Only option is to max and keep or do a sign and trade.
Looking back on all the teams that were interested like Minny, Sac, Dallas, Boston, not sure if I'm forgetting any or not, none of them really have great offers. Atlanta would not trade him for KP, they wouldn't trade him for anything but Towns which Minnesota wouldn't do.. Celtics won't trade Brown or Tatum, and Smart would be the only semi-desirable player from them but there is no trade to be made salary wise there..
Sacramento has the most realistic shot. Something like Barnes and Bagley wouldn't be awful but is largely dependent on how much they value Gallo as that trade only make sense if they see Barnes as a big upgrade at that spot. I don't but apparently teams do with the money he gets offered. So idk.
I know Bagley has yet to do anything at all but I'm still high on his upside. I think he could be the younger, cheaper type they could just slot into Collins role and move forward without worrying about having a max you didn't want to pay.
Could maybe add Hield to the deal if they sent out Gallo.. but even then do the Hawks need another rotation wing with Bogdan, Huerter, Reddish, Hunter on the roster already?
It's just a tough spot. Anything short of a superstar SF doesn't really make sense for them. Like a trade for Zion sure, but Pelicans aren't doing that. Huerter could easily slide to 6th/7th man territory if the SF was upgraded. But they already have Hunter and Reddish too.
Would the Celtics trade off Brown for a Collins + Reddish package, idk, would Denver trade something like Gordon + MPJ + Barton in a trade? I doubt it. Something like Ingram and Lonzo? I mean there just isn't a trade out there that makes much sense.
Only other trade I could think of would be if LaVine said he was tired of playing for the Bulls because they suck. S&T to send Collins and Bogdonvic to the Bulls for Zach, Thad, Markkanen.. That's probably the best case scenario for Atlanta. Thad can be that 12 and 8 guy without ever wanting or expecting to be more, Markkanen gives them a big who can stretch and youth to build on down the line, Zach an upgrade over Bogdan. But a trade like that likely takes multiple first round picks from the Hawks to pull off, and Zach requesting to be moved.
Difficult part is Collins is a 20+ 10+ player on a lot of teams, but any team built for deep playoff runs he is probably topping out around this 13ish and 8ish he's giving now. And the choice to max that is difficult when they are about to need money for Trae, Cam, Hunter, Huerter, and probably shouldn't move Capela unless they want their defense to fall apart.
