    Re: 2021 Offseason Thread

Is it a Russ thing that makes people feel that way? Because as a whole this team should be a better shooting team than either of their past two teams shouldn’t they? I know KCP was great in the bubble but he’s very prone to hot and cold runs. He was so bad in this years playoffs he literally just stopped shooting. All of AB, Schroder, Danny, Wes were just serviceable, Caruso was really the only guy making strides to be a good shooter but his slow release limited him to only shooting when he was wide open. His 2 attempts a night didn’t really swing their shooting one way or the other enough to matter.

I feel like where the Lakers got worse is defensive versatility out on the wings. I don’t know if they are hoping Ariza is still a plus level defender, I know he started for Miami and Portland, but they need more length and versatility on that end of the floor. Bazemore and THT both have ridiculous wingspans and are solid defenders but they are still missing just general size. Might be able to move Gasol with cash/pick and get something of value, but James Ennis and Stanley Johnson are both still FA as well. Two more guys with massive wingspans themselves. Johnson is a top tier defender, but among the worst offensive players in the whole league.

Part of me wonders that if the Lakers knew they would have a shot at Rondo if they wouldn’t have used that tax MLE on somebody other than Nunn. Torrey Craig, Harkless, Jeff Green for example. Even PJ Tucker only signed for a bit more.

Too much significance/importance is being put on the Lakers and their 3pt shooting and it shouldn’t be happening.

maybe but i also think toooooo much importance is being put on them winning the bubble title without it so they don't need it as well. It's a bit of both tbh.

They do have 3 point shooters though. LeBron, Ellington, Bazemore, Ariza, Melo, Nunn, Monk, Rondo all can’t be left open…hell even AD should return to form since he had an offseason unlike last year.

Yup, the bubble was weird and led to some anomalies. Murray and Mitchell both hitting 50 in the same game, Mitchell hitting 50 twice in one series, Jimmy Butler and Tyler Herro being the best duo in the East, Denver completing two straight 3-1 comebacks, etc.

also led to AD's best shooting he's ever posted(playoffs) and by a considerable amount too. that whole thing was mad weird.

they do. but how many of those guys are playable in the playoffs will be my question for me, i'm sure it'll be good enough for the Regular season. I'm not really worried about that.

The Lakers have 6 of the top 12 oldest players in the league btw. Maybe they'll stay healthy with the new emphasis on fewer back to backs and all that in the scheduling, but we'll see

Bulls were old too when they were winning that second 3 peat. Only reason people are talking’s about the Lakers age is because they need something to talk about. You got people calling them a super team and a retirement home at the same time, lol.

Meh, If the Lakers uncharacteristically shot the lights out in Orlando, Maybe you can point to some bubble weirdness, but they won by playing inside, rebounding, and defense...which was their model the entire year...and what they seem to be trying to get back to. That bubble air ain't that good.

Remains to be seen if they can even duplicate paying that way though.

Because stuff like this doesn’t happen every post season. Giannis in the finals, Ayton looking like peak Admiral, Cam Payne, Reggie Jackson, Trae Young and Kevin Huerter being the best guard duo in the East, Luka going for 36 a night, etc.

So is having an old team good now, still detriment or depends on the roster?

Damn, just saw how the Clippers schedule is lined up for this year. Tough. Most 5 in 7's in the league or something like that.

PG could be in the MVP convo if he keeps this team afloat.
