You make good points P2K. It's just so hard to get a franchise player. Lots are paid like one, but there are very few. Even if you end up with the #1 pick, you aren't guaranteed that the Duncan, Kobe, and LBJ player is there.

I don't think the top East teams are in as good of a position as most think. It all starts with Cleveland as they have a guy who can almost do it by himself, although the rest of the team is average at best even with an old Shaq. Boston is getting up there, Orlando is not much better with Carter as he does not fit that Van Gundy offense at all. There is a chance to be back up there in a couple of years if everything goes right, but a big if to be sure.

Signing Boozer wouldn't have gotten them closer, either. Neither Boozer nor Villanueva are any good defensively, and they weren't going to give all that cash to somebody who missed 45 games and had his heart called into question while he was "hurt".

They're not spectacular signings, but let's be honest, what moves could've been made that would've "moved this team closer to the title"? There's nothing that could've been done that would've caught them up to Boston, Cleveland or Orlando. I'm not a fan of paying somebody 11 million dollars to come off the bench either. I'd rather they trade Hamilton. But it is what it is. Dumars dug this hole with some horrifying coaching moves, not trading Rasheediot last year at this time, and timing the Chauncey trade very poorly. All he can do now is try to dig out of it, and it's way too early to say if the signings from today are going to help or not. I have a feeling the transactions aren't done, so let's wait and see.
      Good post, Psy.

I'll say it again, Ben Gordon, CV, Boozer...I don't think of "Going to work" when I think of those guys....

Dumars, for the worse, has completely changed what this Detroit team has stood for from the 80's and early 90's and 2001 to 2006.

The recent rules that's been implemented have changed the NBA drastically. The league has become almost totally offensive-oriented league now, and the championship-contending squads only have to play "just good enough" defense to get stops at critical points of a basketball game in order to win consistently. Playing total lock-down defense like those early 2000s Pistons squads isn't possible anymore.

Looks like Avery Johnson is out of the running as head coach now.

Source: Pistons no longer considering Johnson

I'm not sure where the Pistons head from here as far as who to hire. The article mentiones John Kuester and Tom Thibodeau, and The Detroit News beat writer Chris McCosky brought up Dave Cowens. I imagine Terry Porter will probably get consideration as well.

Change is good, we'll see if it works. Feel much better about a coach with some experience, even if it is as an assistant. The Curry hire was an absolute f'n joke of a move, so it is nice to move away from that. Still need a post presence though.

Well fellas, the preseason is finally here. It'll be interesting to see what type of rotation coach Kuester will use in the first game against the Heat Monday night. There are so many question marks in this roster that will need to be answered before the start of the regular season.

Anyway, on an unrelated note, I would've liked to be a spectator at this tryout. Oh yeah.

The regular season is finally here as the Pistons kick it off against the Grizzlies in Memphis tomorrow night.

To this day there has still been no word on who will start on the frontline. Most guess that it'll be Ben Wallace and Kwame Brown, which I don't have much of a problem with after seeing how well the team played overall whenever this combo started during the preseason. However, I would personally rather see Big Ben starting with Chris Wilcox as I think this combo would bring better offense-defense balance to the starting unit. Plus I think Kwame would be better served coming off the bench to pair with Charlie Villanueva.

Coach John Kuester announced the starting lineup today:

                          PG - Rodney Stuckey
                          SG - Richard Hamilton
                          SF - Tayshaun Prince
                          PF - Charlie Villanueva
                          C - Ben Wallace

So this means Kwame Brown and Chris Wilcox will likely be the bigs who enter in the game together off the bench. It'll be interesting to see how these lineup combinations work out early in the regular season.

                            Who would you start Kruza?

                            Ben
                            Chris
                            Kwame

I would definitely bring Chris off the bench since he is the most offensively capable of the 3. Kwame being the best psot defender and I don't know where Ben is right now

Starting Ben and Charlie V together or Ben and Wilcox together would've been fine with me. Coach Kuester said that he wants to start Ben so to establish a defensive presence early in the game. And although Ben and Kwame worked well in the preseason together, I don't like them playing together in the regular season unless the Pistons have to match up against teams with big centers like Cleveland and Orlando. They may even play together for a stretch tonight in Memphis if the Grizzlies play both Marc Gasol and Hasheem Thabeet together.
