think they would be able to move off him as well.

I like Hield. Even on a "not great for team" contract, I like his value. He shoots a great clip at a high volume from 3pt.

Barnes is someone I feel you have to ask does he benefit more from a less pressured situation in Sacramento. I don't see them out of the playoff race at all. I think their range is 3-7(barring injuries). I'm all for moving Tobias though. I like Tobias and he did take a good step, but this is his peak. Plus I'm all for cap flexibility going forward. I'd do a Tobias for Hield and Bagley though. Moving off Ben and Tobias opens up a lot of future cap

Trying to be “win now” and play the “cap flexibility” card is tough to do because one of them is going to give and if you’re trying to do both, you might as well be spinning your wheels in mud.

And at this point, there isn’t a move that Philly could make with Simmons that’ll make the gap between them and Milwaukee/Brooklyn smaller(assuming both teams are healthy as a whole).

Gotta pick one or the other.

              I definitely get that.

"Win now" is self explanatory for them. Cap Flexibility by getting off the Simmons and Tobias contract is them almost retooling on the fly and knocks them down even further in the standings. Joel is "young enough" to go the Cap Flexibility route. But with his injury history and his position, I don't think that is the route to take honestly. Barring injuries, I think he has 3-4 dominant years (if he continues to get into better shape). I see him falling off once he gets into early 30s and the final couple years of contract looking really bad, so have to go all in.

Like you said, there isnt move that they can make that can bridge the gap. Lillard, Beal, and Lavine are off the market for the year. I see Beal as the most likely to be at his team long term. I can see Lillard asking a trade for a trade next offseason because I see their ceiling at the 6th seed again and Philly can't wait for him. Best they could do is get a complementary package that fits around Tobias and Joel and hope for injuries in the playoffs.

I still prefer a Haliburton and Hield package, but unlikely. CJ isn't a bad "best you can get" deal. I think he can play alongside Maxey. You're betting on Maxey to develop as a playmaker, Shot Creator, and defender. You move Curry to 6th man. They would need a vetetan backup PG. But I dont think that elevates them past 3. It feels like Kings or Portland is the best deal/assets they can do.

You take the best deal you can get and hope Doc can work his gets his team to “overachieve”, like he’s done with his other teams in the past. Which he’s very good at doing, especially the ones that aren’t as talented as folks think(see 2018-19 Clippers team as one example)

Plus he does have a good coaching staff and with a "normal " schedule, so there should be more practice days.

I do think it is in the "take the best deal" situation. Even if Simmons was willing to start the season with the Sixers, nothing he can really do to boost his trade value unless he comes out averaging 20-8-8 on 38% 3pt on 3 3PA lol. Thats not how the offense rolls anyway to allow that. I rather make the deal now and allow them to gain the chemistry from the jump.

Man I thought he was really solid last year. Surprised he’s having to sign a non guaranteed deal this late in the off-season.

It's absolutely over for him in the NBA. 36 for a non-athletic center is old and it was on full display last season.
